Chapter 514 Unwillingness
Sophia frowned, her expression turning icy as she asked, "If we keep delaying and the patient's condition worsens, how exactly do you expect the hospital to take responsibility for that?”
The hospital was only responsible for treating patients. Nothing more, nothing less.
If a life slipped away because the patient’s own family caused chaos and held up emergency treatment, that would be on them, not the hospital.
She paused for a brief moment before adding, “We have surveillance cameras throughout the building. I suggest you think carefully about your behavior, or I’ll call the police.”
As she spoke, she pulled out her phone from her pocket, her movement calm and deliberate.
Maybe it was the sharp chill in her eyes, or maybe the threat of police involvement finally registered, but Francis’s three children instantly fell silent. Their arrogance folded into uneasy quiet.
They could only watch helplessly as Sophia strode toward the operating room, resentment simmering in their eyes.
Where did this woman come from?
How could she be so bold?
And why couldn’t Francis have just died earlier? Then none of this would be happening.
Sophia ignored every harsh word muttered behind her and stepped quickly into the operating room.
Albert followed close behind, handing her a fresh white coat. His voice trembled with urgency as he said, “Sophia, Francis is in your hands now. You must save him.”
Francis was Harmony Hospital's most respected doctor. His medical contributions and the achievements of his research team had pushed Novaria’s medical field to new heights.
He had saved countless lives over the years, children, adults, elderly patients, it didn’t matter who. He never turned anyone away.
A man like him deserved a long life, not to lie on an operating table battling for his final breaths.
Sophia nodded firmly. “I’ll do everything I can.”
Once she stepped inside the operating room, she saw a line of doctors and nurses standing tense and ready around the operating table.
When the operating room door opened, everyone instinctively looked in that direction.
They saw a petite figure entering. The mask she wore concealed most of her face, but her posture and presence made it clear she was a woman.
Was this the highly skilled doctor Albert mentioned?
She looked so young, almost too young to be performing a surgery this critical.
Sophia immediately sensed the weight of everyone’s curious and doubtful gaze. She gave them a brief nod, then began issuing instructions in an orderly manner.
"Alright, let's begin the surgery."
Her voice was clear, steady, and carried a level of confidence that caught several people off guard. For a second, they simply stared at her, stunned by her sudden authority.
Her voice sounded young, much younger than they expected. And strangely familiar.
Before anyone could process that thought further, a deep voice suddenly cut through the air. “Sophia?”
Sophia looked up instantly.
Across the table stood a tall, slender man, his eyes filled with surprise above the mask covering his face.
Sophia couldn't immediately recall who he was.
She blinked, unable to immediately place him. She had an excellent memory, but she never bothered memorizing the faces of people who weren’t deeply relevant to her life.
Besides, half his face was hidden behind a mask, and he wore rectangular glasses that obscured the rest.
After about two or three seconds,
Sophia finally retrieved his information from the depths of her mind.
"Lowell?"
His eyes lit up. “It’s me! Sophia, I didn’t think you’d remember me.”
He had never expected to see her again, yet here she was, standing right in front of him, commanding a surgery room with confidence that stunned him. A rush of excitement rippled through his chest.
Sophia only gave a small nod. “Let’s focus on the surgery first.”
This wasn’t the time for reminiscing or emotional reunions.
Francis's surgery was the most important thing. In the face of life, everything else had to take a back seat.
Lowell straightened up, realizing how inappropriate his excitement was. “Right… right. Surgery first,” he said, nodding quickly.
He swallowed the rest of his emotions and concentrated on assisting her.
Or at least, he tried to.
But this was Sophia White, someone he had thought about more often than he cared to admit.
During the surgery, His eyes kept drifting toward her against his will.
He even got lost watching her several times. Sophia was truly captivating during surgery.
Her bright, clear eyes seemed to shine with light, making it impossible to look away.
Even with her face covered, her brilliance couldn’t be hidden.
Sophia noticed a burning gaze on her and couldn't help but frown.
Sophia felt the burn of someone staring at her. She frowned slightly and lifted her head.
Her eyes met Lowell’s.
"Lowell, please pass me the surgical forceps, thanks."
He quickly Snapped back to reality, smiled sheepishly. He handed her the forceps immediately, his cheeks warming with embarrassment. He didn’t dare let his attention wander again.
However, seeing Sophia's skilled movements during surgery, he couldn't help but be secretly amazed.
Her medical skills had improved, and her technique had become even more proficient.
Two years ago, he had the privilege of performing surgery with Sophia. Now she had become even more skilled, and her personality had become more composed.
But thinking about it, it made sense.
Two years ago, the White family went through a huge crisis, and Sophia had endured many blows at that time.
Francis had spoken about her often, always with a tone of sympathy and deep care.
Back then, Lowell had gathered the courage several times to go to Silverlight City to find her. To check on her. To help her. Maybe even confess something he had buried deep inside.
But he never went.
He had never been a brave person, especially when it came to feelings.
He was doing very well in Harmony City now. Harmony Hospital was the strongest comprehensive hospital in all of Harmony City.
Back then, he had put in a lot of effort to get in here.
How could he bear to give up his job just like that?
Yet when it came to Sophia… he had never truly let go.
Who wouldn’t fall for someone as exceptional and beautiful as Sophia?
It was a regret he had carried for two long years, a regret impossible to erase.
And then yesterday happened. Sophia and Benjamin held a grand wedding that shook all of Novaria.
That was when Lowell learned the truth, Benjamin hadn’t died at all.
He had simply disappeared for two years… and finally returned.
