Chapter 344

Chapter 344

I turned to look.

Ethan pushed open the caved-in car door and struggled out of the vehicle.

His head was injured. Blood covered half his face.

Even his white jacket had been dyed bright red.

What was he doing here?

And why did he rush out to save us at this exact moment?

"Are you okay?" Ethan ignored Leopold and staggered toward me.

"I'm fine." I pointed at his head. "You're injured."

"It's nothing. Just a scratch." Ethan's lips curved upward instinctively.

"Ethan!"

David crawled out from the passenger side.

His forehead had been sliced open. Blood ran down to his eyebrows.

He raised his hand and wiped it away, his voice hoarse.

"I was just wondering where to find you. Didn't expect you to deliver yourself to me!"

Ethan looked at him coldly. "David, the police are already on their way."

"So what if they are?" David laughed. "Ethan, we've worked together for so long, and you still haven't won over Lucinda or caused Leopold any real trouble."

"I've seen useless people before, but I've never seen anyone as pathetic as you!"

Ethan swept him with a cold glance. "You're a loser. What right do you have to judge me?"

"You've gone too far!"

David pulled a folding knife from his jacket, his face full of murderous intent as he lunged forward.

"Then I'll deal with you first, and then I'll take care of Leopold!"

Neither Leopold nor I had expected it to turn into a dog-eat-dog fight.

And with knives, no less!

"Should we stop them?" I asked Leopold quietly. "After all, he just saved you."

Leopold scoffed coldly. "No need. Let's go. Teddy's car will be here soon."

I pushed down the emotions in my chest and helped him back away.

Ethan was young, but he was badly injured.

David relied on brute force, throwing himself at Ethan like a madman.

The two grappled on the ground.

A pained groan rang out.

I instinctively looked over.

David had Ethan pinned to the ground, and David's folding knife was buried in Ethan's side.

Blood gushed out instantly.

I gasped and covered my mouth.

Leopold's jawline tensed. He let go of my hand.

"Wait here for me."

He strode over.

Just as David raised the knife to stab Ethan again, Leopold kicked him hard in the ribs.

"Ah—" David cried out in pain and collapsed sideways.

When he realized it was Leopold who'd hit him, he snarled through gritted teeth, "Leopold, you dare hit me! I'm your uncle! Aren't you afraid of divine retribution?"

Leopold looked down at him.

"You should be grateful you're my uncle. Otherwise, what I just kicked wouldn't have been your ribs—it would've been your neck."

David's face flushed red with rage, his eyes filled with bone-deep hatred.

"Leopold, I really regret not getting rid of you when you were a child."

"If I'd known you'd turn out like this, I should've had you killed abroad while you were studying!"

Leopold's expression didn't change.

But I knew that because his parents had died young, he'd always valued family.

Otherwise, with his methods, David wouldn't have lived this long.

I walked over and stood in front of Leopold. "David, it's not that you showed Leopold mercy. It's that you were never a match for him from the start."

"Donovan passed over you and gave the inheritance to Leopold because he knew only Leopold could bring hope to the Percy Group."

"And you? You would only drag the Percy Group into the abyss."

David's eyes went red with fury. "The Percy family's business is none of your concern, outsider!"

"And you say I'm not qualified to be mentioned in the same breath as Leopold? Have you forgotten? I nearly destroyed your family. If Leopold hadn't interfered, your family would've gone bankrupt already!"

Just then, Teddy arrived with his men.

"Mr. Percy."

They'd barely taken their positions when the wail of police sirens grew closer.

David's expression changed sharply. Ignoring the pain, he scrambled to his feet and ran.

"Stop!" Ethan clutched his side tightly and struggled to stand, trying to chase after him.

He'd barely taken a step when he collapsed heavily to the ground.

"Bang!"

A gunshot tore through the night sky.

A spray of blood erupted from David's thigh as he ran. He pitched forward.

He slammed hard into the asphalt.

The veins in his neck bulged from the pain. He glared at Ethan with hatred.

Ethan held a gun in his hand. Smoke still curled from the barrel.

"David, you have to face legal consequences."

I couldn't help tugging at the corner of my mouth.

Hearing that line from him was almost laughable.

Ethan had unlawfully detained people, harmed innocent lives, concealed paternity, and manipulated the business market behind the scenes...

Which of the things he'd done didn't deserve legal consequences?

"Cindy, I..."

Ethan looked at me, about to say something, but was interrupted by David on the ground.

"Ethan, you're pathetic. Can't keep a woman, so you resort to playing the victim to win her sympathy. For a man to stoop this low—what a joke!"

Ethan's face turned deathly pale.

He looked at me in panic and shook his head lightly. "I didn't..."

"It doesn't matter anymore." My tone was calm. "Ethan, our connection ends here. Let's not see each other again."

"Cindy, don't do this to me." Ethan stumbled toward me.

Leopold stepped forward and blocked him. "Stop. My fiancée doesn't want to see you. Don't harass her."

Ethan's eyes filled with sorrow. "Cindy, I did all of this just so you'd look at me. I can promise you—I won't force you anymore. I won't make you stay. Just don't be so heartless..."

"It's too late." I cut him off. "You've hidden too much from me. I've always tried to overlook it out of gratitude for you raising Orion and helping me all these years."

"But you broke my patience again and again. You overturned everything I thought I knew about you. I really can't see you clearly anymore."

"And you hurt Orion. You crossed my line."

"I can change!" Ethan quickly responded. "Everything you said—I'll change it all."

"No need." I looked at him coldly. "Everything you've done comes with a price."

The police stopped not far away.

Ambulances came with them.

Seeing the scene, the officers froze for a moment before immediately arresting David.

The paramedics, seeing that the injured person was Ethan, rushed to lift him onto a stretcher.

They tried to persuade Leopold to go to the hospital too, but he refused.

"It's just a minor scrape on my calf. Nothing else is wrong."

The doctor wasn't convinced. He said Leopold's wound might worsen if he boarded a plane.

I was a little worried. "Should we go to the hospital?"

"I'm really fine. Besides, Brady's there. If anything happens, he'll handle it. We need to hurry and meet up with them."

Orion still hadn't woken up. We were racing against time. We really couldn't delay.

"Then promise me that the moment we get to the airport, you'll let Brady check you. Then we'll decide whether to board the plane right away."

Orion's life hung in the balance. I couldn't bear even the slightest risk of losing him.
