Chapter 59 My Husband Has No Restraint
Chapter 59 My Husband Has No Restraint
“How much is your salary?” Liora asked Mr. Lawrence.
She looked at him with genuine curiosity, her brows drawing together slightly as she considered everything he did for Dominic.
“You’re my husband’s butler, aide, and even his chauffeur. You handle so many things for him.”
Mr. Lawrence, who had been standing respectfully nearby, immediately became flustered by the unexpected question.
He hesitated for a moment before answering, “…Two hundred thousand dollars a year, Young Mistress.”
The answer came smoothly enough, but there was one small problem, it was a lie.
Two hundred thousand dollars was only a fraction of what Mr. Lawrence actually had and his real financial situation was something Liora knew nothing about, and he had no intention of correcting her assumption.
Liora, however, believed him without suspicion.
“Thank you for helping to look after my husband,” she said sincerely. “I really don’t know what I’d do without you.”
There was genuine gratitude in her voice and since marrying Dominic, Liora had gradually come to realize just how much Mr. Lawrence did for him.
He wasn't merely a butler who opened doors and handled household matters. He was Dominic’s aide, chauffeur, and the person who took care of countless small details surrounding his daily life.
Nowadays, even a housekeeper could earn around thirty to fifty thousand dollars a month depending on their responsibilities but Mr. Lawrence supposedly earned only ten thousand doly a month while juggling several responsibilities at once.
The more Liora thought about it, the more unfair she felt it was. Mr. Lawrence lowered his gaze respectfully.
“I’m merely doing my duty, Young Mistress.”
That was all he said and Liora gave him a small smile before turning her attention elsewhere, still thinking about the matter.
That night, the bedroom was quiet and warm.
Liora sat beside Dominic with a notebook resting on her lap. The pages were filled with neat handwriting and rows of carefully calculated figures. She had spent quite some time working everything out, food, household expenses, daily necessities and the things they might need to spend money on regularly.
She had calculated everything as carefully as she could, determined to make sure nothing was overlooked.
Finally, she turned the notebook toward Dominic. “These are the daily expenses I calculated,” she said. “Am I missing anything?”
Dominic lowered his gaze to the notebook, he hadn't expected her to still be dwelling on the matter.
Earlier, he had thought her concern about their finances was nothing more than a passing thought. Apparently, he had underestimated just how seriously she took it.
She had actually sat down and calculated everything even the approximate cost of their meals.
Dominic couldn't help but feel a strange mixture of amusement and helplessness. Did they really have to live hand to mouth?
The thought almost made him laugh.
To him, the figures in the notebook were hardly worth worrying about. Money had never been something he needed to calculate down to the last dollar but Liora was different.
She took every expense seriously and wanted to make sure they could manage everything properly, especially now that she believed they had to depend only on themselves.
There was something almost adorable about how seriously she approached it.
Dominic looked at her for a moment before saying, “Let’s not think about this now, Liora. We have to sleep.”
Liora shook her head. “You go to bed first, dear. I want to make sure the amount is correct.”
She lowered her head again, her eyes moving across the figures. She was so focused that she didn't notice the subtle change in Dominic's expression.
The notebook was suddenly snatched from her hands. “Ah!”
Before she could react, Dominic tossed it aside and Liora stared at him in surprise.
Her husband then reached for her and pulled her toward him. “You’d rather spend time gazing at those sums than me?”
There was a faint edge of displeasure in his voice, but the possessiveness behind it was unmistakable and Liora blinked at him.
“Haven’t I done that enough already?”
Dominic's arm tightened around her waist and her teasing only made things worse, having her this close was almost torture.
She was right there in his arms, close enough for him to feel her warmth, yet there were still so many things he couldn't openly indulge in.
His restraint had already been stretched thin and he lowered his eyes toward her, his expression growing darker. “Looking isn’t enough,” he said roughly.
His voice dropped. “Far from it.”
Liora's smile slowly faded as she realized he wasn't joking end his embrace had suddenly become firmer, his arm holding her securely around the waist until she felt as though she were caught inside a steel cage not that she truly wanted to escape. She looked up at him.
“What do you want, then?”
Dominic didn't answer immediately.
Instead, he reached for the covers and pulled them over both of them and the sudden movement made Liora's heart flutter.
Dominic leaned closer. “The doctor said I’ll recover faster if I’m in a good mood,” he whispered.
His lips grazed lightly against her ear and a shiver ran through her body.
The sensation quickly spread through her until a slow warmth began to bloom inside her. “You want that for me, don’t you, Liora?”
His voice was low, coaxing and Liora stared at him, perplexed.
She searched his face for some sign that he was joking but there was none. “Be a good girl,” he murmured.
His words made her heart beat faster. “And I’ll tell you what’s the best way to please a man.”
Liora's eyes widened slightly. “The best…?”
Her question trailed off into a soft sound when Dominic claimed her lips and he kissed her.
Each kiss leaving her with less room to think about the notebook, whatever plans she had for finishing those figures were completely forgotten.
By the time sleep finally began to pull her under, Liora's mind held only one clear thought, her husband really has no restraint.
