Chapter 271
Chapter 271
Alexander snatched the phone so quickly that its edge scraped her fingertip, leaving it faintly sore
But what bothered her more was that just moments ago they'd been talking about kids, he'd confidently said she would definitely fall for him, and they'd even kissed.
Yet now, just a message from Celeste had Alexander so anxious he'd thrown manners out the window.
He grabbed the phone and switched off the speaker.
Was he hiding something from her?
Lila sat frozen in the passenger seat, no longer bothering to listen to what Alexander and Charlie were saying.
He hung up soon after and turned to look at her: "Something came up. I need to go abroad right away. We'll talk about the rings another time."
"Okay, you do what you need to do."
"Let's head home now so I can pack a few things. Then you can drive me to the airport."
Lila responded flatly: "Got it."
Alexander paid no attention to her mood and simply acknowledged with a brief sound before pulling the car back onto the road.
As soon as they arrived at Island Mansion, Alexander's phone rang again.
He glanced at the caller ID and looked at Lila: "Honey, go pack my things for me. Everything's in the walk-in closet in my bedroom. Pack extra underwear—I change them every day."
She wanted to refuse, but Alexander had already answered the call and turned away.
In the end, Lila said nothing and silently headed upstairs.
She entered his room, found a suitcase in his walk-in closet, and started packing for him.
Given the nature of their relationship, she really shouldn't be handling something as intimate as his underwear
But when he'd just told her to do it, he hadn't hesitated at all.
Maybe when he assigned her this task, he was simply treating her like a servant.
As Lila packed his clothes, she noticed Alexander had quite a variety of underwear colors—black, gray, navy blue, dark green, and even dusty pink.
The colors were quite different from his usual style.
But she wasn't in the mood to think much about it now.
Her mind was full of thoughts about what she would do if Alexander brought Celeste back with him.
Alexander had said before, "Agreements made in black and white aren't something I can just break on a whim."
So even if Celeste came back, she'd still have to continue being Mrs. Sinclair until the marriage contract ended a year later.
But how unbearable would her days be with her husband's first love constantly in her face?
The sound of the door opening reached her ears.
Lila snapped back to reality and hastily grabbed a few more shirts to toss into the suitcase.
Alexander walked in quickly and stopped beside her, glancing at the suitcase: "All packed?"
"Yes."
"Thanks."
Lila's lips twitched, but she said nothing.
Alexander bent down to close the suitcase, holding it with one hand while naturally reaching out with the other to take Lila's hand: "Let's go, to the airport."
She mechanically followed behind him out of the walk-in closet.
On the way to the airport, Alexander drove again.
Lila sat in the driver's seat, very quiet, though her mind was a mess.
As they neared the airport, Alexander instructed her: "While I'm abroad, if you need anything, contact Charlie. He'll help you out."
"Okay."
"You don't need to go to work until I get back. Consider it paid vacation."
Lila responded politely: "Thanks."
He seemed to sense something was off and glanced at her: "I'll take you to buy the rings as soon as I'm back."
"No need."
"What do you mean, no need?"
She said unhurriedly: "There's really no point in buying rings. We're getting divorced in a year anyway. If we buy them now, they'll just be painful reminders later."
