Chapter 67 Benjamin Is Not Important
"What? The Browns are involved too? They have no shame, always giving Sophia a hard time, and she's just an orphan!"
The White family initially got interested in the Browns because Sophia was stunningly beautiful and had a straightforward background.
No one expected Benjamin to care so much about Sophia.
But Preston was pretty happy with how things turned out.
Sophia had put up with a lot from the Browns before, but even after cutting ties, they wouldn't leave her alone!
Preston's voice turned icy, "We can't let this slide. If we do, people will think the White family is a pushover!"
Benjamin scoffed lightly, his face stern, "Grandpa, I've got this. Don't worry."
He would never let anyone who hurt Sophia get away with it!
As Benjamin was figuring out how to handle the Browns, Preston suddenly let out a surprised shout.
Benjamin turned to see Preston's face darken with anger as he glared at the tablet screen in front of him.
"Benjamin, come look at this! Who is this guy? Why are they saying our Sophia likes him?"
Benjamin's eyes landed on the screen, and he froze.
On the screen, Isabella was clinging tightly to a young man's arm, her face full of sweet, proud expressions.
She looked at Sophia with a smug and provocative gaze, as if showing off something. "Sophia, come home. Mom and Dad are all worried sick about you! Mom's so upset, she's fallen ill because you ran away just to get Zander's attention…"
Isabella's sickly sweet, fake voice came through the video, leaving Benjamin silent and stunned.
Preston, holding the tablet, angrily scolded, "What a load of crap! Our Sophia has great taste. No way she'd fall for a guy like that!"
He kept glancing at Benjamin, trying to gauge his reaction.
Seeing Benjamin expressionless, lips tightly pressed together, Preston couldn't figure out what he was thinking.
Worried this might cause a rift between Benjamin and Sophia, Preston quickly added, "This is all just that woman's one-sided story. Sophia is your wife now, you two are the closest. Benjamin, don't believe a word of this!"
"I know. Sophia told me I'm the one she loves most." Benjamin calmly looked away, as if he hadn't taken the video conversation to heart.
Somehow, Preston sensed a hint of pride in Benjamin's tone.
Shaking his head helplessly, Preston pointed at the woman in the video, "That must be Isabella, right? She's nothing special! She's nowhere near as good as our Sophia. I don't know what's wrong with the Browns, ignoring their own daughter to dote on someone like her."
Having been in the business world for so many years, Preston could easily see through Isabella's scheming nature.
And despite her young age, Isabella spoke with such insinuation, constantly belittling Sophia.
Benjamin sneered, rubbing his fingers thoughtfully, "In a couple of days, Zander and Isabella are having their engagement party. I got an invitation from the Martinez family this morning. Sophia wants me to take her."
Preston replied, "I won't interfere with you youngsters, but just remember to protect Sophia. If she gets hurt, I won't forgive you!"
In Preston's heart, Sophia's status had already far surpassed Benjamin's.
Benjamin wasn't as important as Sophia!
Seeing how much Preston favored Sophia, Benjamin sighed helplessly, "Grandpa, am I even your real grandson?"
"You're picked out of the trash!" Preston shot back without hesitation.
Back in the day, Preston had always wanted a daughter.
But unfortunately, his wife's health was poor, and she never got pregnant again.
This became Preston's lifelong regret.
Later, when his son got married, both daughters-in-law were a handful.
Finally, Celestia was born, but she turned out to be wild and unruly, constantly causing trouble and never giving anyone peace of mind.
Gradually, Preston stopped expecting anything.
Until Sophia appeared, and Preston finally understood how adorable a daughter could be.
He often sighed, thinking how wonderful it would have been to have a daughter.
Leaving the study, Benjamin went straight to the bedroom.
Inside, Sophia was still sound asleep.
As soon as he entered the room, he saw a small lump on the bed.
Sophia was tightly wrapped in the quilt, curled up into a small ball, sleeping restlessly, her brow furrowed.
Benjamin sat on the edge of the bed, quietly watching Sophia's sleeping face.
He reached out with his cool fingertips, gently smoothing Sophia's furrowed brow.
In her sleep, Sophia seemed to feel something on her face and unconsciously moved, burrowing further into the quilt.
She was completely wrapped up, with only her smooth, full forehead exposed.
Benjamin smiled helplessly, pulling back the quilt to reveal Sophia's small face.
"Frowning even in your sleep, did you dream about something unhappy?" Benjamin murmured.
"Sophia... don't worry, I won't let anyone who hurt you get away with it."
Benjamin leaned down slowly, planting a soft kiss on her smooth, full forehead.
The kiss was incredibly tender and gentle.
Benjamin watched Sophia for a long time before leaving quietly.
Back at the company, Benjamin instructed Chase to investigate Zander.
Chase, a bit puzzled, asked, "Mr. White, what exactly do you want me to look into?"
Benjamin paused, his expression turning icy, "Everything."
He wanted to see what this man, who had once been engaged to Sophia, had that made him think he was better.
Sometimes, a man's competitive spirit was easily ignited.
Chase stood there, pondering for a moment, then turned and walked in the opposite direction.
Soon, Chase returned with the gathered information.
In the office, Benjamin was coldly dealing with documents, his mind filled with the conversation from the video.
Isabella was so sure that Sophia liked Zander, even asserting that Sophia went to Stellar University for him.
There was no way his Sophia would like someone who was inferior to him in every way and extremely arrogant.
It wasn't that Benjamin was overly confident, but in terms of background, power, status, or appearance, Zander couldn't compare to him at all.
Benjamin lowered his gaze, a bitter smile forming on his lips.
The only thing he couldn't compare with Zander was his own broken body.
Would his Sophia despise him for that?
