Chapter 118
Chapter 118
Ophelia's face turned pale. Could the thing they were looking for be her jade pendant?
Ophelia froze for a moment, then quickly got up and headed to the fitting room to search.
But after searching everywhere, going through the entire store, half an hour passed without any sign of the jade pendant.
A bad feeling gradually grew in her heart.
She hurried over to Bronte and grabbed her arm. "Do you remember what they looked like? Do you know what they were searching for?"
Bronte looked confused and glanced at Blake, noticing that Blake was also quietly watching Ophelia.
She hesitated before speaking, "They didn't say what they were looking for, but I know it wasn't something very big."
Hearing this, Ophelia's legs went weak. Who were those people?
Could they be looking for her jade pendant?
But that jade pendant—no one else knew about it except her.
Even when Debra asked about it, Ophelia hadn't told her.
How could someone suddenly be tracking her and following her all the way here?
Blake frowned slightly. "Ophelia, do you know something?"
Ophelia stood frozen in place, not moving.
Just then, Lucas suddenly ran in from outside the store. "Ms. Weston, we've checked all the nearby surveillance cameras. None of them caught any trace of those people."
"How is that possible?" Bronte was extremely surprised.
When she chose this location for her store, it was because the area was relatively safe.
The surveillance coverage around here was very thorough.
How could all the cameras have missed those people?
Blake's brow furrowed deeply. "Keep looking. Get the cops involved too."
Lucas immediately nodded in response, but just before leaving the store, he caught sight of a small metal piece out of the corner of his eye.
He quickly walked over and picked up the metal piece. "What's this?"
Ophelia and Blake looked over. Blake frowned slightly.
Lucas handed over the metal piece. It had a strange eagle symbol on it.
Blake traced the symbol with his fingers, a meaningful smile forming at the corner of his mouth. "So it's them."
Ophelia asked, "You know them?"
Blake looked at Bronte. "I suspect it's people from the Schmidt family. Have you had any contact with them before?"
Bronte looked confused. Although people from the Schmidt family had come to her store before to have clothes custom-made, she wasn't very familiar with that group of mysterious wealthy people.
Besides, she didn't have anything on her that would interest them so much.
"Doesn't everyone say the Schmidt family is very mysterious and rarely appears in the world?" Bronte asked.
Blake looked thoughtfully at the piece in his hand, rubbing his chin. "Maybe they've found a lead on what they're looking for."
Blake looked up at Ophelia. "I'm very suspicious now that what they're looking for and what you're looking for are the same thing."
Ophelia froze slightly. "But what I'm looking for..."
Blake and Bronte both looked at Ophelia, waiting for her to continue, but she suddenly stopped.
"It's nothing."
Blake's gaze settled on Ophelia as he took her back to Pine Ridge Estate.
He reassured Ophelia. "When the cops have news, I'll notify you right away, okay?"
Ophelia nodded. After Blake left, she still contacted Debra.
On the phone screen, Debra was lying in a hospital bed. Her injuries from last time still hadn't completely healed.
"How are you feeling?"
Debra was surprised. Since when did Ophelia care about her like this?
"I'm... okay?"
Ophelia showed a creepy smile. Debra broke out in a cold sweat at the sight."What do you mean by that?"
"Do you know the Schmidt family?" Ophelia asked.
Debra looked confused. After a moment, she suddenly widened her eyes. "You're talking about the incredibly wealthy Schmidt family?"
Seeing Ophelia nod, Debra suddenly had a bad feeling. "You don't want me to go..."
Ophelia snapped her fingers and grinned. "That's right. I want you to go to the Schmidt family and investigate."
Before the Schmidt family came to Silver Bay, they had already bought land and built a villa as luxurious as a palace.
Although they kept a very low profile, such big news couldn't stay hidden.
Ophelia gathered information from the internet and finally got very reliable news that in two days, the Schmidt family might hold a large banquet, and all of Silver Bay's elite would be invited.
Including Blake, of course.
"If Blake is going, he'll definitely take you. Why don't you go with him instead of making me..." Thinking about having to face the Schmidt family, Debra felt a chill.
"Debra, help me this once. I have a feeling Blake won't take me. You're my only hope."
Debra thought it over for a long time, then gritted her teeth. "Fine. Even if I have to risk my life, I'll help you. Tell me, what are you looking for?"
Ophelia's lips curved as she said softly, "A jade pendant."
Two days later, Blake left Pine Ridge Estate very early. Just as Ophelia had guessed, he didn't take her with him.
Ophelia stood at the second-floor window. After watching Blake's car leave, she took out her phone. "You can start now."
At the same time, a text message alert sounded from the trunk of Blake's car.
Lucas was slightly distracted, and the car veered slightly off its original path.
Blake frowned slightly, opened his eyes, and looked at the back seat. "Stop the car."
Though confused, Lucas still stopped.
He looked at the back seat through the rearview mirror. Blake got out of the car, and he followed.
"Open the trunk."
Lucas didn't quite catch that: "What?"
The moment Blake's cool gaze turned toward him, Lucas felt a chill down his back and immediately opened the trunk.
It was empty.
Sensing the atmosphere was a bit awkward, Lucas scratched his head. "Mr. Weston, what are you looking for?"
Blake's expression was gloomy as he got back in the car without a word.
Meanwhile, Debra had already arrived at the venue.
The moment she stepped onto the red carpet, she couldn't help looking around. So many of Silver Bay's elite gathered together—this was her first time seeing this.
Although there had been many business gatherings before, none had been as comprehensive as this one.
It seemed this legendary Schmidt family really was something special.
Debra walked quickly toward the reception area and noticed everyone had invitation cards in their hands, but Ophelia hadn't prepared one for her in advance.
Debra cursed silently, her eyes searching around, when she suddenly spotted Barry Myers, a Silver Bay real estate tycoon.
Barry clearly saw her too. "Miss, have you run into some trouble?"
Feeling a hand suddenly appear on her waist, Debra responded with a fake smile, "Thanks for your concern, but I haven't run into any problems."
