Chapter 304 The Pain Is Not Necessarily Less Than Yours

Alton rushed forward and caught Daniel. The stairwell was dimly lit, and Daniel's handsome face looked cold and noticeably pale.

"I'm fine, let go."

Daniel recovered from the dizzy spell and tried to shake off Alton.

Alton didn't let go, saying anxiously, "No way, Daniel. You have to get checked out and treated. Let's go!"

Alton had heard from Tom that Daniel had also been in a car accident on that stormy night, but he still hadn't gotten it looked at or even slept.

If this continues , something bad was definitely going to happen to Daniel.

"Let go!" Daniel frowned and said sharply.

Alton ignored him. Daniel's hostile energy flared up, and he made a move.

The next second, Alton was slammed hard against the wall. His cheek stung from the impact, and he was furious.

"Fine! I'll mind my own business then!" Alton clenched his fist and cursed as he turned around.

But the next second, his expression changed.

"Daniel!"

He saw Daniel's tall figure suddenly collapse.

An hour later, Daniel was lying in a hospital bed, hooked up to an IV.

The doctor diagnosed him with a concussion and stomach bleeding. He had only passed out briefly before regaining consciousness. Now his face was dark, and he was trying to pull out the needle in his hand.

Alton pressed down on his shoulder and tried to reason with him.

"Daniel, I just went to check for you. Theron sat for a while and already left. Scarlett's asleep now too.

Even if you go guard Scarlett now, it won't do any good, right? Just finish these IV bags and get your health back on track. Don't you still have more investigating to do?"

Thinking about what came next, Daniel's movements stopped. His expression became less agitated and returned to its cold composure. He said in a low voice.

"Tell Ray to come in."

Seeing that Daniel was listening to reason, Alton didn't stay in the room any longer.

After Alton went out to call Ray, he headed toward Scarlett's room.

When Alton pushed the door open, Scarlett wasn't asleep.

Sarah was holding up a tablet, and Scarlett was video chatting with Maeve on the screen.

Maeve wanted to come to the hospital to see Scarlett, but Scarlett laughingly stopped her.

Maeve was getting old, and she had barely slept the night before because of what happened to Scarlett. How could Scarlett trouble her to make the trip back and forth?

Steven sat nearby, coaxing Maeve.

"Sophia needs to rest now. She'll spend time with us once she's better."

Maeve said, "Then I'll make lots of good food for Sophia and have Theron bring it over."

Seeing Steven nod in agreement, Maeve became happy again. She put her hands together and tilted her head, making a sleeping gesture at Scarlett.

"Sophia, get some rest."

Scarlett smiled and made the same gesture before hanging up the video call.

She glanced at Alton and said to Sarah, "Sarah, I'm fine here. Don't you guys have things to do? You don't need to stay here."

She thought Alton had come to find Sarah, but Sarah shook her head.

"I'm free. I don't even know if I'll pass the audition for my next show, so I've got nothing going on lately. I'll stay here with you.

I need to stand guard and not let any bad men take advantage again."

Alton clicked his tongue and walked to the bedside.

"You can't say it like that. The baby was Daniel's too. Daniel's pain might not be any less than yours. He doesn't have psychic powers to predict that John would make a move that night. As soon as he found out what happened, Daniel rushed back right away.

Scarlett, you might not know this yet, but Daniel was in a car accident on his way back that night. He just passed out earlier and is receiving treatment now. Daniel's suffering isn't any less than Scarlett's..."

Alton said this hoping Scarlett would be a bit more understanding toward Daniel. Even if she didn't care enough to ask about him, at least she shouldn't be so cold.

Alton was Daniel's good friend. In over twenty years, he'd never seen Daniel this messed up, so of course he was speaking up for Daniel.

But Sarah got angry first. She spun around, grabbed Alton, and pushed him toward the door, furious.

"Even if Daniel got hit so hard he turned into an idiot, what does that have to do with Scarlett? He should go find Alice and Waverly to take responsibility, not Scarlett who didn't call him to the suburbs! Get out right now."

Alton was being pushed but still wouldn't give up. He stared at Scarlett, frowning.

"Scarlett, don't you have anything to say?"

Alton thought about all the years of friendship between Scarlett and Daniel, about how much Scarlett used to care about Daniel, and felt sure that Scarlett would soften.

But on the hospital bed, Scarlett didn't even blink. She just said coldly.

"Then please tell him that playing the victim doesn't work every time."

"You hear that? Go tell Daniel to give up. Get out!"

Sarah kept pulling him. Alton grabbed onto the door. "Scarlett, you've got it wrong. It's really not playing the victim! And Daniel didn't ask me to say any of this."

Sarah got annoyed. She let go of Alton's arm, stepped back, and lifted her leg to kick him.

She wanted to kick him straight out, but Alton had learned from experience.

When Sarah's kick came, he dodged to the side, then grabbed her leg with perfect accuracy.

So while Alton did go out, Sarah was also dragged along and disappeared from the room.

"Let go! You're a top actor, and you're holding onto my leg in public. How can you be so shameless!"

Sarah hopped on one leg with her other leg caught.

She bent her elbow to hit Alton's shoulder and back, but Alton dodged accurately again. Soon her hands were pinned behind her back, and she was being pushed forward.

Sarah struggled and resisted, but Alton neutralized every move.

Sarah realized that this jerk must have gone somewhere to train.

Before, she could go back and forth with Alton using her skills and moves without either of them losing out, but now Alton had made huge progress, and the physical size and strength difference between men and women suddenly became obvious.

She was completely overpowered with no way to fight back.

Alton got Sarah into the elevator.

Sarah was the obstacle preventing Scarlett and Daniel from making up. But Scarlett considered Sarah a good friend.

If Daniel did anything to Sarah, Scarlett would hate Daniel even more, and Sarah would just get more arrogant.

Alton looked down at Sarah struggling with all her might, her face flushed from the effort, and thought to himself, Daniel, this is all I can do to help you.

In the hospital room, Scarlett lay down wanting to sleep for a bit, but maybe because the room had suddenly become too quiet, she tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.

Her body felt sore from lying down. She held onto the cabinet and slowly got out of bed.

Without realizing it, Scarlett found herself outside the nursery. She walked forward and looked through the glass at the little babies lying inside.

So small, so soft, so adorable.

Beside her, a young couple was looking at their baby. The man supported his wife's shoulders from behind as they discussed their baby's name.

The woman noticed Scarlett, who had been standing there for a long time, and said with a smile.

"How many days old is your baby? Which one is yours? My daughter is the one waving her little fist..."

Before she could finish, she saw tears streaming down Scarlett's face.

She stopped, shocked and at a loss. Her husband also sensed something was wrong. He shook his head at his wife, who was about to say more, and led her away silently.

Scarlett stood there without moving, until a warm, broad hand reached from behind and covered her eyes.
