Chapter 110

Chapter 110

The police would definitely track her down through the surveillance footage.

When that happened, even if she was innocent, she wouldn't be able to explain herself clearly.

What should she do? What could she do at a time like this?

All kinds of worst-case scenarios kept flashing through Ophelia's mind.

Suddenly, a large hand covered her mouth from behind.

Ophelia struggled desperately, but then suddenly heard a familiar voice.

"Don't scream, it's me."

Ophelia's wildly pounding heart calmed down, and the two of them retreated together to the corner of the alley. "Why did you come? Did the cops outside spot you?"

Blake cupped Ophelia's face with both hands and pressed a kiss on her lips. "Baby, don't worry. Don't ask about other things. The police will come looking for you in a bit. Just go with them, and leave the rest to me to handle."

Ophelia's mind was full of questions. What did this mean?

Did Blake already know something like this would happen?

"I need an explanation."

Blake smiled bitterly. "The person lying on the ground is Zoey. Someone is obviously trying to frame me, but you got caught up in it. Prison certainly isn't free, but it's the only relatively safe place."

Ophelia felt terrible. She had stayed at Oak Haven Retreat for so long, and now that she had finally gotten out, she had to go to prison.

Could she trust Blake?

"Right now, you can only trust me." Blake gently brushed aside her hair and kissed her forehead.

"Be good, go. Once I arrange everything else, I'll get you out."

Ophelia nodded, watching Blake disappear at the end of the alley.

She took a deep breath, turned around, and looked at the suspicious-faced police officer walking toward her.

"Hello, Miss, we..."

"Hands up! Don't move!"

The officer's originally calm expression suddenly changed the moment he saw Zoey's body.

"Did you kill her?"

The gun was already pointed at Ophelia's forehead, but she showed no fear.

Ophelia did as the officer asked and raised her hands. "It wasn't me. I was just called here by a phone call. I was about to call the cops when you already arrived."

Ophelia took out her phone. The screen clearly showed the emergency call interface, just not dialed yet.

The officer frowned, highly doubtful of everything Ophelia said.

The woman before him had seen a dead body, especially a female corpse that died in such a horrific way, yet she wasn't scared at all.

Instead, she was so calm.

This was too strange.

"In that case, Miss, we need to take you back to the police station to assist with the investigation."

Ophelia nodded expressionlessly. She was escorted to the police station.

Inside the interrogation room, the officer placed a phone in front of Ophelia. "Ms. Hayes, according to what you said, we checked your phone records and indeed found that you had a phone call with the deceased shortly before her death. What did you talk about?"

Hearing this, Ophelia frowned.

Did Zoey really die after calling her? Why?

"As you can see, my relationship with her wasn't great. I was also surprised when she suddenly called me this time."

"As for what we said, I have a habit of recording calls. You can check my cloud account and listen to the recording."

This was the first time the police had encountered such a cooperative suspect.

But their suspicion of Ophelia hadn't lessened.

The officer took Ophelia's phone to the evidence department.

After checking, they indeed found the recording. However, when everyone listened to it, they were all stunned.

In the recording, the deceased named Zoey had an extremely arrogant attitude toward Ophelia.

She kept provoking her. "Ophelia, let me tell you, the only reason Mr. Weston keeps you around is because of novelty. What Mr. Weston really likes is someone like me."

"Ophelia, you probably don't know this, but actually Mr. Weston and I have already..."

The rest was too vulgar to repeat.

However, the police took it very seriously, especially since the deceased had mentioned Blake.

But when the police investigating this case contacted Lucas, Lucas said, "Mr. Weston doesn't have time right now. Please handle it according to procedure."

Hearing the officer relay this, Ophelia wasn't surprised at all.

This must have been arranged by Blake already.

"Ms. Hayes, can you tell us what your relationship with Mr. Weston is?"

Ophelia curved her lips. "What do you think it is?"

"How dare you!" The officer standing behind was very angry. "Ms. Hayes, please be more serious. We're conducting an investigation here."

Ophelia propped up her chin. "I see. Sir, my relationship with Mr. Weston is just as you heard on the phone. Mr. Weston keeps me around out of temporary novelty, and he can discard me anytime once he gets bored."

The officers stroked their chins and whispered to each other. "Are you serious?"

"Of course."

The officer thought for a moment. "Then who is this Debra mentioned in your conversation?"

Ophelia's eyelid twitched. "Debra is a friend of mine."

The officer keenly caught the key point. "What kind of friend? As far as we know, your relationship with Zoey wasn't good. If that's the case, how would she know you have a friend named Debra?"

A loud knocking sound came from outside the interrogation room door.

The officer turned to open it, and as soon as he did, the door was kicked open.

"You dare attack a police officer!" The officer drew his gun to intimidate, but then realized the person was the chairman of the King Group.

"Mr. King, I'm very sorry, but we're working right now. Please go outside first."

Wesley snorted coldly. "Who do you think you are? Get your chief to talk to me!" With that, his sharp eyes fixed tightly on Ophelia, and he slammed his cane on the ground.

"So you're the murderer who killed my daughter?"

Ophelia frowned. "I just happened to be there, and that makes me a murderer? If a rat had been there at the time, would you consider that rat the murderer of your daughter?"

Wesley sneered. "What a sharp-tongued woman. If you won't talk, I have ways to make you talk."

Wesley raised his hand slightly.

The men in black behind him suddenly stepped forward to take Ophelia away.

The officer who had been kicked to the ground earlier quickly got up, clutching his stomach. "Mr. King, this might not be appropriate. This Ms. Hayes seems to have some relationship with Mr. Weston."

Wesley's movement suddenly stopped, his brow furrowing. "You're talking about Blake?"

The officer nodded repeatedly. "Yes, Mr. Weston."

Wesley told the men in black to stop. "In that case, I'll see what Mr. Weston has to say. Ophelia, if Mr. Weston doesn't show up at the police station by noon tomorrow, no one will be able to save you then."
