Chapter 70 70
"Mommy, who is this and why is he hitting uncle Ryan?”
Nathan heard the weak young voice asking. He turned his attention to the boy. His shocked expression was maintained. He was met with a set of turquoise eyes, just like his and the black hair and the pointed nose. The boy is basically his younger version. All the facial features are the same.
Brooke’s last few words kept repeating in Nathan's head. He tried to comprehend what he just heard. It took him some seconds before realizing what Brooke's words were insinuating.
"Liam is yours. He is your son."
"He is your son."
"He is your son."
At that very moment, Nathan was confused. He didn't know how to feel about this huge news. But one thing was for sure. He is happy and glad that the boy was not Ryans', as he claimed earlier.
But, Nathan felt he had been cheated and robbed of his rights. How could Brooke keep such huge news like this for all those years.
Nathan heard Ryan's voice saying something to Brooke. But he couldn't comprehend what he was saying. Because he was completely distracted by looking at the boy.
"I don't want to talk now, Ryan. You have already done more than enough." Brooke spoke.
Nathan was able to make Brooke's words because she walked past him, going to her son. Ryan followed behind her as they continued to make small talks.
Ryan was trying to grab Brooke by the wrist but Nathan was quick to hold his hand. "Let her be. Why aren't you getting the message?" He barked at Ryan. He then pointed at Ryan and added, "you and I have a lot to talk about." His face was screaming betrayal as he spoke.
Nathan noticed how Liam was walking slowly because of his condition. Brooke was having difficulty giving him the support he needed. It was clear that she cannot pick him up.
He quickly walked to them. "Please, let me help." He offered to pick Liam up to the car.
"That won't be necessary. The car is just there." Brooke rejected the offer. Her voice was stern. She also appeared irritated.
Since that offer was rejected, Nathan rushed to the car and got the door for them.
"Let me drive please." Nathan offered. He didn't know what to do at the moment.
The driver, who was caught in the middle of the commotion only looked between the two. He waited for his boss to decide.
Brooke first settled Liam in the backseat of the car before responding to Nathan's offer. "You don't have to. We already have a driver to do that."
"Please Bee, we need to talk. You cannot just drop a bomb like this on me and just walk away." Nathan said. He just learnt that he has a son. There is no way he will be able to rest, with the million questions he has running in his head.
Brooke also settled in the car, after making sure Liam was. She then closes the car door before replying to Nathan. "Not now please. My son is sick and needs medical attention. I have to attend to him first." She reasoned.
"Our son, you mean. I believe I also have the right to take care of him." Nathan corrected.
"Not now, Nathan." Brooke said. "I don't think this is the time for you to start playing the fatherly card. Liam is sick. Don't forget the scene where you two pulled up in front of the school." She glared at Nathan and also glared past him. He knew she was sending the same daggers to Ryan, who was standing a few meters behind them.
The thought of Ryan and his betrayal stung Nathan again. He wouldn't mind giving him more punches at that moment. But Brooke and their son are more important now.
"I am also worried about him. I will wait. Where do I wait? When do we talk?" Nathan asked.
Brooke sighed, robbing her forehead. She could feel a headache building up. "Please Nathan.I can't say right now because I need time." She turned to look at him. "It might have been wrong of me to keep Liam a secret from you, but you have yourself to blame for that." She lowered her voice, not wanting Liam to understand the whole conversation.
Nathan became confused. "How is that? Was it the divorce? I regretted doing that but I don't think that is reason enough for you to keep our child from me." Nathan tried to reason with her. He also lowered his voice to match hers.
"No." Brooke shook her head. "I wasn't talking about the divorce. I was talking about the last time we were together. You know, from the club when you took me to the villa." She moved closer to the car window to make sure she is safe to whisper the words, without Liam hearing her.
"After we had sex, you asked if I was on my pills. You made mention of how it would be complicated if I wasn't. Given that we were divorced at the time. So of course I would assume you don't want to have a child with me." Brooke clarified.
"Plus, I assume you and Nicole would be married already." She added.
"Alright, alright. You are right." Nathan raised his hands in defeat. "I was wrong for making you feel that way and I am sorry for that. Now, we can correct all the mistakes we have made in the past-"
"Mistakes?" Brooke interrupted. "There is no mistake here. It was what you wanted at that time. I don't know what has changed over the years but you were pretty clear." Her voice was a bit louder now.
Nathan sighed in defeat. "I know I wronged you. I wronged you a lot Bee. You have no idea how sorry I am for it all. Things that I might have said that hurt you or the ones I didn't say but you wanted to hear them. Things I did that I wasn't supposed to or the ones I didn't do that I was supposed to. I am so sorry for all of it. This is all a misunderstanding."
"Misunderstanding?" Brooke repeated the word in disbelief....
