Irene's P.O.V
I almost jumped out of the bed in fright when I heard the loud bang on the door. My eyes twitched as I rubbed my hands through my eyes while trying to process where I was at the moment. The loud bang on the door didn't stop and it sounded more like something was being used to hit the door. I shook my head, swiveling my gaze around the room as I sat upright on the bed.
Different thoughts raced through my mind as I wondered who could be in the room at the moment. I stood to my feet, ran my hands through my hair until my eyes landed on the wall-clock.
"Shit!" I cussed as my eyes almost popped out of my socket. I averted my gaze from the wall-clock back to the alarm that I had set after I saw Xavier off to his room at midnight.
"Irene, are you deaf? Don't you know that it's time to go now? How many times do you want me to knock and remind you about the trip? What in the world is even wrong with you" I heard Damian scream from the outside and it sounded more like he had resorted to banging his fists on the table.
I ran my hands through my hair with frustration evident on my face as I took a look at my reflection in the mirror. The only thing that came to my mind was how pathetic I looked and me waking up late wouldn't have happened in the first place if I didn't go into the kitchen just because I wanted to quench my thirst.
"Don't you fucking know that it is almost 10:30 and the flight is in the next thirty minutes? If you don't open the damn door now, I am going to break down the door" Damian yelled ferociously as he banged his fist on the door till the extent that it felt like the door was about to break down at that point.
"Could it be that she has run away like always?" I heard Damian say from the outside as he paused, banging his fist on the door for a second.
My heart almost jumped out of my chest because I didn't want anything that would make Xavier suspect me because him suspecting me would prove to be a very big hindrance to my plans.
I was about to scream and tell him that I was inside and I was just waking up when I heard Xavier's voice that emanated from the outside. Everything stood still for a second as I clutched the side of my clothes with my heart beating with trepidation.
I swallowed the heavy lump that formed in my throat because of the sudden silence that enveloped the whole place.
"What's going on here at the moment? Why are you constituting a nuisance by disturbing the whole house!" Xavier yelled and even though I couldn't see the look on his face at the moment, the anger evident in his voice was so terrifying that it sent chills down my spine.
I began to gnaw on fingers and my only fear was that blood wouldn't draw out if it because I didn't want to give Xavier any heads up about my nervousness. If I showed any sign of nervousness,it wouldn't take long before Xavier notices what I am up to.
"Alpha Xavier, I am sorry for causing such noise early in the morning but as you instructed earlier, you told me to make sure that Irene is ready before 10. When it was 9am, I came right here and called for but she didn't answer and when I tried to open the door, I found out that the door was locked so I thought that maybe she had gotten up early to start her chores,"
"However, when I asked the maids about her whereabouts, they claimed that they haven't seen her this morning and I thought that she must still be fast asleep so I allowed her rest for a couple of minutes until I came back here and noticed that she wasn't outside her room yet, neither has she answering my call for her" Damian said in a frustrated kind of way that made my heart move with pity for him.
After Damian was done talking, everything went still for a while until I heard a soft tap on the door. A smile formed on my face and my heart leapt for joy because I knew damn well that it was no one other than Xavier.
I hit myself on the cheek, snapping back to my senses as I pursed my lips.
"Irene, are you in there?" Xavier called and I didn't even know why I was reacting in a funny way just because he called my name in a sweet manner as I felt myself melting away.
I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to snap back to my senses as I mustered all the courage in me and gathered the strength left in me.
"Y-Yes, I am here" I stuttered, sauntering to the door as I unbolted it.
I bit the corner of my lips as I placed my hands on the door knob, twisting it as the door swung open. I lowered my head, forcing out a smile even though I knew that I shouldn't be smiling at the moment.
I might not be that scared of Damian but I didn't have the temerity to look at his face because I was damn sure that he was cursing me inside of him.
I didn't have the courage to glance at Xavier as well because Xavier could look like he was calm at the moment and one doesn't know what he might do the next minute. He was unpredictable and the last thing I wanted was to become a victim of his anger.
"I am sorry for not answering, the way the door was being banged scared me a lot and because I slept late at night,I woke up late. I am sorry Alpha Xavier and Damian."
