Chapter 181
Chapter 181
"Brian, my father in name only, cheated on my mom a long time ago. He kept a mistress and had a child with her. He's been draining money from the company accounts, secretly transferring assets, and completely ignoring me and my mom."
William squeezed Emily's hand tightly when he heard this, he looked at Emily with heartache, not interrupting her story.
"My mom knew about it all along, but for my sake, for this family, she kept swallowing her anger. She thought as long as she could endure it, as long as I was okay, the family wouldn't fall apart. But Brian teamed up with outsiders to corner my mom step by step, took away the company, and threw all the dirt on her. That's how my mom was driven crazy by him, bit by bit."
Talking about her and Amelia's past, Emily's lips curved into a bitter smile.
The scenes from back then seemed to replay before her eyes.
"When I returned to that house, all I could do was watch my mom suffer. I couldn't do anything."
After finishing that last sentence, Emily seemed completely drained of energy, leaning softly against William, tears falling silently.
William's whole body stiffened, his chest surging with overwhelming anger and heartache.
He knew Brian was no good, but he never imagined this scumbag could be so despicable.
Switched babies, emotional abuse, affairs, scheming for family assets, driving his wife insane.
All these evil deeds were simply too numerous to list.
He held Emily tightly, his chin resting on top of her head, his voice carrying suppressed fury yet still soft enough to melt.
"It's all in the past, Emily, it's all in the past."
"From now on, you have me. I won't let you suffer any more grievances, won't let anyone hurt you, Amelia, or the children. What Brian owes you all, I'll collect back every single bit, with interest!"
The plane passed through the clouds, the turbulence gradually subsided, and finally landed smoothly at a private airport in Switzerland.
The cabin door opened, and a top-tier team that had been waiting outside quickly came forward.
They carried a stretcher and held lots of professional equipment, looking very professional.
Amelia was still asleep at this time.
She was transferred carefully, without any disturbance throughout the process.
The group took a car to Switzerland's top private hospital.
This hospital had a peaceful environment and tight security, completely isolated from outside interference.
Plus, they had an extremely authoritative expert in mental health, and this was exactly why William chose this hospital.
The doctor took Amelia for a comprehensive examination. William held Emily's hand.
"I'll go with you to buy some daily necessities. Amelia will need them in the hospital, and so will you."
Seeing his thoughtful consideration, Emily nodded, her eyes showing some fatigue but also much more at ease.
The two walked into a nearby high-end lifestyle goods store.
It had everything, quiet and elegant.
Emily carefully selected the daily necessities she might need, all styles Amelia commonly used.
William followed beside her, clearly being a very qualified partner.
He didn't disturb or rush her, only handing her a bag when Emily needed it, or sharing his comparison results.
Walking to a corner of the shelves, William said in a low voice.
"I'm going to the restroom, I'll be right back."
"Okay, I'll wait for you here."
Emily nodded in agreement without looking up, still selecting items in her hands.
William walked into the restroom, closed the door behind him, and immediately took out his phone to call his assistant.
His voice instantly turned cold, without any of the gentleness from before.
"Mr. Brown, what are your orders?"
The assistant answered quickly, greeting him first.
William's voice was low, his tone carrying some ruthlessness.
"Two things. First, find Brian's whereabouts immediately, even if you have to dig three feet underground. Don't alert the police for now. I want to handle him personally. I want to make his life a living hell."
"Second."
At this point, he paused, thinking of the person his assistant had mentioned before, a flash of disdain in his eyes.
"Emily has a sister named Sophia, also not a good person. Check her recent activities and give her a lesson. Don't be polite."
The assistant quickly agreed.
"Okay, I'll arrange it right away."
Having just made an international call, the assistant reminded him again.
"Mr. Brown, about James's matter, we continued investigating and found great resistance. The other party is hiding very deep. We can basically confirm that someone is backing him, and this person... is your old enemy."
William's eyes darkened slightly, but he wasn't too surprised.
He had guessed it already.
James was just a pawn. The person really hiding behind was his target.
"Perfect, we'll catch them all this time. Brian, Sophia, James, and the big fish behind them—none of them will escape this time."
William changed his tone, lowering his voice even more, with a hint of barely noticeable anticipation as he asked.
"By the way, how's that thing I asked you to prepare coming along?"
The assistant immediately understood, his tone confident.
"Please rest assured, everything is being prepared according to plan, foolproof. There's still half a month until Ms. Johnson's birthday, plenty of time. There definitely won't be any mistakes."
William's lips curved slightly upward, and thinking of Emily, a touch of tenderness flashed in his eyes.
"Good. Keep it confidential. She can't know in advance."
"Yes."
After hanging up, William took a deep breath, adjusted himself, and pushed the door open.
Emily was still selecting items where she had been. Seeing him come out, she asked with slight reproach.
"Where did you go? Why so long?"
William didn't answer, just smiled and took the shopping basket from Emily's hands.
Emily had picked out two large bags of items, all daily household goods.
Seeing that she had picked almost everything, Emily checked carefully once more and was ready to go pay.
But when she turned around, she saw William still standing there, the corners of his lips unconsciously turned up, smiling somewhat foolishly.
Emily looked at his silly smile and couldn't help but curve her lips.
"What are you standing there smiling about by yourself? So weird."
William stepped forward, put the items in one hand, and held her hand with the other.
He gently rubbed the back of her hand with his fingertips, his eyes serious and moved.
"Nothing."
Seeing that he didn't say anything, Emily didn't press further.
But then William suddenly said something that left her confused.
"Emily, thank you."
"Huh, thank me for what?"
She looked at William with complete confusion, really unable to figure out why he was suddenly acting so strange, but William didn't explain further, just held her hand tighter.
"Nothing, just wanted to thank you."
Thank you for coming into my life and filling my future with hope.
