Chapter 172
Hearing this, Lila felt like a bomb had exploded in her head, leaving everything in chaos.
She instantly became nervous.
Because she really had thought about it.
Lila had no idea what was going on in her head at that moment.
Maybe it was his amazing body that had such a huge visual impact on her, or maybe it was because she'd never seen a man's body before, so she couldn't help imagining it for a second?
But who would have thought that days after it happened, Alexander would single out that fleeting thought from her mind and bring it up for discussion?
Lila didn't dare let her thoughts wander any further and quickly snapped back to reality.
She looked at him innocently and shook her head, stubbornly denying it, "I didn't think about it. Didn't I just say? I was just making stuff up to annoy Julie."
"Making stuff up? Why don't you just tell me. Have you been drooling over my body for a long time?"
"No, I wouldn't dare."
Alexander clearly didn't believe her. He let out a light snort, his voice teasing, "Now you know to act like an innocent little rabbit and say you wouldn't dare? Just now in front of Julie, you were so brave, doing whatever you wanted without asking me first. Where did all that bold courage go?"
Lila frowned, not liking how he was settling scores with her after the fact.
She looked at him unhappily. "But you didn't call me out in the jewelry store either, did you? Since you already went along with it, why are you settling scores with me now?"
"I was used by you. Can't I ask what it was all about?"
"Saying 'used' is a bit much, isn't it? You're my husband anyway. I just asked you for a small favor."
Alexander chuckled lightly. "You're quite good at arguing."
She refused to admit it and shot back. "How so? I'm telling the truth."
He pressed his lips together subtly and didn't continue the verbal sparring.
Alexander suddenly looked down, glanced at her hand hanging by her side clutching the corner of her clothes, and reached out to hold it.
Lila couldn't help but tense up. "What are you doing?"
Was he going to kiss her fingers again?
While she was wondering suspiciously, she heard Alexander's cool voice, "I just saw a really ugly ring. I think it matches your ugly face and chubby hands pretty well."
Lila looked completely unhappy and protested, "How am I ugly? You said I was pretty before. And my hands might not be thin, but people in our town all say my hands are blessed hands..."
Before she could finish, a diamond ring was suddenly slipped onto her ring finger.
She froze instantly, looking at Alexander in complete surprise, "What does this mean?"
He raised his lips slightly and asked instead of answering, "Is that enough jewelry for the wedding?"
In her surprise, Lila fired off a series of questions. "Grandma said we didn't need this much, that three pieces of gold jewelry would be enough. You've already bought five pieces of jewelry. Why buy a diamond ring too? Diamonds are really expensive, and this one you gave me is so big. Isn't this ring more expensive than all the gold jewelry you bought? And how did you know my ring size?"
Alexander frowned at her and asked impatiently, "So many questions? Aren't you annoying?"
"I'm just..."
"Enough."
Alexander cut her off coldly and dropped a line, "I'm giving it to you, just take it."
With that, not only did he not let go of her hand, he gripped it tighter and pulled her toward the mall exit.
Lila passively followed his steps.
She secretly glanced at Alexander beside her from the corner of her eye. His thin lips were pressed tight, his face cold and hard. His profile was ridiculously handsome, even his jawline was exceptionally perfect. He was just too perfect, almost unreasonably so.
Just as Lila was about to look away, she suddenly heard him ask, "Do I look good?"
