Chapter 72 72
"You can get angry all you want, Nathan. You can call me all the horrible names you wish. But I have a good reason for my actions. I have no regrets either." Ryan said. He did not give Nathan a chance to respond as he walked to his car and drove off without looking back.
Nathan began walking to his car with the intention of following Ryan. However, his phone began to ring. It is his mother calling from the hospital.
Nathan weakly answered the call.
"Son, are you done talking with Bee? I need you to come take me to the hotel. I am tired and need to rest." Marise spoke from the other end of the phone. "Mrs Scooter will remain in the hospital for now. Can you please come take me to get some rest?"
"Yes, mother. I will be there soon." Nathan replied before ending the call. He got into his car and weakly began to drive. He had three major things running in his head.
First, there is the fact that he can't wait to officially meet his son. The second one is, Ryan just reminded of all his mistakes that he is always trying to forget. He already knew it was all his fault and didn't blame anyone. Well... except for Keren, who had something to do with some of the things that happened back then. And the third thing that shocked him also, is the fact that his friend, Ryan is in love with Brooke. It turns out he has always been in love with her all along.
"Mommy, what did you mean when you said I am his?" Liam asked, looking at his mother with a weak and sad expression. After they got home, he had a warm bath and changed into a new outfit. They are both in his room now.
Brooke smiled at him through the mirror. Even though Liam has been curious lately about his father. He was patient enough to wait for them to get home, take a shower and wear his clothes before asking questions.
"Let me take you to bed first, then we can talk." Brooke suggested.
Liam nodded his head.
When he sat on the bed, Brooke checked his vitals to see how he was doing. The school had already given him medication. Now she just needed to observe him and see how he was responding to it. Then she will know if there is a need to see his pediatrician.
She checked him thoroughly. She understood that his temperature was going back to normal. No other symptom of him getting more sick.
"Everything seems to be good and your temperature is going down. Make sure to drink a lot of these." Brooke pointed at the water on his bedside table. "Hopefully, your fever should be gone by tomorrow."
"Ok mommy." Lucas answered. "Now I am ready to listen. Can you tell me?"
Brooke felt bad for her son. He was so obedient because he wanted to understand the situation in his life.
"The man from school, that was your father." She finally revealed.
Liam's eyes grew wider and he gasped. "You mean he is my daddy?"
Brooke nodded. "Yes, he is." She confirmed.
"But why haven't I seen him before?" Liam asked. "Why did he only come to my school today?" Liam asked with a sad face. "My classmates said my daddy doesn't love me. That is why I don't have one. Is that why I never knew him?"
Brooke felt a pang in her chest. "Of course not, sweetie. Your daddy loves you a lot." Brooke assured him, giving him a gentle squeeze on his shoulder. Now that the father and son know they both exist, she really hopes what she just said to him is the truth.
Brooke was sitting next to Liam on the bed. She now lifted her leg too and laid beside him.
"I don't know how to put this in a way you can understand. But I will make it in a way that you might get what I mean." Brooke said. She sucked in a breath and began.
"Sometimes, adults disagree on certain issues. Then they feel the best solution is to part ways. A similar thing happened with your daddy and i." Brooke said.
"I left before you were born and I didn't have the opportunity to tell your daddy about you. We live in different cities and I became busy with medical school."
"Sweetie, It is all my fault that I didn't tell your daddy about you. I was so busy and I failed to do so. It was all my fault. Please forgive me for that. Don't be mad at me." Brooke begged her son with a pitiful voice.
Liam looked at her with his turquoise eyes, similar to his father's. "I am not mad at you, mommy. I am just sad. I felt that my daddy didn't love me and that was why he didn't come to see me or take me to school."
Brooke moved closer and hugged her son. "I am so sorry, sweetie. I never really thought you felt that way. This is all my fault. Please forgive me." She spoke sadly. This was the first time that they have visited the father's topic. As Liam is expressing his inner thoughts. She couldn't help but feel even more guilty about what was happening.
Brooke kissed Liam all over the face.
"That is not it, sweetie. You do have a daddy. His name is Nathan. Nathan Leo. You will get to see him soon. If you get better by tomorrow, you can even see him then." Brooke offered.
"Mommy, why can't I see him now?" Liam pushed.
"Because now you are not well. You need to rest. But I'd you drink a lot of water and get better by tomorrow, then you will see him." Brooke explained.
Liam smiled and answered. "Ok, mommy." With his smile, he got up and reached for the glass of water and gulped it down.
Brooke realized what just happened. She chuckled at her son's action. He really does want to get well so that he can meet his father the following day.
"Good boy." Brooke said as she smoothed his hair with her hand.
Brooke decided to sleep next to Liam. That way, she can easily attend to his needs. At the same time, monitor his temperature and his overall health condition.
