Chapter 68 Sophia's Condition Seems a Bit Strange
The thought of Sophia rejecting him made Benjamin's heart ache sharply.
Benjamin lowered his eyes, his fingertips gently brushing over his chest, a dark and unreadable glint passing through his gaze.
As soon as Chase stepped into the CEO's office, he was hit by an overwhelming chill.
He shivered instinctively and quickly walked up to the desk. "Mr. White, here's all the info on Zander. It's all in here. There's also..."
Chase glanced at Benjamin's stern face, hesitating for a moment, unsure if he should continue.
Benjamin lifted his eyes, narrowing them slightly, a cold glare shooting towards Chase. "What else?"
"And, well, it seems like there was once a... connection between Zander and Mrs. White..."
Before Chase could finish, Benjamin slammed the folder shut.
The air around him grew so cold and oppressive that it was hard to breathe.
Chase was used to Benjamin's emotionless demeanor and rarely saw such a strong reaction from him.
But then again, considering it involved Sophia, it made sense.
No wonder Benjamin reacted so strongly; it was all a misunderstanding!
"Mr. White, please don't worry. I wasn't finished! The Brown family saved the Martinez family years ago, so the Martinez family promised a marriage in return. So Mrs. White and Zander were once engaged."
Seeing Benjamin's expression grow darker, Chase quickly added, "But after Mrs. White went missing, the engagement was passed to Isabella. And now that Mrs. White has cut ties with the Brown family, the engagement no longer concerns her!"
Chase hurriedly explained the rest.
Benjamin's imposing aura receded, and he shot Chase a cold look. "Couldn't you have said that sooner?"
Chase couldn't help but chuckle bitterly.
He wanted to explain, but Benjamin didn't give him the chance!
He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, thinking that dealing with a possessive man like Benjamin, Sophia's fate was uncertain.
Benjamin retracted his gaze coldly, his voice dripping with disdain, "If you ever speak halfway again, watch your year-end bonus."
Chase immediately stood up straight, assuring Benjamin, "Mr. White, I understand! Please don't dock my bonus again."
His year-end bonus was already running low!
Benjamin gave him a sidelong glance, "If you don't want your bonus docked, do more and talk less!"
Chase's personality was the complete opposite of Eldon's; they were like two extremes.
Eldon was calm and cold, while Chase was exceptionally cheerful.
If it weren't for Chase's strong work abilities, Benjamin wouldn't tolerate such a chatterbox around him.
It was too noisy.
Benjamin rubbed his temples, his gaze suddenly pausing on the word "engagement."
Even though he knew Sophia didn't like Zander, seeing the engagement still made Benjamin's heart ache inexplicably.
He pressed his thin lips together, a dark glint flashing in his eyes.
A strange emotion rose from his heart, leaving Benjamin somewhat at a loss.
"Mr. White, are you okay?" Chase, noticing Benjamin's change in mood, quickly asked with concern.
Benjamin concealed the emotion in his eyes, slowly shaking his head. "It's nothing. Go order a dress for Sophia, the most beautiful and expensive one that will outshine everyone."
"Got it!" Chase's excitement was palpable as he left the office.
In a few days, Benjamin was taking Sophia to an engagement party and even planned to help her reclaim all the debts the Brown family owed her.
There would be quite a show to watch!
After Chase left, Benjamin looked down at the information, a cold smile creeping onto his face.
Engagement? Zander wasn't worthy!
He stood up, walked to the shredder, and without hesitation, tossed the documents in.
Soon, the once complete papers were reduced to a pile of shreds.
Benjamin's cold eyes swept over them before he turned away.
Chase was already rubbing his hands together in anticipation.
Late that night, Benjamin returned home from work to find Sophia still sleeping.
He quickly touched her forehead with the back of his hand, relieved to find she didn't have a fever.
"Did Sophia wake up at all?" Benjamin asked Emma in a low voice.
Emma shook her head quickly, "Mrs. White has been sleeping since you brought her back."
"You can leave now." Benjamin pressed his thin lips together, his gaze fixed on Sophia, filled with worry.
Emma hesitated for a moment before saying, "Mr. White, Mrs. White's condition seems a bit unusual. Maybe you should have Mr. Alaric White check on her?"
Ever since Emma's bonus doubled for praising Sophia, her fondness for her had grown immensely.
After spending more time with Sophia, Emma realized she wasn't as crude and unrefined as people said.
Instead, Sophia had an ethereal quality, untouched by the mundane world.
Her every move exuded grace and good upbringing.
Seeing Sophia being carried home by Benjamin today, Emma had been worried all day.
Benjamin held Sophia's hand, responding softly, "When Alaric returns, have him come here."
Emma nodded and quickly left the master bedroom.
In the room, Benjamin tightly held Sophia's delicate hand, his lips pressed into a thin line.
"I'm sorry for making you suffer." He gently kissed the back of her hand, his eyes filled with tenderness.
Benjamin never thought of himself as someone who could be easily softened.
But since meeting the delicate and soft Sophia, he felt like he had changed.
His life, once filled with gray, now had color because of Sophia.
In her sleep, Sophia suddenly whimpered, her brows furrowing slightly as she slowly opened her eyes.
Still groggy from sleep, her eyes were misty, adding to her dreamy appearance.
"Did you sleep well?" Benjamin chuckled, pinching her soft cheek.
"What are you doing?" Sophia's voice was husky from sleep, sounding almost like a pout.
"If you didn't wake up soon, I was going to call the doctor."
Seeing Sophia awake, Benjamin's worry dissipated.
He quickly leaned down, pressing the back of his hand to her forehead again to check her temperature.
Finding it normal, he finally relaxed.
When Sophia opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was Benjamin's handsome face up close.
His eyes were filled with worry, and his lips were tightly pressed together.
Sophia slowly reached out from under the covers, wrapping her arms around Benjamin's neck. "Honey, I missed you!"
"Liar!" Benjamin looked at Sophia, but couldn't help the slight smile tugging at his lips.
