Chapter 293 Ms. Mitchell, Long Time No See

Chapter 293 Ms. Mitchell, Long Time No See

Gloria looked at the parrot. She had only taught it some everyday phrases.

Caspian's mouth twitched. "It was Lawrence. He stayed at my place for a while."

Thinking of that funny doctor, Gloria got a bit gossipy. "He has his own home, why didn't he go back there?"

"Because he's mean."

When Caspian said that, Gloria thought it was totally out of character for him.

When she looked up at Caspian, he cleared his throat lightly. "He's unfaithful in relationships. He deserves it."

Having heard about Christopher and Zoey's love drama back in Crystalbrook, Gloria tugged at Caspian's sleeve. Without saying a word, she stared at Caspian with wide eyes.

Caspian explained helplessly, "Lawrence is naturally wild. From celebrities to influencers, from domestic to foreign, he goes after them all. A few years ago, he suddenly started keeping a college student, and we all thought he'd turned over a new leaf. He was at the age to get married too."

Gloria chimed in, "He chose another girl, right?"

"Yes."

Caspian had a thing about emotional purity, so he clearly respected Ethan much more, while being indifferent to Christopher and Lawrence.

"If that's the case, what does it have to do with him staying at your place?"

"He originally wanted to keep that girl in Emerald City and get engaged in Crystalbrook, having two homes. But then his arranged marriage partner confronted the girl, the girl broke up with him, and he couldn't stand his arranged partner either. Crystalbrook is only so big, so hiding at my place was his only way to find some peace."

Gloria added, "He really is a scumbag."

The parrot nearby echoed, "Scumbag, scumbag!"

Gloria smiled. "Good job. I'll reward you."

While feeding the parrot, she continued digging, "So what happened after? Did they really break up? If he didn't like that girl, he wouldn't have kept her around for years."

"Who knows? There are plenty of fools in this world who don't know when they have it good."

Gloria wiped her hands with a wet wipe and wrapped her arms around Caspian's waist. "Caspian is still the best—devoted and loyal."

Caspian rubbed her head. "Rest for a bit. The house is a bit messy. Don't wander around. I'll have people clean up so it gets done faster."

Gloria looked at the messy boxes in the living room. With her moving in, compared to the coldness when she first came, there was now much more warmth.

The glass reflection showed their two figures. Back then, she had asked Caspian if he felt lonely living here alone.

How could she have imagined that one day she would move here too?

Caspian was still busy, so Gloria went upstairs.

Between her and Caspian, it had always been Caspian who was giving. Sitting on the bed, Gloria thought about what special birthday gift she should give him.

She was about to ask Emily, but thinking of that mouth of hers, it would probably be something dirty again.

Gloria didn't have many friends. She sent Grace a message asking how she celebrated Ethan's birthday and what kind of gifts were good for men.

Grace sent her a photo—a natural rock painting with great texture.

Grinding rock into powder to paint—Gloria sighed. That was beyond her abilities.

She stared out the window, lost in thought. If she had been born into a normal family, maybe she wouldn't feel so inferior when facing Caspian.

He was born with supreme power, status, and glory. He lacked nothing. Even if she gave him all her assets, it would only be a small portion of his wealth.

Gloria and James came from similar backgrounds, so she never had these worries before.

The scarf she had knitted for him by hand—even though the cheap yarn pilled, he kept it in his closet without throwing it away.

Later when he made money, he gave her lots of jewelry. At most, she bought him clothes and watches, never really thinking hard about what to give.

This was the first time celebrating Caspian's birthday. She had to give him something special.

Thinking of what Emily said, Gloria suddenly had an idea.

She changed clothes, grabbed the car keys, and drove to the villa where she had temporarily stayed.

The clothes she moved out from the wedding house were all there.

She pushed open the door. The room had been cleaned spotlessly.

Gloria opened the closet and found that haute couture dress worth millions of dollars that she'd only worn once.

The dress had been cleaned and cared for, looking like new. The exquisite patterns on it sparkled under the light.

That night, Caspian had been in agony.

This time, she would help him overcome his inner demons.

Gloria put away the dress. There were still two weeks until Caspian's birthday. She could prepare slowly.

She packed a few clothes to go back. Caspian's call came through. "Should I come pick you up?"

"No need. I'll be back soon. I'm getting in the elevator now. Gotta go."

She walked into the elevator and pressed the hang-up button.

The elevator stopped on the fourth floor. Gloria had just put away her phone and looked up.

The man who entered wore a deep purple shirt with his coat casually draped over his arm, his collar wide open.

She was used to seeing James and Caspian in suits, so suddenly seeing such a "casual" man, she found it rather unconventional.

As her gaze moved from the man's open collar to his face, a refined face came into view.

The man had sharp features and a pair of very distinctive amber eyes.

The moment the man's gaze fell on her face, a chill ran down Gloria's spine.

Too aggressive a look—like a cheetah locking onto its prey.

He meant trouble!

Gloria's instinct told her to stay away from this dangerous man.

She quietly gripped her phone in her pocket and unlocked it. If anything went wrong, she would immediately call Caspian.

The man strode in. Gloria had been standing in the middle of the elevator car, but as the man entered, she instinctively backed away.

The man stopped in front of her.

Normal people in such a confined space would choose to stay as far from each other as possible. Even eye contact would be awkward.

But this man, though he didn't touch Gloria, didn't turn around. Instead, he faced her directly, his sinister eyes staring straight at her.

Who wouldn't be scared?

He was clearly crazy.

Gloria's finger rested on her phone, ready at any moment.

However, the man just stared at her without saying anything.

She wasn't covering her face. If he were a fan or something, he wouldn't have that kind of look.

Gloria stared at the elevator buttons, not meeting his gaze, but she could clearly feel his undisguised stare.

At this moment, she felt the elevator was unbearably slow. Every second was torture.

Not until the elevator door opened did Gloria feel relieved. She grabbed her bag, wanting to leave quickly.

Just then, the man who hadn't moved suddenly reached out, directly blocking Gloria's way.

Gloria met his face and said coldly, "Sir, please move. This is my floor."

He flashed a wicked smile. "Ms. Mitchell, long time no see."

Sure enough, he knew her!

Such a distinctive-looking person—how could she have no memory of him?

She frowned. "You are..."

Outside the door were several bodyguards in black. Not far away was a black business van. The man withdrew his hand. "I wonder who can protect you this time."

The man didn't look at Gloria again and walked toward the car.

The van door slowly closed. The man's slender fingers interlaced as he played with the signet ring on his pinky.

Such rings were usually family heirlooms.

The moment she saw the ring, a chill rose from the soles of her feet and spread through her entire body.

It was him!

Gloria's face went deathly pale with fright. She immediately called Caspian. "Caspian, can you come pick me up? I'm a bit scared..."
