Chapter 58 Bloodsucking Worm
Isabella heard the mocking comments, and a satisfied smile danced in her eyes.
In a corner where no one was looking, she smirked provocatively at Sophia.
So what if Sophia became Benjamin's wife?
She was still getting pushed around by Isabella.
And Isabella wasn't worried about any backlash from Sophia.
Because Sophia was powerless now, while Isabella had the entire Brown family backing her up!
However, these petty taunts wouldn't harm Sophia at all.
She just felt a bit helpless.
Why did the Browns always resort to this tactic?
Flynn did it.
Isabella did it too.
Sophia didn't want to get tangled up with Isabella any further, so she turned to leave.
But Isabella called out to her again. "Sophia, I know you're mad at me, but please come home. Don't make Mom worry anymore."
Sophia paused, finding it somewhat amusing. "Weren't you the one who couldn't wait for me to leave the Brown family?"
"I... I didn't." Isabella's face turned sour, looking like she had been severely bullied, yet stubbornly tilting her head to gaze at Sophia.
This look drew pity from countless men present, making them want to comfort Isabella in their arms.
"Sophia, that's enough! Isabella is kindly asking you to come home, and you treat her like this?"
A voice filled with anger suddenly came from the crowd.
A handsome, tall man stepped out from the crowd and stood in front of Sophia.
He wrapped his arm around the quietly sobbing Isabella and glared at Sophia with hostility.
This man was none other than Isabella's fiancé, Zander Martinez.
Sophia's lips curved slightly, and the sunlight fell on her delicate face, giving her a soft glow.
Her face was stunningly beautiful, causing many people present to be momentarily dazzled.
"Advising me to go home? It seems your relationship with Isabella isn't that strong. Didn't she tell you about the big issue in the Brown family?" Sophia crossed her arms, her slender figure standing straight in front of them, her back unyielding.
Her expression was clear and calm, without a hint of guilt or evasion.
Zander was taken aback and instinctively looked down at Isabella in his arms.
Seeing this, Isabella panicked.
She quickly choked out, "Zander, I didn't intentionally keep it from you. Mom and Dad said it wouldn't be good if word got out, because what she did was too outrageous."
With one sentence, Isabella twisted the truth, changing the Brown family's coercion of Sophia into her voluntary departure.
She was certain that Sophia, an orphan with no support, wouldn't dare speak out.
Zander frowned, a trace of doubt in his eyes, but ultimately chose to believe Isabella.
His gaze toward Sophia suddenly held more disdain. "Sophia, even if you run away from home, I wouldn't give you a second glance! My heart belongs to Isabella alone, so give up!"
Sophia laughed at his words.
There were truly people this self-absorbed in the world.
"Zander, before you say that, maybe you should go home and look in the mirror." Sophia scoffed, her eyes full of contempt as she looked at Zander.
"What do you mean?" Zander's brows furrowed, a hint of confusion on his face.
"Just that you should have some self-awareness. A self-absorbed, narcissistic man like you isn't my type."
"You!" Zander's face flushed with anger, his usually calm demeanor now twisted with rage.
"Sophia, I know you're upset that Zander chose me, but you shouldn't talk about him like that!" Isabella suddenly broke free from Zander's embrace and stood protectively in front of him.
Zander looked at Isabella with a mix of emotions, feeling a wave of indescribable sentiment.
Seeing Isabella's face, which showed fear yet determination to protect him, Sophia's lips curved slightly, a hint of mischief in her eyes. "You love picking up trash so much? Fine, take it. It's not the first time you've taken something I discarded."
Isabella's face instantly contorted with anger.
When did Sophia become so sharp-tongued? Calling Zander and the Brown family trash!
Isabella saw Zander's unpleasant expression and knew things were not looking good.
Her mind raced, and she suddenly had an idea. "Sophia, if Mom and Dad knew you were being kept by a man in his forties just to spite us, they'd be heartbroken. If you need money, I can take on more jobs to support you."
Isabella wiped away nonexistent tears from the corners of her eyes.
In a place where no one noticed, the corners of her lips curled slightly, the smile fleeting.
Want to fight her?
Sophia was still too green.
This statement caused another uproar among the crowd.
Insults and mockery reached Sophia's ears.
"What? She got herself a sugar daddy?"
"She's already fallen so low, and now she wants her sister to support her? Shameless!"
"Yeah, Isabella, don't bother with her. People like that can't be helped!"
Isabella's eyes reddened, biting her lip, and waved her hand. "It's not like that. Don't say that about Sophia! She's my sister, and it's my duty to support her!"
Sophia sighed softly.
Despite everyone's harsh words, she stood tall and straight.
In the sunlight, Sophia's delicate face appeared exceptionally beautiful, with a touch of ethereal grace.
It made people momentarily dazed.
Isabella looked at that flawless face and felt a surge of hatred.
If it weren't for the crowd, she would have torn apart that attractive face.
But on second thought, she felt much better.
She wanted to see if the White family would still want Sophia after her reputation was ruined.
The Brown family had already secured funding from the White family, so Isabella no longer had to worry.
She lifted her chin, her eyes filled with satisfaction.
Sophia shook her head. Why did people always provoke her?
Sophia glanced at Zander.
Feeling Sophia's gaze, Zander's eyes flashed with disgust.
Sophia said, "Since you claim you're supporting me financially, why don't you tell me how much you've given? How many times? And in what way?"
Isabella's hand, which was wiping away tears, suddenly froze, a trace of panic flashing in her eyes. "I... I don't remember. Every month, though..."
Sophia scoffed, "Then there should be transaction records. Why not show them?"
Facing Sophia's cold gaze, Isabella nervously clenched her fists.
At that moment, Zander suddenly spoke, "Sophia, why do you have to be so aggressive?"
Sophia laughed helplessly, "Isabella, you said you transfer money to me every month, but I don't recall receiving any. Did you send it to the wrong account? This amount must be significant, so I'm helping you recover the money."
