Chapter 71 71
Brooke looked at him before turning to look at Liam. He was not paying much attention to their conversation.
"I am truly sorry Bee." Nathan repeated the last part. He gave Brooke his most sincere look. He wanted her to understand that he is honest with her and his words are sincere.
Brooke shook her head at Nathan. "There is nothing like misunderstanding what had happened. You simply didn't want anything to do with me. Why then would you want to have a permanent attachment to me? It was clear." She said,
"Maybe over the years you decide to change your mind about me. But that doesn't change what it was then. That was the version I knew. Don't make excuses for that now." She sighed and continued.
"Nathan, please don't make this harder than it already is on me. I need time." She rubbed her temples and closed her eyes for a few seconds.
"I need time to think about all this. I also need some time to talk to my son about you. Only after that I can tell you when you can meet him, officially."
Nathan hesitates answering her. That made Brooke explain herself further.
"I need time to explain to my son why his father has been absent in his life. Please, I am trying to make this easy for us all. Don't try to make it more awkward than it already is." She said, referring to the first time Liam sees his father is when he was punching someone mercilessly.
Nathan groaned in frustration. He grabbed a fist fill of his hair. He didn't have any plans on letting her go from there, without him meeting his son the right way. At the same time, he didn't want to push it too much. He had already made a very first bad impression on his son. The son he has never met.
He needs to comply with her request. He has to be a man and act like one at that moment.
"Okay. Ok. I will wait." Nathan finally spoke. "But please, don't make me wait too long. Bee, I really.....really want to meet him." He stressed on the last part. He wanted her to understand that he was desperate but respecting her wishes to back off for now.
Brooke nodded in understanding. "I won't. You will get to meet him soon. I have to go now, Liam needs my attention. I will see you tomorrow, at the hospital." She added before opening the car door again to get in.
"Oh...and please don't follow me again. Brooke I told you, I need time to think and I need space. I am not going to run away. At least not anymore." She added before walking into the car. She told the driver that he should go.
"I will see you tomorrow." Nathan said and waved them as the car drove away.
'I have a son.'
'I have a son.'
'I, Nathan, have a son with Brooke.' Nathan kept repeating in his head for God knows how many times. A smile crept onto his face at the thought of that. He couldn't remember the last time he had a genuine smile on his face.
After all these years, he still had a very strong connection to Brooke. They had a child together. Nathan considered the little life they have created might be a sign that there is still hope. He might have another chance with Brooke.
Nathan only realized he was in tears when Brooke's car was no longer in his view. He wiped the tears away and shook his head. It all still felt like a dream. But a good one that he doesn't want to wake up from.
Turning around, he found his friend, Ryan waiting for him. He walked up to him. He wanted to hear the excuse Ryan will give for his betrayal.
"I am sorry, Nathan but you don't deserve Bee." Ryan began.
Nathan was taken aback by the confidence and audacity Ryan has. After what he had done he was still talking like that.
"You don't deserve her because when she was with you, all you did was to hurt her. She deserved better than that."
"Brooke used to be so lively that she lit up a crowd. But you took that from her. You made her miserable and you didn't even realize that. You took her happiness and her glow away. Where were you when she needed you the most?." Ryan continued.
"You were nowhere to be found then. After all, you were the cause of her pain. But as for me, I was there. I was the shoulder she cried on. I did all I could to bring a smile back to her face. I helped her get the new life she deserves here in Emberwood."
"So, you cannot blame me for not telling you where she was. I was protecting her from getting hurt again. She finally found herself and is happy. that was all I ever wanted." Ryan finally took a breath of relief. He finally let out a lot that has been on his mind to Nathan. Because he blamed Nathan completely for Brooke's sadness then.
"I can't believe you, Ryan. You are such a backstabber, a two-faced person and a hypocrite." Nathan said, ignoring all Ryan was saying.
"You can call me whenever you want. But I know what I did was not wrong. Maybe to you it was wrong but I did right by Bee." Ryan said.
"I backed out after your marriage to Brooke. Even though I liked her a lot, knowing that Brooke had only eyes for you, I let it be."
"But what did you do? You only hurt her. She is the only woman I ever loved but you hurt her. Why should I give her location up to you? You claimed you love her now. What about when she gives you another chance? " Ryan asked.
"You can get angry all you want, Nathan. You can call me all the horrible names you wish. But I have a good reason for my actions. I do not regret them either way."
