Chapter 293 Malposition of Fetus in Pregnant Woman
Chapter 293 Malposition of Fetus in Pregnant Woman
Daniel's brows furrowed slightly, his thin lips pressed together.
"Daniel? Are you listening?"
Not hearing his response, Waverly grew anxious, and there came the sound of something being knocked over.
Daniel asked in a deep voice, "How did she fall? The doctor should be there by now, right?"
"The doctor is probably on the way."
"With a doctor there, they'll handle it..."
Daniel turned a page of documents and signed his name, but Waverly interrupted him, crying.
"Daniel, my father's health has been really poor lately. He just fell asleep during an IV drip, and there's a sedative in his medication - we can't wake him up at all. I wouldn't bother you otherwise."
Daniel tapped his pen on the desk and said coldly.
"Waverly, what Alice did before, ruining my wedding - that was enough to destroy her completely. It was only because you and Mrs. White begged me that I agreed to let that child live.
I've done more than enough for the White family, even letting Scarlett get hurt and wronged. And how did your mother repay me?"
Daniel had spared the White family's child, yet Ella had sent people to hunt Scarlett down, no matter how far they had to go, wanting her dead.
Daniel's voice was cold and heavy, filled with bitter resentment.
Waverly seemed frightened by his cold, harsh tone, and there was a loud crash.
"Ms. White, Ms. White, are you okay? You still have a fever..."
A servant's alarmed voice rang out, then the phone was picked up, and Waverly's pleading voice became clear again.
"But my mom paid with her life, Daniel! This baby Alice is carrying is the only child Tobias left in this world!
You were the last person Tobias saw before he died. Tobias died looking for me, but without that phone call from you, Tobias wouldn't have died!
We both caused Tobias's death. Now that his child is being born, Daniel, even if it's to atone, you have to do this with me!"
Waverly's voice pierced through the phone, stubborn and agitated.
Daniel suddenly gripped the phone tighter, Tobias's unwilling eyes at the moment of his death flashing before him.
Those were eyes full of attachment to this world. Tobias wasn't even thirty yet - he should have had a bright future ahead.
Daniel had promised before that he would take care of Tobias's orphaned child.
"I'm really scared. If the baby can't be born, the child is already underdeveloped and premature."
Waverly's panicked voice continued. Daniel closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, his voice was dry and tight.
"Waverly, once this child is born, you should go abroad as soon as possible."
Waverly's frightened voice stopped abruptly.
She had agreed to go abroad before, but these past days she'd been hospitalized because of her burns.
Probably because she got burned while saving Scarlett, Daniel had visited Waverly twice. Seeing that she really did have recurring fevers, he hadn't mentioned going abroad early again.
Waverly had been secretly pleased, hoping her scheme had worked and Daniel no longer planned to force her to go abroad.
But who would have thought...
Waverly bit her lip hard, swallowing her sobs before responding.
"Okay. If the child is born safely, my father will at least have some comfort. With the baby to keep him company, I can go abroad with peace of mind."
Daniel breathed a sigh of relief, then pushed back his chair and stood up.
"You should go to Hampton Villa too."
Daniel grabbed his hanging suit jacket and headed out.
When he reached the parking lot, Gia's call came through. Daniel immediately answered, asking about Scarlett's condition.
"Mrs. Scarlett Wilson's foot swelling is much better. This afternoon she went to see Mrs. Maeve Howard, and also met up with Mrs. Magnolia Wilson. She walked around the park with them for quite a while and must be tired - she just fell asleep watching TV in the living room. Should I wake Mrs. Scarlett Wilson?"
Gia's voice was low, careful not to disturb Scarlett.
Daniel instinctively lowered his voice too. "Don't wake her. Let her sleep in the living room. Cover her with a blanket."
"Already done."
"Put something by the edge of the sofa so she doesn't roll off."
Daniel reminded her. Gia quickly said, "I forgot about that. I'll do it right away."
There were rustling sounds on the other end. Daniel instructed Gia again.
"Start a video call."
He hung up and directly sent Gia a video call request through Facebook.
Gia immediately accepted. Clearly this wasn't the first time - Gia expertly found an angle, pointed the screen at Scarlett sleeping on the sofa, set down the phone, and went about her business.
Daniel drove, occasionally glancing at the screen.
On the screen, Scarlett wore a loose white home dress, lying on her side.
Her long hair fell loosely, covering half her face, her hands gently cradling her obviously protruding belly. She looked very sweet and peaceful.
As the car got on the elevated highway and left the city, Daniel sped up and ended the video call.
Alice was being kept at Hampton Villa, not far from Shadow City.
Besides two servants the White family had sent to specifically care for Alice's daily needs, Daniel had also assigned three bodyguards to watch her closely.
Alice wasn't allowed to step outside the villa - no freedom, no entertainment. What she ate and how much were all regulated, everything for the sake of the child in her womb.
During this time, she was like a walking womb, living only to carry the child, stripped of all human rights.
Daniel's car drove into the villa courtyard. Waverly had clearly already arrived - she ran out of the villa, her face pale.
"The doctor says Alice fell at a really bad angle, hit her back, triggered a back injury. The baby's position is wrong now too. It's very dangerous."
Daniel glanced at Waverly and walked past her.
One of the bodyguards previously assigned to watch Waverly came over, reporting the situation.
"How did she fall?"
Alice was only about eight months pregnant, not yet at her due date. The doctor and nurses had been arranged, but this sudden incident had thrown everything into chaos.
The bodyguard seemed uneasy. "She fell in the bathroom. We checked the bathroom afterward and found nothing unusual - it should have been an accident. Sorry, Mr. Wilson, we failed to watch her properly."
Daniel nodded slightly, saying nothing.
Daniel walked upstairs, and a faint smell of blood drifted over. Alice's screams sounded particularly shrill.
Daniel frowned uncomfortably, his steps pausing slightly.
Just then, the doctor came out of the room, looking rather grave, and said to Daniel.
"Mr. Wilson, the fetus won't turn to the right position. She can't have a natural birth."
"Then do a C-section. Am I a doctor? Do I need to tell you what to do?"
Daniel's entire presence radiated cold impatience.
The doctor wasn't clear on what Alice was to Daniel exactly, so how could he dare make decisions on his own?
Cold sweat ran down his face. "But she's physically weak, her blood clotting is poor, the amniotic fluid is already insufficient. If we send her to the hospital now for a C-section, the risk is very high. If something goes wrong..."
Hearing this, Waverly reached out and grabbed Daniel's arm.
"Daniel, nothing can happen to this child! This might be the only bloodline left of the White family."
Daniel's cold eyes swept over, looking like they were covered with a layer of ice under the harsh white corridor lights.
Waverly instinctively pulled back her hand, her eyes reddening.
Daniel looked at the doctor, his eyes emotionless as he said, "You're the doctor! Do your job. Even if the surgery doesn't go well, no one will blame you."
The doctor breathed a sigh of relief, nodding quickly, then turned and rushed in to make arrangements.
Just then, lightning flashed and thunder rolled outside the window, trees swaying, casting twisted shadows on the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Daniel's heart inexplicably skipped a beat with the thunder, panicking for a moment, briefly losing rhythm, feeling strangely uneasy.
His phone rang suddenly. Daniel took it out.
Seeing it was Ray calling, Daniel quickly answered, walking toward the end of the corridor. "Speak."
"Mr. Wilson, we have a problem. We caught someone in a small fishing village in Regal City, but this John is a fake. The real John might still be in Shadow City - he never left."
