Reed’s eyes found me instantly as he entered the house. I could already feel the possessiveness leaking through the mate bond. I had to be extra careful around him now. He could know what I think in my head.
“I guess this is my call to leave.” Diana interrupted our eye battle. I didn’t notice we were eye-fucking each other.
He walked towards me slowly. His eyes were captivating and rich with an unknown emotion. He stood opposite to me so that we were touching toe to toe.
He lifted his right hand and put a loose strand of hair behind my ear. He traced my cheeks with the tip of his fingers, sending strange sensations all through my body. His finger lingered for a second longer before he retracted his hand back to his pocket.
“Did you consider what I asked you about this morning?” he asked with so much hope, and for a second, I regretted not thinking about it. Did he miss me?
“It is the afternoon. I will think about it,” I said, lifting my eyebrows trying to intimidate him. Somehow, I felt more carefree with him now, maybe it was the mate bond, but now I can’t think of separating myself from him.
He tried to show he was hurt, but the amusing smile climbing on his face soon failed him. I liked playful Reed. He was more carefree and funnier.
“How can I make it up to convince you?” he asked, coming closer, closing the distance between us dangerously slow. How can someone say something like this and it still be legal?
My heart thundered for like the millionth time in the last minute. It couldn’t get more blows like that, or it would explode. I gulped audibly and bit my lower lip.
Reed growled at my reaction, and he pinned me against the table by placing both his arms on either side.
His eyes darkened with lust, and I was sure my eyes were mirroring his.
“Will you go out with me tonight?” he asked. “Tonight.”
I shook my head, my eyes challenging him. I was doing this deliberately and was loving it. I wanted a reaction out of him. I wanted to see what he would do.
“Don’t bite your lip,” he gritted out, and his eyes darkened more. It gave me some kind of sadistic joy to know that I have this kind of effect on him.
“So, you are telling me if I do this.” He leaned in and brushed his lips against mine. “You still won’t come with me?”
I gasped, and my heart started thudding fast when I felt his lips brushing mine. Even though he barely applied any pressure and his lips just touched mine, I could feel millions of butterflies flapping their wings angrily in my stomach.
My whole body reacted to my mate on her own, as if she had a better excess to my soul than me. My eyes closed on their own, and I leaned into his touch. I felt his smirk, and I felt his hand on my cheek, angling my face. He brought his lips near my ear.
“You still don’t wanna come with me, kitten?” he whispered huskily, and my body burned with desire. He pulled away when the temperature was getting higher.
Such a tease he was. I pouted and huffed angrily. He chuckled.
“Be ready by 8,” he said, the words filled with an unspoken promise. He looked directly into my eyes, and my cheeks burned by the intense look he was giving me.
“W-what are you looking at?” I asked and found my breath short and husky.
“You,” he said, and for the second time, my heart stopped beating. I was sure now. He had my heart under his palm.
“You are so…” He traced my lower lip with his index finger, releasing it. I didn’t know when I had started biting it again.
“So adorable,” he said finally, and I felt my chest fill with so many emotions, and none of them belonged to me. They were coming from him. I tried my best not to melt in front of him.
I bit my lip and fidgeted with my now neatly manicured fingernails as I waited, sitting on my bed.
“Diana, don’t you think I should go downstairs now?” I asked her.
She shook her head, “No, we are not done,” she said, picking up the blush and applying it to my face. I sighed. Struggles of going out on a date with the person who lives under the same roof as you.
“I think you looked perfect,” Diana chirruped and clapped her hands together; she has more excited than me since I told her Reed asked me out.
I looked at my reflection, and wow. It was the only thing my lips could make. I was looking like some princess from Disneyland. Diana sure knows how to make someone pretty. I doubted if she didn’t use her magic on the mirror.
“Don’t you think it is too extra?” I asked, standing and turning sideways, checking my dress. Diana lent me her dress; I don’t know where she popped it out of, but it perfectly fit me.
It was a blood-red dress with gold embroidery at the neck. I loved it at first sight.
“Emmy, you are perfect, trust me.” Diana smiled and winked at me before checking her phone.
“What are you doing?” I asked in general. She looked at me through her lashes before going back to her phone. Her cheeks turned a light pink, and my eyes widened.
I grinned and wiggled my eyelashes at her. “We will talk about it later, Diana,” I said.
“I am not telling you anything,” she said in her cute voice, and I laughed.
“We have to talk about something important, Emmy,” she said in a serious tone, and my face fell. She must have seen my reaction because she smiled lightly and shook her head. “We will talk after you return today.” Her phone vibrated again.
I nodded and walked up to her side of the bed to take her phone, coaxing her into telling me, but at the same time, a knock was heard on the other side of the door, and we both looked at each other.
“Shit.”
