Chapter 300 I Plan to Stay With Him, Sharing Life and Death

James looked at Gloria's tear-stained face and wanted badly to pull her into his arms and comfort her.
"Gloria, what Caspian worries about most is you. If they were really going to race, it would've started already. Going there now won't help -
"It'll just upset you and make the baby anxious too." Gloria stared into his eyes. "You knew all along."

"I only found out when John shared his location with me. Gloria, you're Caspian's only weakness. He asked me to bring you back—do you really not know why?"

A bitter smile crossed Gloria's lips. "How could I not know?" It was precisely because she knew that she felt so terrible.

What Caspian wanted was for her to be safe. Gloria released James's wrist and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window.
The view outside was spectacular—you could see all of Silverlake Springs spread out below. Gloria gazed toward the horizon, hoping to see her love return.

James walked to her side and stood shoulder to shoulder with her. "Gloria, Caspian isn't reckless. His life experience far exceeds ours."
He never commits to anything unless the odds are in his favor. What you need to do is trust him."

"As long as you're safe, he can move forward without any burden. But if you leave Sunset Meadows now, don't you think he'll worry about you?"
"If he gets distracted because of you, that's when it's most dangerous." Gloria's emotions gradually calmed. "I understand."

The spotless glass clearly reflected Gloria's face. She spoke quietly: "He's very lonely."

He leaned in to listen. Gloria turned to meet his gaze. "I plan to stay with him, through life and death." James's expression froze.

He understood all too well—Gloria feared he had other intentions, that she was using her words to discourage him.

In fact, he knew better than anyone how wonderful Gloria was.

Back then, she could throw herself into his arms without hesitation, so he wasn’t at all surprised that she would do the same for Caspian today.

His voice came out hoarse. "...Okay, I understand." Gloria drank her milk, her emotions gradually stabilizing as rationality returned.
Her life had been a mess since getting pregnant.

She had originally planned to have an abortion and then resume her acting career, but fate had led her, step by step, to where she was today.

She watched Grace and Zoey shining in their own fields. She had been confused about what to do, yet still didn’t know what path to take.

At this moment, with Caspian in danger, she suddenly realized her own life felt barren. Her weakness couldn’t help him at all—instead, it had become his burden.

Since she had chosen to become his wife, she should at least be useful—not always crying and needing Caspian’s protection.

She couldn’t change her background, but she was only twenty-six—there was still time for everything. She shouldn’t waste her life anymore or squander her time.

Gloria needed to study hard, to catch up with Caspian’s pace. She no longer wanted to be his burden.

Just like that day when she sat and Caspian stood - the gap between them was huge.

Now, she wanted to walk to his side, stand shoulder to shoulder with him, and truly match him.

James was right - all she could do now was wait for him to return safely and let him feel at ease.

Caspian had been a special forces soldier—he wasn’t ordinary. Since he had agreed to it, he must be confident.

Gloria spoke calmly: "It's getting late. You should go. Don't worry, I won't do anything stupid."

"It's fine, I'll wait with you. If there’s trouble, at least you’ll have someone to talk to, so you won’t be completely helpless." Gloria found his words somewhat ironic.

So he knew about being helpless, after all. That night in the pool—if he had picked her up immediately, she wouldn’t have been left heartbroken in the cold water.

People always realize their mistakes after losing something. Even if they try to make amends, they can never change what has happened—what’s lost is lost.

Gloria leaned back on the sofa, anxiously waiting for news from Caspian. She clutched her phone tightly, afraid of missing any message.

James wanted to say something to her, but given their current relationship, what could he say besides telling her not to worry?

Suddenly, something white came down the stairs. Looking closer, he realized it was a small white tiger. It looked utterly adorable.

The white tiger sniffed the unfamiliar scent in the air, then padded over to Gloria’s feet and rubbed against her leg.

Gloria saw how cute it was and felt her mood lift slightly. "Just woke up, huh?" The little tiger’s eyes were clear, without a trace of fierceness.

Gloria patted the spot beside her, and the white tiger played carelessly on the sofa.

James watched quietly as the tiger interacted with the person.

Gloria used to play with Mittens like this at home. Now she had a different cat by her side.

The sound of a car came from halfway up the mountain. This road only led to their villa.

Gloria suddenly let go of Chris and sprang to her feet, running outside in her slippers. "Gloria, be careful!"

James quickly followed. The path in the yard was slippery—he was afraid Gloria might get hurt. He grabbed her wrist. "The path is slippery. Let me help you."

Gloria knew he meant nothing by it, so she didn't make a fuss. The baby was as important as Caspian.

Skin touching skin, her wrist was slender - he could wrap it completely with one hand.

He treasured the warmth of her body, knowing this moment was fleeting and he would have to let go. He could only hope time would slow down—just a little longer.

Gloria was too nervous to notice James's feelings. She stared at the Maybach that Joseph had driven out.

The car had just stopped when the back door opened and a man stepped out with his long legs.

Gloria had already pulled her hand from James and was running toward Caspian without a second thought. Seeing this, Caspian worried she might fall and hurried to meet her.
Two figures embraced under the car’s headlights. Gloria could no longer hold back her emotions, and tears streamed down her face. "You’re back."

Caspian's tall body bent down to hold her, whispering gently in her ear: "Yes, I'm back."

James looked at his empty palm, as if Gloria’s warmth still lingered there. He stepped back quietly, giving them space and time.

In a corner where no one could see, he lit a cigarette.

He'd been controlling himself these past two days, trying not to smoke.

So that when he got close to Gloria, she wouldn’t smell smoke on him—it wasn’t good for her or the baby.

After holding back all evening, he still lit one, tilting his head back to let the white smoke drift into the sky. He couldn’t blame anyone else—he deserved it.

No matter how much it hurt, he had to take it.

Caspian reached up to touch Gloria’s face. "Why are you crying? I only went to a social event—why does it feel like life and death?"
Gloria wiped her tears messily and grabbed Caspian’s hand. "Did you go racing?" she asked.
