Chapter 20
Lila mumbled quietly, "Kind of."
"What? Speak up!"
"Nothing."
Alexander glared at her, then leaned back in his office chair, raising his slender fingers to pinch the bridge of his nose repeatedly.
You could tell he was pretty annoyed.
Lila stood there, not knowing whether to stay or leave. Finally, she had no choice but to bite the bullet and ask him, "What about Grandma wanting me to stay here?"
Alexander asked flatly, "What else can you do besides stay?"
Lila looked at the man uncertainly, "Riding to work in the car I drive—can you handle that?"
Alexander's hand suddenly froze, almost poking himself in the eye. When his blue eyes opened, his whole face showed anger, "First ask yourself if your driving skills can handle it."
"I can't, so that's why..."
"If you can't, won't you practice?"
Lila replied, "I will, but who's going to help me practice?"
"That's your problem." After tossing out that line, Alexander started working as if she wasn't there. Catching a glimpse of Lila still standing in place, he said coolly, "You can go now. Come pick me up at five o'clock."
After Alexander spoke, she didn't even look back and turned to leave.
Alexander watched the girl's fleeing figure, frowning slightly.
She really was a wild girl, with no manners at all!
After leaving the Sinclair Group, Lila walked along the nearby streets for a bit, thinking about who could teach her to drive. Halfway through, she saw a dessert shop on the street and went in to buy an ice cream.
Ice cream in hand, she found a seat in the shop and called Elara.
"Lila, what's up?"
"Gaia insists I be Alexander's driver. Alexander told me to find someone to practice driving with myself. Where am I supposed to find someone?"
Elara said thoughtfully, "For practicing driving... I ran into Ethan Caldwell at an interview the other day. He was driving and backed into a parking spot in one go. His skills should be pretty good. How about asking him? He even asked about you that day, wondering why you weren't job hunting with me."
Ethan was a classmate from their year. Since they were always in the same group for discussions, they had a decent relationship.
Even so, Lila still felt a bit hesitant about the male-female thing, "But he's a guy, isn't that inconvenient?"
"What's inconvenient about it? It's just practicing driving, not practicing kissing—why would gender matter? Ethan's a good guy, and we know him well. He'll definitely teach you seriously. That's better than going to a driving school where the instructor lets you drive randomly while he plays on his phone, right?"
"Should I pay him? How much would be appropriate?"
Elara laughed, "Paying him money would be insulting. How long will you practice? Two weeks at most. Just treat him to a meal afterward and give him some kind of thank-you gift."
Lila thought that made sense, "Okay, I'll do what you said. I'll call him now and ask if he has time."
The Sinclair Group.
After Lila left, Alexander held a meeting.
As soon as the meeting ended, Charlie handed over his phone, "Mr. Sinclair, the second young miss called you earlier."
Alexander took the phone and called back.
As soon as the call connected, Isadora asked, "Why didn't you answer when I called earlier?"
"Meeting."
"Grandma went to the company. She said she wanted to see if you'd fired my sister-in-law."
Alexander's brow immediately furrowed.
He decisively hung up and prepared to call Lila to tell her to come back.
However, Charlie said, "The chairman has already arrived. She's been waiting in your office for five minutes and doesn't seem too happy."
Alexander's cold gaze swept toward him.
Charlie understood his look and explained reluctantly, "You were returning the call just now, so I didn't have time to mention it."
Alexander put away his phone and walked toward the office.
As soon as he entered, a sound reached his ears—Gaia heavily setting down her cup. She asked with displeasure, "Where's my granddaughter-in-law?"
