Chapter 42
Lila had to start with the first step, getting her teaching certificate.
The road ahead would be difficult and long. She needed to take it slow.
When Lila went downstairs to pick up her package, she opened it right there at the front desk. After tossing the packaging, she held a few books and got ready to head back upstairs.
Just then, her phone rang.
Lila held the books with her left hand and pulled out her phone with her right.
Seeing the caller ID showed "Boss," she quickly answered. She had changed this contact name after Ethan hung up on Alexander twice in a row last time.
The moment she put the phone to her ear, Alexander's angry voice came through. "Taking forever to get upstairs - where did you run off to?"
"I'm on the first floor, picking up a package. Boss, did you need something?"
"Would I be looking for you?" Alexander let out a cold laugh.
All that was left in her ear was the sound of the call being disconnected.
Lila felt confused and annoyed.
He called just to say that?
What's his problem?
Despite her complaints, Lila quickly put away her phone and jogged to the elevator, afraid that if she delayed any longer, Alexander would tear her apart.
Once upstairs, Lila rushed straight into Alexander's office.
She hurried to Alexander's desk. "Boss, I'm here."
He responded with a dignified sound and lifted his chin toward a certain spot. "That'll be your spot from now on. During work hours, you're not allowed to leave that area without my permission."
Lila looked in the direction he indicated.
The place where she'd been made to stand yesterday had now been turned into a work area, and that lounge seemed pretty spacious.
Her eyes flickered slightly. Was Alexander really this efficient?
"Didn't you hear me?" Not getting a response, Alexander urged impatiently.
Only then did Lila snap back. "If I can't leave, what do I do when I need water?"
"There's a water dispenser in there."
Lila blurted out, "That's great?"
Alexander glared at her with disgust. "For Grandma's sake, I'm giving you one lucky break."
Her expression changed slightly. Why did this suddenly feel so gross?
Still, Lila nodded. "Got it, thanks Boss. But if I can't leave that area, what about using the bathroom?"
Alexander's face grew increasingly impatient, but he still answered: "My lounge has a restroom."
She asked hesitantly, "Isn't that inappropriate?"
Alexander raised an eyebrow. "You have a problem with it?"
"I wouldn't dare. It's just that I know you're a germaphobe, Boss. I'm worried you'd find me disgusting."
"At least you know yourself. For Grandma's sake, that's your second lucky break today."
Lila felt somewhat helpless.
Was this fun for him?
Why talk like that?
Both the driver's lounge and his private lounge - she could only use them with his permission. If this really counted as lucky breaks, then he was the one giving her this luck, which would make him the... source of it all, wouldn't it?
Thinking this, Lila couldn't control the smile that crept onto her face.
"Stop standing there annoying me. Get lost now." Alexander spoke in his usual tone.
"Got it." After responding, Lila turned around.
But Alexander noticed she was holding something. "Wait."
Lila turned her head: "What?"
"What are you holding?"
"This?"
She pointed to the books in her arms and explained, "These are books I bought for the teaching certificate exam. I want to study them when I have time."
Alexander raised an eyebrow slightly. "You want to be a teacher?"
