Chapter 126 Alice's Child is Not Daniel's
"Let go, it's me." Daniel's low, familiar voice came from above her head.
Only then did Scarlett belatedly realize that the arms restraining her were also so familiar.
His calming scent of cold pine was still in her nostrils—she'd been too wound up just now to notice.
All the strength drained from her body. As she released her bite, she also leaned into Daniel's embrace.
Daniel shook his bitten hand, his expression helpless.
"Are you getting addicted to biting me?"
His chin hadn't healed yet, and now his palm had another teeth mark. The key thing was that Scarlett had bitten the same hand he'd injured with the bank card before.
His barely healed wound had been bitten open again by her, and his palm was bleeding once more.
Scarlett grabbed Daniel's hand, shocked.
"I didn't bite that hard. How is it bleeding so much?"
Seeing blood drops falling to the ground, Scarlett gripped Daniel's wrist. "Let's go disinfect and bandage it quickly."
This kind of injury didn't need a nurse. Scarlett bought iodine and gauze, and in the glass corridor between the outpatient and inpatient buildings, she helped Daniel treat the wound.
As she applied medicine to his palm, she finally noticed the wound was a cut, not from her recent bite.
"How did you get this?"
"So you do care about me?" Daniel's lips curved slightly. He didn't answer her, changing the subject instead. "What just happened?"
Scarlett looked up, her expression complicated as she glanced at Daniel.
Daniel felt her gaze was landing somewhere odd, as if she was looking at his hair.
He raised his hand to touch the hair on top of his head. "Is there something on it?"
Scarlett shook her head. "I'm trying to see inside your brain, to figure out if you even know you've been cheated on."
Daniel laughed, raising his hand to pinch Scarlett's chin, his eyes darkening slightly.
"What do you mean? You cheated?"
Scarlett slapped his hand away. "We're already divorced. Whatever happens between me and other men isn't cheating. It's your precious darling, Ms. Brown."
Daniel frowned. Scarlett pulled out her phone. "I recorded something. I'll show you, but you better not get too worked up."
Daniel scoffed again. "Why don't you go buy me some heart medicine first?"
Scarlett rolled her eyes and handed the recorded video to Daniel.
When it first opened, the camera was shaking—no people visible, but two strange gasping sounds could be heard.
Daniel looked up at Scarlett with an amused expression. "You're showing me a sex tape?"
Scarlett's toes curled in embarrassment. She quickly looked around—fortunately, there weren't many people nearby.
She hurriedly turned down the phone volume and said irritably, "Just watch it properly!"
Then Alice's voice came through, and the camera found its angle, the image appearing.
Scarlett had filmed the video by reaching her hand out. She'd never gotten a clear look at who the man having an affair with Alice was.
After filming, she hadn't had time to watch it yet.
Now, curious, she leaned over to watch together. Before she could see the image clearly, Daniel pulled her into his arms and covered her eyes directly.
"What are you doing!"
Scarlett tried to pry his hand away, but he held it tight. He lowered his head close to her ear, his voice low and displeased.
"Scarlett, who taught you to film videos of other people having sex! Did you see anything or not?"
Daniel's voice carried displeasure and interrogation. Scarlett felt a bit dizzy.
What did he mean?
Shouldn't he be angry at Alice right now? Shouldn't he be furious?
Instead of blaming Alice for deceiving him, why was he questioning her, Scarlett?
Could it be that even after all this, he was still taking Alice's side?
Scarlett's voice became sharper. "Look and listen carefully! Daniel, the baby in Alice's belly isn't even yours. She's been having an affair with another man behind your back. She tricked you just to get you to invest in the Brown family!"
Daniel looked at the shaking images on the phone—the man and woman disheveled, an unseemly sight.
He only glanced at it twice, and didn't even wait for the video to finish before closing it.
Daniel's fingers worked for a moment, forwarding the video to himself, clearing the traces, and deleting the original.
He released his hand from covering Scarlett's eyes.
"I'm not blind or deaf." He said, handing the phone back to Scarlett.
Scarlett took it and immediately looked down to play the video again, because Daniel's reaction was wrong. She felt he hadn't watched it seriously at all.
She wanted him to watch it again, but found that the video from just now was gone from her album.
The video suddenly disappearing could only mean Daniel had deleted it.
Scarlett checked the cloud storage reluctantly, but even that had been cleared.
She stared at Daniel in disbelief. "What do you mean?"
"I told you before the baby isn't mine. Do you think I'd be tricked into investing over a billion dollars in the Brown family?" Daniel's face was calm. Clearly, that video truly had no effect on him whatsoever.
Scarlett looked at him incredulously. "So you knew all along the baby wasn't yours, but you're still willing to let Alice trick you, willingly investing in the Brown family?"
Daniel nodded. "There are some reasons. I'll tell you later."
A dense, spreading pain rose in Scarlett's heart.
For a man to help a woman like this, what other reason could there be?
Over a billion dollars wasn't a small amount, and Daniel was the most successful businessman.
Even if it wasn't out of love, there must be pity, there must be soft-heartedness.
What's more, this whole time, Blair had thought Alice's baby was Daniel's, and Daniel never bothered to explain again.
His attitude had never changed from the start, clearly happy to raise Alice's child.
Even knowing the child wasn't his, even knowing Alice had a lover, he was still willing to treat Alice well.
He was so selflessly devoted to Alice—what was she, Scarlett, getting anxious and angry for him about?
How ridiculous.
Scarlett actually laughed, though the smile never reached her eyes.
She suddenly pushed Daniel away, stood up and said.
"Since you already knew, then consider me meddling. We're already divorced, and I'm leaving. You never bothered explaining your reasons to me before, and from now on, you don't need to say anything. I don't want to hear it, and I'm not interested anymore!"
After speaking, Scarlett turned to leave.
Daniel frowned, grabbing her wrist. "Elliot should be finishing treatment and coming out soon. Where are you going?"
Scarlett forcefully shook off Daniel's hand. "I'm not going over there. I don't want to run into your mother and make things unpleasant for both of us."
Though she worried about Elliot, staying here wouldn't help anything.
Andrew and the others had come over. She couldn't even get close to Elliot's hospital bed. Why put herself through that humiliation?
Scarlett turned and walked away quickly. Daniel watched her cold, retreating figure and wanted to chase after her, but his phone rang.
It was Andrew calling. There must be news about Elliot.
Daniel had no choice but to turn around and walk quickly in the opposite direction.
On the way back, Scarlett's heart felt blocked and stifled like there was a stone in it.
She took out her phone, opened the ticket booking app, and pulled up the plane ticket she'd booked long ago, staring at it for a while.
She thought about how she'd be leaving soon, and all these annoying things would be left far behind.
Abroad, she'd have the dance she loved, and her sweet baby.
She probably wouldn't see any more aggravating people before leaving. Scarlett's mood gradually brightened.
But things often don't go as planned. Before Scarlett even got home, she received a call from Magnolia.
"Scarlett, come back to the hospital right away."
"Grandma? What's wrong?"
"Don't ask. I have Tyne waiting for you at the hospital entrance. Come quickly."
Magnolia hung up after speaking. Worried something had happened to Elliot, Scarlett anxiously had the driver turn the car around and head back.
When Scarlett got out, Tyne was indeed waiting.
Scarlett hurried over. "Tyne, what's going on?"
"Mrs. Wilson, don't ask. Just come with me."
Tyne walked quickly ahead, and Scarlett followed, feeling very uneasy.
Scarlett kept worrying that Elliot's condition hadn't been controlled and something had gone wrong.
But Scarlett soon realized something was off—Tyne was leading Scarlett to the obstetrics and gynecology department.
Scarlett felt very uneasy. Had Magnolia discovered she was pregnant?
