Chapter 123 Aurora

Chapter 123 Aurora
Fiona’s POV

Visiting Daphne combined with my therapy sessions has made life easier. I’m finally learning to open up to Mrs. Jade, and honestly, it isn’t as hard as I thought.

Nick has been busy too, going to work and attending several meetings, while trying to be present for me. Things haven’t been great between him and his father, but hopefully, they’ll figure it out.

In conclusion, things are finally settling down. I have been working from home and trying to understand my new assistant—not that I plan to make friends with her, but she is too stiff, as if scared of something.

I understand that just like everyone, she also knows what transpired between my former assistant/friend and me, but sometimes, I just wish she would quit being robotic.

“What are you doing here, momma?” Nick asks the moment he enters the kitchen, before wrapping his hands around me from behind.

“I just feel like cooking,” I smile, slicing the meat.

“There are cooks for that. Come in…”

“No. I’m aware of that, but I miss my own cooking.” I turn to drop a quick, convincing kiss on his lips. “I’m not saying that your top chefs are amateur, though.”

“That almost worked for a second,” he laughs, trying to shake the effect of the kiss. “Come on, follow me.”

“What?” I whine. “Shouldn’t you be at work?”

“Are you tired of me already, hmm?” He pouts, turning me to fully face him. “You can’t be. We are yet to marry.” He winks. “So…. You are stuck with my annoying self for the rest of your life.”

Rolling my eyes, I allow him to lead me out of the kitchen to the balcony of our room.

On arriving, my chest tightens at the memory of that day. I haven’t told my therapist about the attempted suicide. Maybe it’s shame for what I almost did, or it’s the fact that I don’t want to believe that I tried to kill myself.

I know that I should tell her, but saying it out loud would make it feel real.

Nick notices, because he’s squeezing my hand softly and giving me a reassuring smile.

“So I was thinking,” Nick starts, sniffing my hair. I’m surprised he still does that; I stopped using shampoo since I got pregnant. The smell feels too strong now.

“What if we move out of here to mark a new start?” A huge smile hijacks my lips, my heart almost bursting. Here I was thinking of how to tell him this.

“Yes!” I squeal, stifling my laughter.

“You want that too?” I shake my head aggressively. “This time, you can pick a place. Anywhere.”

“Will you be okay with us moving back to the city?” I quirk, searching his face.

“Is that what you want?”

“Yes. Although I’ve always lied to myself that I hate the city, I want us to move back there.” I bite my lower lip before adding, “I miss that place. The noise. The hustle spirit. The people. Tall buildings. Everything.”

“Then it is done, your highness. Any more wishes?” He smirks.

Whoa, this is way easier than I thought. I expected more resistance.

“You know that our daughter will have to grow up there? Are you fine with that too?”

“Of course. As long as we are present in her life, she will do just fine. Besides, that’s where our love story blossomed.” I’m about to correct him, but he beats me to it. “I said blossom, not start, tigress.”

“Tigress? Has the name been updated?”

“Maybe,” he mumbles into my hair before trailing kisses on my neck.

“Stop,” I tease.

“We both know you don’t want me to do that.” He laughs. The vibration spreads from his chest to my body.

“How are things between you and Daphne now that you guys see a lot?”

“Better…” I trail off. “It seems like the old Daphne is back, and we talk about anything and nothing. Just like old times.”

“And how do you feel about that?”

“Great. Honestly, it’s been going well. We even spoke about baby names…”

“Ouch! Is she trying to take my position here?” He forces a hurt expression. “That should be a conversation we should have. I feel like I just got kicked out.”

“Come on,” I say in between laughter. “She is also her aunt. If it makes you feel better, we haven’t decided on a name.”

“Doesn’t make me feel better at all. So if you had…”

“We are on the topic now. I’m nearing delivery.” Now that I just said it, it feels heavy. So many emotions run through me. I can’t wait to meet her, and I’m sure it’s the same for Nick.

She’s been our light in tough times. One of the major reasons we pushed through.

“Light,” I mention.

“Light? Not to make you feel bad, but that’s bland,” he points out, earning him a small kick from me.

“That’s a start. Do you have a better one?” I taunt, crossing my arms over my chest.

“It doesn’t have to be light, but it can mean light.” I raise my brow, trying to process his words.

“We can start with Lucy, which means light in Latin, or Elena, meaning shining light.” He pauses to look at me, and I just nod.

“Thea also means goddess of light. Here is a rare one—Ayla, which means moonlight. See, there are just so many names out there that are light-related,” he explains.

“Oh. Makes sense.”

“Aurora.” He smiles. And I immediately fall in love with the name.

“Whoa. Does it mean light too? I have been in love with that name for the longest. It has a beautiful touch to it.”

“Classic, actually. Like it has Aura in it.” We both laugh before he continues.

“I honestly think it’s the best fit. Aurora is the goddess of dawn in Greek mythology.” My eyes glint with excitement at the first line he says.

“She brings the first light of the day. It marks new beginnings, hope, and renewal, and most importantly, light breaking through darkness.”

“I love it!” I squeal. Who would have thought that a name that embodied this much meaning existed? It reflects everything that has happened, and what she is to us.

Our light and our hope.

“It’s beautiful, Nick.” I smile, tears of joy threatening to spill out of my eyes.

“I know.” He shrugs. “It's her Superman's idea,” he boasts.

“Spare me that.” I laugh, slapping his shoulder.

Aurora. Thank you.
