Chapter 97 97
A smirk was evident on Jack's face "It's not an Oyster." He said.
Nathan was now scared to ask further but he had to. "What is it then?"
Jack maintained his smirk when he saw the horror in Nathan's eyes."Bull's testicles." He revealed.
Brooke's eyes rounded at her father's revelation. She looked at Nathan and realized he was gagging, about to throw up.
"If you let that out, we won't have that conversation. What will be best for you now is to finish up your special oyster, then we have the talk." Jack warned.
"What is wrong daddy? You don't like your food?" Liam asked, looking concerned. "Can I try it?"
"No!" Everyone said in unison.
It startled Liam a little because he was not expecting that.
Nathan drank the whole content in his glass before turning to Liam. "I do like it, son. But you are a little too young to have this kind of food." He then pointed to Liam's plate and said, "why don't you finish your food. I will also try and finish mine."
Liam nodded and went back to eating his chicken soup.
Nathan on the other hand too kept forcing the bull's testicles down. Every bite was washed down with a huge gulp of wine. As he ate, he kept gagging but he didn't stop. Tears welled up in his eyes.
"Daddy, is your food spicy? You are drinking a lot of the spicy juice." Liam asked. "Mommy does the same when she eats spicy food."
Nathan took the last bit and drank a whole glass of wine before answering Nathan. "It really was spicy. It's a good thing you didn't try it." He then turned to Jack and said, "I have played my part. That means we are going to have that talk."
"Hmmm." Was all Jack said. Soon, dessert was severed. Nathan was not a big fan of sweets. But at that moment, he was eager to have it so that he could wash down the remaining taste of the testicles.
Everyone was enjoying their dessert when Jack excused himself to answer a call. While Samantha skipped dessert and left the table. Brooke, Nathan and Liam were the ones left at the table.
"Sorry about the... special oyster." Brooke spoke in a low voice. "I had no idea what he was planning for you." She added but then began to laugh at the thought of Nathan's face when eating the bull's testicles. "I am sorry. I'm sorry. I couldn't help it." Brooke waved her hands apologetically.
Nathan was still grossed out by the thought of the dinner he had. But seeing Brooke amused by it, he also began to laugh. "I am glad you had fun with the torture I went through." He said teasingly.
"I had to ask, how was it? Did you enjoy it?" Brooke asked further. "God.... I am sure you would never go through such a situation again."
"That you are right." Nathan agreed. "I am sure you would never try it."
"Not in a million years." Brooke said. "I don't have the balls to do that." She began to laugh again. Her last statement rhymed with the situation at hand. She laughed so much her eyes sparkled.
Nathan remained quiet as he enjoyed this side of Brooke. He missed it so much. Even though it took him to eat a rare part of an animal to get her to laugh like that, he felt it was all worth it.
He felt he had progressed again with her. It might be an odd win but a win is a win. "If that would make you keep smiling at me like that, I will do it again." He said with a smile.
"I really doubt that. But if you say so, I can ask the maids to prepare another one for you." Brooke said through laughter.
"Bee, haven't I been punished enough for one lifetime?" Nathan asked with a sad expression.
Brooke chuckled again.
Jack began walking back to the dining room and called Nathan. "Let's have that talk." He said.
"Yes, uncle." Nathan said and got up from the chair. He followed Jack to the house study room. They sat down and began to talk.
"First of all, I would start with apologizing to you, uncle. I know I don't have much of an excuse to give you my actions back then. But it was selfish of me. I didn't think of what Brooke would go through. I didn't think of what you and Aunty would go through and also, I did not think of what my own parents would go through." Nathan began to speak with sincerity in his voice. He hoped Jack would understand and reason with him.
"I was young and had my own plans. I felt tied down by an early marriage and the one I didn't approve of. So I thought the divorce was my only way out. But then, only after the divorce did I realize how wrong I was. I was very wrong and I still carry the burden of my actions till today." Nathan added.
"Nathan, do you think this is all about that divorce alone? It wasn't just about the divorce." Jack finally spoke. "You and Brooke grew up together. You took care of her while you were young. And weren't we family and friends? Why didn't you talk to me or your Aunty?"
"After your arranged marriage, you threw all that away. You have to admit that the arranged marriage ruined everything. Our long time friendship with your family and your friendship with Brooke. Which was totally wrong." Jack shook his head before he continued.
"You made Bee go through a lot of pain. You can't even begin to imagine what she went through just to get over you and build something for herself. Now you are trying to tell me you want my daughter back?" Jack asked.
Nathan remained quiet and bowed his head down. But what Jack said next made him raise his head abruptly and look at Jack with wide eyes. The words gave him a strange feeling in his chest.
"Maybe you and Bee were never meant to be together."
