Chapter 51
Chapter 51
I was engulfed in a deep sleep, my mind still reeling from the events of the day. But suddenly, I felt a cold hand on my head, sending shivers down my spine. I tried to brush it off, thinking it was just a dream, but the hand remained, its chill seeping into my skin.
I slowly opened my eyes, groggily taking in my surroundings. And then I saw him. Xavier was squatting beside me, his eyes fixed on mine, his hand on my forehead.
My heart skipped a beat as I sat up with a start, my mind racing. "Xavier! What are you doing here? How did you...?"
He smiled weakly, his eyes still sunken from the ordeal. "I wanted to see you," he said, his voice low and husky. "I couldn't sleep, and my personal assistant told me you were exhausted. I had to make sure you were okay."
I stared at him, my brain still foggy from sleep. "But...but you're supposed to be in the hospital or at the office!"
Xavier chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I checked myself out. I couldn't bear the thought of being away from you any longer."
My heart swelled with emotion as I gazed at him, my eyes welling up with tears. "Xavier, I was so worried about you!"
He leaned in, his lips brushing against my forehead. "I'm sorry, babe. I didn't mean to scare you. I promise I'll be more careful from now on."
I wrapped my arms around him, holding him close as tears streamed down my face. "Just don't ever leave me again," I whispered, my voice trembling.
Xavier held me tight, his grip warm and reassuring. "I won't, baby girl. I promise. I'll always be here for you."
I quickly stood up, my eyes scanning Xavier's body from head to toe. He was standing in front of me, a bit pale, but otherwise seemed okay. I couldn't help but check for any signs of injury or distress.
"Xavier, how's your body?" I asked, my voice filled with concern. "Are you in any pain? Do you have any bruises or injuries?"
Xavier smiled weakly and nodded. "I'm okay, babe. Just a bit sore from the fall. But I'll be fine."
I wasn't convinced. I took a step closer to him, my eyes scanning his body again. "You fell too? Let me see," I said, my voice firm but gentle.
Xavier hesitated for a moment, then nodded and lifted his shirt. I gasped as I saw the bruise on his side, just above his hip. It was a deep purple and looked painful.
"Xavier, this looks serious," I said, my voice filled with worry. "You should be in the hospital, not standing here with me."
Xavier shook his head. "I'm fine, babe. Really. I just need to rest and take it easy for a while."
I wasn't convinced, but I knew Xavier was stubborn. I would just have to keep an eye on him and make sure he took care of himself.
"Xavier, are you hungry? Would you like to eat something?" I asked, trying to distract myself from the bruise on his side.
Xavier nodded, his eyes locking onto mine. "Yes, I am hungry. But more than that, I want to talk to you about what happened yesterday and this morning."
My heart skipped a beat as he knelt before me, his eyes filled with remorse.
"Lilith, I am so sorry for what I said and did yesterday. I was completely out of line, and I know I hurt you deeply. And this morning, I was wrong to take it out on you again. Can you ever forgive me?"
I felt a lump form in my throat as I looked at him, my heart aching with emotion. "Xavier, I...I don't know what to say. I was so hurt by what you said, and this morning was just...ugh."
Xavier nodded, his eyes never leaving mine. "I know, babe. And I don't blame you one bit. I was a jerk, and I don't deserve your forgiveness. But I promise to make it up to you, to prove to you that I love and cherish you, no matter what."
Tears streamed down my face as I looked at him, my heart overflowing with emotion. "Xavier, I love you too. And I forgive you. But please, never ignore me like that again. It hurt me so much."
Xavier nodded, his eyes shining with tears. "I promise, babe. Never again. I swear it on my life."
"Xavier, it's not just your fault," I said, my voice shaking. "I'm sorry too. I've been shutting you off for so long, not letting you in. I was afraid of getting hurt, but I realize now that I was wrong."
Xavier's eyes filled with tears. "Lilith, no, it's not your fault. I should have been more understanding, more patient. I shouldn't have lashed out at you like that."
I took a step closer to him, my heart aching. "But I pushed you away, Xavier. I didn't let you in. I was so focused on my own pain that I didn't see yours."
Xavier shook his head, his voice cracking. "You were right to protect yourself, Lilith. I shouldn't have behaved that way towards you. I'm the one who's sorry."
I felt a lump form in my throat as I looked at him, my eyes welling up with tears. "We're both sorry, Xavier. We both made mistakes. But I want us to move forward, together."
Xavier nodded, his eyes shining with tears. "Me too, babe. Me too."
As we stood there, Xavier's eyes locked onto mine, and he leaned in, his lips brushing against mine in a soft, gentle kiss. I felt a spark of electricity run through my body, and I melted into his embrace, our lips moving in perfect sync.
But just as I was getting lost in the moment, Xavier pulled back, his brow furrowed in concern. "Babe, your head is hot," he said, his voice laced with worry.
I nodded, my hand instinctively reaching up to touch my forehead. "I've been having headaches since morning," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper.
Xavier's eyes widened in concern. "We need to get you to a doctor," he said, his voice firm and decisive.
"There's no need for that. All I need is some rest and painkillers and I'll be fine." I flashed a smile.
I nodded, feeling a wave of relief wash over me. Maybe finally, we could get some answers. Maybe finally, we could find a way to make me better.
Xavier quickly pulled out his phone and dialed a number, his eyes never leaving mine. "Please bring some tea to my room and some food." he said, his voice low and gentle. "And make sure it's extra sweet."
He hung up the phone and turned to me, his eyes filled with concern. "I'm going to get you some painkillers," he said, getting up from the couch. "I'll be right back."
He returned with a small bottle of pills and a glass of water. "Here, take these," he said, his voice soft. "They'll help with the headache."
I took the pills from him, my hand brushing against his. "Thank you," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
Xavier smiled and handed me the glass of water. "Drink this," he said. "And try to relax. The maids will be here with some food soon."
I nodded, taking a sip of the water. As I swallowed the pills, I felt a sense of gratitude towards Xavier. He was taking care of me, making sure I was okay. And in that moment, I knew that I loved him, truly and deeply.
The maids brought in some food and I ate little from it even though Xavier forced me to eat more. I have up on the fifth spoon as my head hurts a lot.
I finally lay in the bed feeling a sense of relief wash over me as the painkillers started to take effect. "Xavier, come lie beside me," I said, my voice soft and tired.
Xavier smiled and stretched out beside me, his long body wrapping around mine. "You can't do without me, can you?" he joked, his eyes sparkling with amusement.
I rolled my eyes, a small smile playing on my lips. "It's the other way around, Xavier. You're the one who can't do without me."
Xavier chuckled, his chest vibrating against my back. "Oh, really? And why's that?"
I snuggled deeper into his embrace, feeling safe and protected. "Because I'm the one who keeps you in line, that's why."
Xavier laughed, his breath tickling my ear. "I think it's the other way around, my love. I'm the one who keeps you from getting into trouble."
I smiled, feeling a sense of contentment wash over me. Maybe we were both right. Maybe we needed each other to keep ourselves in balance.
I closed my eyes, trying to drift off to sleep, but my mind was racing. I hadn't fulfilled my part of the deal with Marco yet, and I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that settled in my stomach.
"Xavier?" I whispered, trying to strike up a conversation.
"Hmm?" he replied, his voice low and sleepy.
"There's something important we have to discuss." I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
Xavier's arms tightened around me. "Shh, don't worry about it now. You can deal with it in the morning."
"Babe, I'm serious. It's really important ?" I asked, my anxiety spiking.
Xavier's hand gently covered my mouth. "Hush, Lilith. Sleep now. We'll talk about it in the morning."
I tried to protest, but Xavier's warmth and comfort enveloped me, and my eyelids grew heavy. I knew I had to deal with Marco eventually, but for now, I just wanted to rest.
As I drifted off to sleep, Xavier's gentle whisper echoed in my ear. "Everything will be okay, my love. I promise."
I tried again, my voice barely above a whisper. "Xavier, I'm serious. I need something important from you."
But Xavier just pulled me closer, his lips brushing against my ear. "Shh, babe. Sleep now. We'll talk about it in the morning."
I tried to protest, but Xavier's kiss silenced me. His lips moved from my ear to my cheek, and then to my lips, gentle and soft. I felt my resistance melting away, my worries forgotten in the warmth of his embrace.
"Sleep, my love," he whispered, his breath tickling my lips. "Everything will be okay."
I tried to speak again, but my words were lost in the gentle pressure of his kiss. My eyelids grew heavy, and I felt myself drifting off to sleep, surrounded by Xavier's warmth and love.
As I fell asleep, I heard Xavier's soft whisper in my ear. "I love you, Lilith. Sleep tight, my love."
As I drifted off to sleep, I felt Xavier's arms slowly release me, his warmth and comfort slipping away. I tried to reach out, to grab onto him, but my limbs felt heavy, my body too tired to respond. I wanted to ask him why he was leaving, where he was going, but my voice was trapped in my throat, unable to escape.
A pang of loneliness shot through me, but it was quickly overtaken by exhaustion. I couldn't fight it anymore, my eyelids drooping, my breathing slowing. I felt myself being pulled into the darkness of sleep, Xavier's gentle whisper echoing in my mind. "Sleep tight, my love."
As I slipped away, I felt a sense of surrender, my body and mind giving in to the fatigue. I was too tired to worry, too tired to care. All I could do was let go, and let sleep take me away.
My last thought was of Xavier, his smile, his eyes, his warm embrace. I felt safe with him, loved and protected. And as I drifted off into the unknown, I knew that he would be there when I woke up, his arms open wide, ready to hold me close once again.
With a soft sigh, I let go, and fell into the darkness, surrounded by the gentle echoes of Xavier's love.
