Chapter 111 Rewriting Our Story

Chapter 111 Rewriting Our Story

Fiona’s POV

“Where are you taking me?” I ask for the millionth time today. Nick had told me to just join him in the car, but he won’t disclose our destination.

“Why don’t you rest your mind and trust me?” He smiles, eyes focused on the road.

Rolling my eyes at his words, I fish out my phone, trying to distract myself from my burning curiosity.

Driving together is something that happened some months ago; I never knew that one day I’d see this small act as a luxury. It somehow brings solace to me; I couldn’t help myself from smiling.

Everything feels like it’s back to normal. The people on the internet are slowly accepting the truth of my case, not like I cared if they didn’t. One thing Nick had taught me during this tough time is to prioritize people that care rather than focusing on the bad stuff.

Our car pulls up in an open garage before Nick helps me open my door. I still can’t make sense of where we are. I have never been to this place.

“Are you going to tell me now?” I ask, allowing him to lead me into the tall building.

“We are already here,” he muses. “Exercise some patience, momma.”

We meet some polite workers on our way in, and one ushers us into a dark room. When the light is turned on, a magnificent view awes me.

The wall in front of me… isn’t a wall.

It’s glass.

Floor to ceiling.

And behind it… water.

Soft blue light spills into the room, moving gently like it’s alive. Fish glide through it in slow, effortless motions, their colors catching the light in quiet flashes. It feels unreal, like I just stepped into another world entirely.

For a moment, I forget how to breathe.

“Oh my God…” I whisper.

The room is silent except for the faint hum of water, the soft rhythm of something steady and endless.

I take a step closer without thinking, completely drawn in.

“It’s beautiful,” I murmur, my voice softer now, almost fragile.

Nick doesn’t answer immediately.

I feel him step behind me instead. He wraps his hand at the lower part of my round belly, trailing wet kisses down my neck.

“I promised to take you to an aquarium,” he starts, flicking his tongue on my bare skin. Heat jolts through me. “I’m sorry it’s coming late,” he whispers.

“You don’t have to apologize,” I croak. It’s not just about the private aquarium; it’s the fact that so much has happened and he still finds a way to make me happy. To make me feel seen.

“Don’t cry.” His voice is warm, and it does something to my insides. I try to calm myself and stifle my tears, but I can’t.

I’ll blame it on the pregnancy hormones. Slowly and carefully, he turns me to him, wiping a stray tear with his finger.

“I’ll always be here, Fiona. Always,” he promises, his gaze softening on me.

“Thank you.” My voice shakes. I just can’t fathom how I would do life without him. If all this had happened without someone like Nick by my side, I definitely would have killed myself.

My chest tightens at the thought of me attempting to do that earlier. I was so stupid and ungrateful. If he hadn’t saved me, if he was even a second late, I wouldn't only be taking my life, but our baby’s.

Taking a deep breath, I lean against his chest, allowing his hand to rub my lower back.

“You are strong. Fuck, Fiona,” he pauses, lifting my chin to look at him. “You are the strongest woman I’ve ever known. And I don’t want you to doubt it for one second, okay?”

I open my mouth to respond, but nothing comes out. I just nod once. How do I apologize to him for doubting myself and overlooking his efforts? We haven’t talked about my attempted suicide since then.

Maybe it’s because of everything going on at once, or he just wants to treat it like it never happened. Should I…

“Stop overthinking.”

“I’m not,” I immediately deny.

“I can see the gears grinding in your head,” he teases. “Don’t overthink anything. We are past everything, okay? Whatever happened, happened,” he insists, like he read my mind.

“I’m sorry, Nick.”

“Don’t apologize for anything.”

But I don’t listen to him and continue, “I should not have tried to jump off…”

“You are stubborn,” he cuts me off immediately. “You better not pass this to the baby. That would be too much to handle,” he teases, changing the subject.

Proves my point. He’s actually avoiding bringing it up.

“I have a little surprise for you.”

My eyes glisten at his words.

“There’s another surprise besides this one?” I chime, my lips tugging in a smile.

“Follow me.”

From the aquarium, we enter another room. It’s a private cinema with just two seats. I haven’t asked him if this is one of his properties or if he booked it.

I can’t help the feeling of nostalgia that hits me. This reminds me so much of his home theater, and now, I miss his student apartment. That is where we made so many memories.

Where we argued, fought, made up, and literally did everything. My head hangs low at the thought of not returning there.

I love our new home, don’t get me wrong. But it’s filled with so many sad memories. Sleepless nights of sobbing into my pillow, times I’d attempted drowning myself in the jacuzzi, and most especially, the balcony still holds that memory.

“You don’t like the cinema?” he notes. Was I too obvious with my thoughts?

“No. Not at all. What are we seeing?”

“Why don’t you wait and see?”

His hand covers mine while we stare at the large screen. A newly released rom-com plays out, and for a moment, I get lost in the movie.

But after a very intense scene, just as I’m curious to know what happens next, the screen turns off.

I look at Nick in confusion, but he doesn't seem surprised at all. I’m about to point out the obvious when it comes on again, but this time, there are bold texts written on it.

My mind goes blank for a second as I stare at the words before me. My eyes are already burning with tears.

It’s just a few words, but they melt me completely.

‘Fiona, will you marry me, again?’

I always knew we were going to get back together, but I wasn’t expecting a proposal. When I turn to him, he’s already on one knee with a big smile on his lips and a new ring.

Different from the last one. Maybe more expensive. But it doesn’t matter. All that matters now is the man before me.

“Let’s rewrite this story,” he states.

“Yes.”
