Chapter 107
Leopold and I headed back upstairs together.
The moment I reached the doorway, I saw Sophia sitting in the chair beside the bed, her face deathly pale.
Sophia spotted me too, a flash of obvious fury crossing her eyes.
But with everyone present, she swallowed it down.
Alicia shot me a disapproving glance before turning to Brady.
"Everyone's here. Make the announcement."
Brady looked at Leopold with a complicated expression before opening the sealed paternity report.
"The results are here. Perhaps it's better if Mr. Donovan Percy and Mrs. Percy review them personally."
I had a bad feeling about this.
Alicia snatched the report and tore it open eagerly, pulling out the results to examine them alongside Donovan.
When they saw the results, both their expressions shifted.
Donovan's eyes filled with disappointment.
But Alicia smiled faintly. "I knew this child was Percy family blood."
Hearing this news, my heart seized painfully, my mind going blank.
Sophia's baby really was Leopold's!
And just downstairs, he'd sworn up and down the child wasn't his!
"Impossible!" Leopold grabbed the report, scrutinizing every detail before glaring at Brady. "This report is wrong!"
Brady let out a heavy sigh. "I was there the entire time, watched this report come out with my own eyes. There's nothing wrong with it."
"Leo." Sophia's voice came out weak and pale. "This baby really is yours. I love you so much—I would never lie about something like this."
"Besides, you know what happened that night. I gave you everything. How could I bear to deceive you?"
I stumbled back two steps, my back hitting the door.
Afraid of making noise, I quickly steadied it.
Only after that could I breathe again.
Though I'd kept saying I didn't trust Leopold, when he'd denied the child again and again, I'd still harbored a tiny sliver of hope.
Now the results just proved everyone else right.
Once again, I was the one he'd deceived.
"Absolutely impossible!" Leopold was still arguing, refusing to acknowledge it.
Alicia scolded him angrily. "Leo, denial won't change anything. This paternity report proves Sophia's baby is yours."
"Sophia may not have Lucinda's family background, but her feelings for you are just as real. You need to wake up and stop being so stubborn!"
Leopold's gaze slid to me.
I gave him a mocking smile. "Mrs. Percy's right. You should wake up."
Leopold's expression turned thunderous. He whipped around and grabbed Sophia's hand viciously, demanding harshly.
"Nothing happened between us that night. Did you magically impregnate yourself?!"
Sophia looked utterly innocent. "Leo, you're hurting me. I'm not lying."
"This baby is yours. I haven't been with any other man!"
"You're still lying!" Leopold grew more violent. "If there's no other man, how did you end up pregnant with this bastard?"
His appearance terrified Sophia into sobbing and shaking her head.
Fearing he'd hurt Sophia, Alicia quickly intervened. "You rotten thing, let go of Sophia right now!"
Donovan panicked too, coughing as he tried to stop him.
"Leo, stand down!"
Leopold paid no attention, hell-bent on forcing Sophia to tell the truth.
Even Brady couldn't watch anymore.
"Leo, calm down."
Forcibly separated from Sophia, Leopold finally came back to himself.
But he crumpled the report into a ball, his voice savage. "This report is absolutely wrong. We're doing another test. I'm overseeing the whole thing myself this time!"
"Ridiculous!" Donovan couldn't take it anymore. "This baby isn't even a month along. How can it withstand this kind of trauma?"
For once, Alicia was on the same page. "Exactly. I was worried you wouldn't accept the results, which is why I had Brady supervise the entire process."
"No one could fake anything under his watch. These results are real."
But Leopold was resolute. "I know what I did. I'm telling you this child isn't mine, so it absolutely isn't mine."
Seeing his continued refusal to acknowledge the child, Alicia panted with rage.
Sophia dissolved into tears.
"Leo, I know you haven't let go of Lucinda. I don't blame you. Just being with you makes me happy."
"This baby is the precious gift I've been hoping for, your surprise to me. You can dislike me, you can trample my feelings, but the baby is innocent."
"How can you bear not to acknowledge it?"
Leopold was calmer than before. Rather than fixating on the report, he questioned Brady.
"You're certain this report never left your sight from start to finish?"
Brady nodded. "Except for the analysis inside the lab, I was present the entire time."
Leopold's eyes darkened. "Then the problem might be in the lab."
But Brady denied his theory. "Impossible. The lab personnel are all highly qualified experts hired by the hospital. Clean backgrounds, outstanding character."
"Plus, they had no idea whose samples they were testing. There's no way they could tamper with anything."
Leopold dug in his heels. "It has to be them. If you don't believe me, call them all in here."
Brady frowned in displeasure. "Leo, you're questioning our hospital's reputation!"
This hospital represented Silverlight City's highest medical standards with an excellent reputation. Nothing unpleasant had ever occurred here.
Leopold's suspicions were inviting mass outrage.
I didn't want to listen anymore. "Leopold, mouths can lie, but data doesn't."
"Enough."
"Keep this up, and the Percy Group is going to face serious trouble."
Leopold's furious body went rigid. "You don't believe me either?"
I smiled bitterly. "This is reality. Believe it or don't—the result won't change."
Leopold shoved Brady aside and strode to my side, his voice hoarse. "But the result itself is fake. I didn't sleep with her."
His eyes were so intense, he didn't look like he was lying.
My heart began wavering between belief and disbelief.
From what I knew of him, he wouldn't bother lying about this.
But Sophia's pregnancy was also a fact.
Counting back the timeline, it did match up with that night.
No matter how I looked at it, Leopold had to be lying.
"Sophia!"
"What are you doing? Get down from there!"
Suddenly, Alicia cried out in alarm.
I immediately looked over to see that Sophia had already climbed onto the windowsill, one hand clutching her belly, crying helplessly.
"Leo, if you won't acknowledge this child, you're questioning my virtue, calling this baby a bastard from my affair with another man."
"I can't let this child be born carrying such a heavy burden. Since you won't acknowledge it, I might as well take it out of this world right now!"
She made as if to jump.
Brady lunged and grabbed her. "Sophia, you need to calm down, too! Don't do anything rash!"
Alicia, shocked beyond measure, collapsed onto the bed.
"Alicia!" Donovan was terrified, rushing to catch her.
The entire hospital room descended into chaos!
