Chapter 47 Strip Club
Chapter 47 Strip Club
Lucas POV:
I have wanted her to marry me for a long time but she turned down every proposal I threw her way. She always claimed she wasn’t ready yet and she still has big dreams for herself. Despite my disappointment, I always apologized to make up with her. I just couldn’t bear to have her being upset with me.
After dinner, we headed straight to our unit.
The moment the door closed behind us, Giselle dropped her bag on the table and looked at me. Just like that, everything else faded. I closed the distance first and she didn’t stop me.
What followed wasn’t slow. It wasn’t gentle. It was the kind of heat that had been building for too long, finally breaking loose. It was urgent and consuming but in the middle of it, there was a flicker of something else in my mind and a face that shouldn’t have been there.
I shut it out. I had to. Giselle was the woman I chose for years. The woman I had always chosen despite Zara’s presence in my life.
So why did that guilt linger?
Minutes later, the room was still again.
She lay beside me, scrolling through her phone like nothing had happened, like it was just another night. I sat up slowly, dragging a hand through my hair.
“Love,” I called.
She hummed, not looking up. I stood from the bed, grabbed the small velvet box from my drawer, and turned to face her. That got her attention and her eyes finally lifted.
“What’s that?” she asked.
I opened the box. The ring caught the light. “I want you to marry me,” I continued, holding her gaze.
For a second, she didn’t speak and just stared at the ring, then at me. Earlier, I already made up my mind. I didn’t want to have another thought, especially about Zara. I didn’t want to be confused anymore.
Besides, we dreamt of getting married before and to start a family, but then a modelling opportunity came to her, and she became a different person. And then, Zara came and it happened so fast.
For several years, I blamed Zara for everything but truthfully, it was my fault. That night, I found out that Giselle had been using contraceptives and I was so mad at her. I left and went to that bar…where I made the biggest mistake in my life.
“You know my answer to that question, babe! I am not ready yet... I still have dreams for myself, for both of us! Of course, I love you so much but please, stop pressuring me about this marriage. Time will come, babe.”
“When is the right time, then?”
Giselle shrugged. “I am not sure yet. By the way, you came inside me again. Thank goodness, I am not fertile!”
“Would it be a problem? I can support a child,” I said.
“I know that, okay? But I am not ready to bear a child, darling,” she told me.
I couldn't help but get angry and frustrated. I didn’t want to say some nasty words to her but my temper was almost out of control!
“Please don’t be mad at me, my love,” she pleaded.
I faced her while putting on my clothes. “How?! How can I calm down knowing you refuse me again? All I want is to build a family with you. Look, I'm wealthy enough to provide for you beyond what you can get from modeling!”
She looked at me with the same anger. “Lucas! Can you stop belittling my dreams? Stop thinking that they are shallow! What do you want me to do? Be a housewife? I am not born to be just a housewife, just someone who sits still and looks pretty. You want me pregnant? It will destroy my modeling career!” she snapped.
“Then you choose your career over me. Crystal clear.” I said sarcastically and walked out.
I wanted to scream in anger! I was so furious! She just slapped me with it! Her words were knives piercing me through.
My mind was clouded by anger. She was always like that. She always believed that marrying me would ruin her career. How much longer should I wait?
Angrily, I called one of my friends, and we ended up in a bar.
Aaron, ever the perceptive one, sensed my distress and asked gently, “Hey, what's been bothering you, Lucas?”
His eyes showed genuine care, and I appreciated his concern. Taking a sip of my drink, I sighed before replying, “I've been feeling defeated lately, Ahron. It's like I'm stuck in this loop, not knowing which way to go. Work, relationships, everything feels overwhelming!”
Aaron nodded, understanding my struggle. “I'm here for you, man. Whatever you want to share, I'm all ears.”
His invitation encouraged me to open up, and I poured out my frustrations.
“You know, sometimes all we need is a little distraction to break free from those overwhelming thoughts. How about we enjoy the night, and have a little fun?”
His attempt to lighten the mood brought a faint smile to my face. “That sounds like a good idea. Maybe some distraction would do me good right now.”
“As you well know, women like Giselle would obviously turn down any proposal,” Aaron said.
Curious, I asked, “Oh? But why?”
“She's right on track, taking all the necessary steps to achieve her dreams. It got me thinking about how times have changed, you know? Modern women like Giselle have these high aspirations, and they don't want to be confined to traditional roles like being a housewife.”
“What should I do?”
“Focus on something else, buddy,” Aaron suggested. “How about we go a strip club tonight?”
