Chapter 125
"Sophie, you've wronged me."
These words sounded so aggrieved and helpless.
Sophie almost believed him.
Just from the way that the manager looked at Matthew, she knew he wasn't as innocent as he claimed.
"Really want to hear singing?" Matthew asked.
Sophie's heart skipped a beat at his words. "You're going to sing?"
"No."
Sophie bit her lip, almost letting out a curse.
Her mood was ruined again.
Sophie turned around.
Matthew grabbed her hand and pulled her gently, and she tumbled onto his lap.
"What are you doing?" Sophie struggled.
"Don't move around. I'll sing for you." Matthew held her and picked up the microphone beside him.
Sophie immediately quieted down, unable to believe it.
Was he really going to sing?
Matthew operated the tablet, and the intro music started playing.
Sophie looked at Matthew, full of anticipation, and her heart racing.
Everything was ready when the door to the private room was pushed open.
Sophie and Matthew both looked over.
Jacob appeared at the doorway in a white shirt, his handsome face showing a trace of urgency.
Seeing them, Jacob froze in place for a moment.
"How did you get here?" Sophie got off Matthew's lap. She wasn't shameless enough to sit calmly in Matthew's arms with an outsider present.
The lyrics were already displayed on the screen, with only music but no singing.
Matthew didn't stop Sophie from leaving. He crossed his legs, holding the microphone and swaying it gently, his deep eyes fixed on Jacob.
"I came when I heard you were here." Jacob asked her, "Still need company?"
Sophie instinctively looked at Matthew. Matthew rested his hand holding the microphone on his leg, tapping it intermittently, gazing at her calmly.
"Didn't you say you were busy? If you're busy, you don't have to."
"I'm not busy." Jacob smiled. "This is how I make my living. You came specifically looking for me, I'm grateful. Don't worry, I'll make sure you have a good time."
Sophie looked at Matthew again.
Matthew's face showed no expression, but she could vaguely sense he was unhappy.
But Jacob was already here; she couldn't just send him away.
Sophie thought for a moment and let Jacob stay.
Jacob immediately went into work mode. "What songs would you like to hear?"
Sophie said, "Whatever."
Jacob said, "There's a new song out, pretty good. I'll sing it for you."
He picked up the microphone and selected a song.
Sophie sat on the sofa, watching the MV on the screen, feeling somewhat uneasy inside.
If Jacob had been there from the start, she wouldn't feel this restless now.
Matthew's calm demeanor was really sending chills down her spine.
Jacob's singing voice was different from his speaking voice. His singing was no worse than professional singers, a feast for the ears, no wonder so many people came looking for him.
He sang love songs with deep emotion, reaching into people's hearts.
Sophie got absorbed in it, forgetting that Matthew was sitting beside her.
Matthew didn't make trouble, sitting there quietly, not playing with his phone, just listening to one song after another, not interrupting, not speaking.
He was more like a devoted listener.
One song after another, Jacob was very professional, serving Sophie and also serving Matthew, proactively pouring tea for them.
When he walked in front of Matthew, Matthew's eyes swept over him lightly.
Jacob showed no fear, poured the tea and continued.
Sophie couldn't really ask him to do anything else besides sing.
Two hours later, Sophie worried Jacob's throat was too tired and asked him to stop.
"Done playing?" Jacob asked.
"It's getting late, we should head back." Sophie stood up, glanced at Matthew, signaling him to get up and leave.
Matthew extended his hand toward her, his slender fingers beckoning.
Sophie frowned but still grabbed his hand. Without her even using any force, he stood up on his own.
Matthew gripped her hand tightly, glanced at Jacob. "Nice singing."
Jacob smiled. "Thanks."
"We're leaving, you get back to work." Sophie pulled Matthew out of the private room, Jacob following behind to see them off.
Sophie went to pay, Matthew pulled out his card, and took several bills from his wallet, handing them to Sophie, reminding her, "For the tip."
Sophie looked at the cash. She'd seen in TV shows that customers would give tips, so she handed the money to Jacob.
Jacob was stunned for a moment.
"Next time I come, I'll look for you again." Sophie pressed the money into his hand, smiled at him. "No need to see us out, we're going."
Jacob held the money, watching Matthew put his arm around Sophie's waist as they walked out of the club.
In the car, Matthew looked lazy. "Had fun?"
"It was okay." Sophie thought Matthew would make a scene, but he'd sat quietly for two hours, which surprised her.
"You know him well?"
Sophie turned to look at him, and he glanced at her too.
Matthew asked again, "Is he better looking than me?"
Sophie pressed her lips together, not wanting to answer such a question.
She was surprised by Jacob's sudden appearance.
What surprised her even more was that Matthew had been preparing to sing.
"You still haven't answered my question." Matthew wasn't letting it go. "You know him well?"
"Is that not allowed?"
"Have you met him privately?" Matthew asked casually.
Sophie's heart tightened.
She wasn't that familiar with Jacob, but they'd watched sunrise and sunset together. If she said that, no one would believe they weren't close.
"Did he watch the sunrise with you?"
Sophie's heart was pounding now.
She felt a bit guilty.
How did he know?
Matthew saw her staying silent, his hands gripping the steering wheel tighter.
"I guessed right." What was originally just a guess was now confirmed.
Sophie picked at her fingers. It was clearly just normal socializing, but coming from his mouth it sounded somehow improper.
Hearing that cold laugh, Sophie's breath caught.
She thought about how she hadn't done anything to wrong him, and even if she had, he was the one who did wrong first.
So why should she feel guilty?
With this thought, she straightened up. "Yes. I didn't just watch the sunrise with him, I watched the sunset too. Nothing wrong with admitting it. Unlike some people who sneak around meeting their ex."
Matthew frowned slightly. Seeing her ready to pick a fight, he shut his mouth.
Sophie let out a cold laugh too.
The car drove into the underground parking garage of their complex.
After parking, Sophie unbuckled her seatbelt and pushed the car door.
The door wouldn't open.
"Open the door."
"Like watching sunrises?" Matthew asked.
Sophie carefully considered the meaning behind these words, her brow furrowing. "Yes, are you forbidding it?"
Matthew looked at her deeply, then drove the car back out of the garage.
Sophie was confused. "What are you doing?"
"Put your seatbelt on."
"Where are you taking me?"
