Chapter 112

Chapter 112

Blake's chin rested on Ophelia's shoulder. "I didn't sleep all night yesterday. Don't I deserve a kiss as a reward this morning?"

Ophelia's face flushed red.

She suddenly didn't know what to say.

"I need to go out this afternoon."

Blake's body stiffened. "Go out?"

Ophelia knew that after what happened yesterday, going out again now wasn't ideal.

But she had no choice.

"There's a problem with Debra's new place, and I also have to make a trip to the school," Ophelia added.

These were urgent matters. Though Ophelia felt uneasy mentioning Debra to Blake.

After all, Blake had locked Debra up before, and it was Ronnie who had someone rescue her.

After that, Blake never mentioned Debra again.

Hearing Debra's name again, Blake's eyes narrowed.

Ophelia immediately felt exposed under his gaze, as if there was nowhere to hide.

Just as she was thinking of an excuse to brush it off, Blake suddenly spoke.

His voice carried a hint of hoarseness. "Who's Debra?"

Ophelia wisely said nothing more.

Her heart stirred, and she reached up to wrap her arms around Blake's neck. "Just a friend from Oak Haven Retreat. But can I go out tonight?"

Ophelia's voice was soft and sweet, making Blake feel as if electric currents were running through his body.

He buried his face in Ophelia's neck. "Yes, whatever you say."

Ophelia smiled and left a kiss at the corner of Blake's mouth.

But when Blake tried to deepen the kiss, she suddenly pulled away. "Wait until I come back tonight."

Blake's lips curved up. He turned and leaned back against the counter, watching Ophelia with gentle, calm eyes. "Send me the location. I'll have Lucas pick you up tonight."

Ophelia nodded.

She went upstairs to gather her things, then arrived outside Debra's villa.

Seeing the doors and windows tightly shut, she frowned.

She walked to the iron gate and rang the doorbell, but no one answered.

The huge villa had a neat and cozy garden, but there wasn't a soul in sight.

This was too strange.

Ophelia gave a gentle push, and the iron gate opened.

The further in she walked, the quieter it became.

By the time she reached the villa entrance, Ophelia's unease grew stronger.

"Ophelia?"

Ophelia spun around to see Debra appear from a corner of the garden.

She was holding a shovel and a watering can.

"You're here?" Debra put down what she was holding and walked toward Ophelia. Just as Ophelia was about to exchange pleasantries, she suddenly saw Debra's expression change.

"Leave now."

"What?"

Before Ophelia could finish speaking, Debra shoved her hard.

"Go! There are people here!"

Ophelia reacted, quickly running out through the iron gate. As she crossed the threshold, from the corner of her eye, she spotted a man hidden in the bushes.

His gun was already aimed at the back of her head.

The moment he pulled the trigger, Ophelia threw herself forward. Her palms scraped against the ground, blood seeping from the wounds, but she didn't dare stop.

In that brief moment, she glanced back and saw that those people had already caught up.

The villa was halfway up the mountain. If she ran down the mountain road, she would definitely be caught.

Instead, Ophelia climbed up the mountain, hiding herself in the trees.

She watched quietly as three armed men ran past, not far from where she hid.

Ophelia steadied her breathing, clutching her phone tightly.

She was about to call Blake when suddenly an unknown number called.

Though the phone's ringtone wasn't loud, it quickly caught the attention of those professional killers.

They immediately changed direction and chased up the mountain.

Ophelia turned and ran. She didn't know how long she'd been running—until her legs felt like they would break—when she finally saw the foot of the mountain.

Just then, a bus was approaching.

She immediately rushed onto it, leaving the pursuing killers behind.

The first thing she did after boarding was call Debra to confirm her safety.

But at that moment, a black gun pressed against the back of her neck. "Ms. Hayes, what a pleasant surprise. Now, give me your phone."

Ophelia's lips curved into a cold smile. The instant she handed over the phone, she pressed the side button, changing the phone's system.

This way, when they got the phone, they would only see a brand new, blank phone with no trace of use.

"You can have the phone, but can you tell me how you did it?"

A large hand took the phone and casually stuffed it into a pocket. "Did what?"

Ophelia's eyelid twitched.

If these people had run up the mountain for as long as she had, how could they not be out of breath at all?

And the bus had just arrived—they couldn't possibly have gotten on before her in such a short time.

Were there two groups?

"Do your teammates already know you've caught me?"

Ophelia decided to keep probing, but unexpectedly, the person behind her frowned deeply, showing signs of impatience.

He pushed the gun forward. "Shut up. I don't understand what you're saying. Say one more word and I'll shoot you."

Ophelia finally understood—there were two groups after her, and they didn't know each other.

Now, she had to find a way to get this message out before the bus stopped.

Ophelia turned her head and glanced at the window beside her.

Ophelia suddenly sneezed.

She wiped her nose with a tissue and casually threw it out the window.

The whole sequence happened so fast that the person behind her didn't have time to react.

"What are you doing?" A sinister voice, filled with anger, came from behind.

Ophelia rubbed her nose. "I just have a cold, nothing else."

The man pressed against the bus window and looked out. It was just an ordinary tissue ball.

But he was still on edge.

He'd received word that the boss's target was in this area, so he'd rushed over immediately.

He'd thought this place was too remote and would be a waste of time, but just as he was about to leave, the target suddenly appeared on the bus.

What luck!

Now he just had to be careful, keep watch over the target, and deliver her to the employer to get a big payday.

"I'm warning you, if anything like this happens again, I'll shoot you on the spot. Got it?"

Ophelia nodded.

With a frightened expression on her face, the person behind her finally relaxed a bit.

After Ophelia sensed he'd let his guard down, mockery flashed in her eyes.

Good. The message was out now. Debra must know something happened to her and would surely get word to Blake in time.

She believed Blake would find that tissue ball.

It had information about this bus on it.

Ophelia glanced at her fingertip, scratched by a sharp nail, and her lips curved slightly.
