Chapter 369 The One and Only Treasure in My Heart
This memory is actually quite simple.
His father was a murderer who also suffered from mental illness.
His mother couldn't stand his father's psychological control, had an affair with another man, and was eventually stabbed to death by her own husband.
After they died, young Finnley lived alone in a rundown house. Every time neighbors saw him, they couldn't help but point and whisper about him.
Kids around the neighborhood would call him "the murderer's son" whenever they saw him.
He became more and more withdrawn, and eventually didn't even want to leave the house.
Until later, when the police took him to an orphanage.
Actually, even after moving to a new place, his life didn't really change.
The teachers found him too gloomy and would take out their anger on him, sometimes secretly pinching or hitting him when things didn't go their way.
The other kids stayed away from him and bullied him too.
Until one day, he was adopted by a man named Bryant, who brought him into the GeneCipher Society.
From then on, he underwent all kinds of brutal closed training during the day, and at night he'd be taken to a lab to be used as an experimental subject.
Unknown drugs were injected into his body, and he constantly endured pain and suffering.
But he didn't dare resist, because resisting meant certain death.
When he got a bit older, he started going on missions, facing gunfire every day, walking the line between life and death.
Several times he almost didn't make it, but he managed to pull through with sheer willpower.
Until two years ago, when he was on a mission and got into a car accident that left him unconscious.
After waking up, he felt something was off, and even started to realize he didn't fit in with the GeneCipher Society.
That was the first time in his life he wanted to escape from the GeneCipher Society.
But he had no idea how deep the GeneCipher Society really went. He only knew that there were powerful forces behind it that he couldn't fight alone.
That's when he met M.
M had a real head for business, so he partnered with M and started running various businesses in secret.
In just two years, they grew the company bigger and bigger.
He wanted to expand further and build a force that could stand up to the GeneCipher Society.
But before they could put their plan into action, he suddenly got a call from Elijah.
Elijah told him to approach a woman named Sophia and bring her back at any cost.
He thought to himself that this would be the last thing he'd do for the GeneCipher Society.
He never expected such a coincidence, that an accident would happen...
He fell for Sophia at first sight.
The moment she threw herself into his arms with red-rimmed eyes, Finnley felt lost and flustered.
He wanted to run away, but couldn't help wanting to get closer to her.
It was a feeling he'd never experienced before.
Sophia leaned against his shoulder, listening carefully as he spoke, unable to stop the corners of her mouth from turning up.
When he got to the part about their reunion, Sophia looked up at him.
Her soft, fair fingers grabbed his sharp, defined jawline, forcing him to meet her eyes.
"So you liked me from the start?"
Her eyes sparkled brightly, like they were filled with tiny stars, dazzling and captivating.
So beautiful you couldn't look away.
Finnley's gaze was meaningful. "I don't know, probably?"
Sophia laughed and lifted her chin proudly. "But you gave me the cold shoulder back then! So it was all an act?"
Caught out, Finnley cleared his throat, looking a bit uncomfortable. "No, I thought you had a husband back then, that you weren't someone I could touch."
"So if I really did have a husband, you would've just given up on me?" Sophia narrowed her eyes slightly, staring at him intently.
Her expression seemed to say: if you dare say you'd give up on me, you're dead.
Looking at the playful, cunning expression on Sophia's face, Finnley couldn't help but laugh.
His large, warm palm gently rubbed the top of Sophia's fluffy hair, his eyes firm. "No. If there was another man by your side, I'd just steal you back."
He wasn't the type to silently sacrifice for love. If he wanted someone, he'd get them by any means necessary.
Meeting Sophia's surprised gaze, Finnley paused. "Did I scare you?"
"No." Sophia's eyes darted around. She wrapped her arms around Finnley's neck and planted a kiss on his lips.
"Mr. Bryant, you're so domineering."
But... she liked it.
Finnley had thought he'd scared her, and a trace of panic rose in his heart. His brain raced, trying to figure out how to explain.
But before he could say anything, he felt a soft touch on his lips.
Carrying a hint of sweet softness.
Finnley's heart felt like it had been poked by something, going completely soft.
"Sophia, you really are..."
How could there be such an adorable woman? Everything about her was exactly what he wanted.
Sophia seemed tailor-made for him by heaven, always able to touch his heart so easily.
Sophia hugged him, smiling with her eyes curved.
She suddenly asked Finnley, "Why did you call me Sophia from the start? Did you remember something before?"
This was a question she'd always wanted to ask.
She'd noticed early on that when Finnley first met her, he called her "Sophia" just like he had two years ago.
When she first heard "Sophia" from Finnley's mouth, Sophia almost thought he'd already recovered his memory.
Finnley looked down at her, his deep eyes full of warmth and sincerity. "It was my subconscious, it just came out."
Sophia's mouth dropped open in surprise. "That simple?"
Finnley: "That simple."
Sophia nodded in understanding. So that's how it was.
Sophia felt like her heart was soaking in a honey jar, seeping sweetness bit by bit.
She lifted her chin and planted a big kiss on Finnley's face.
Then she buried her face deep into the man's shoulder and nuzzled it, her movements full of dependence. "Honey, I really like you. You're one of a kind to me too."
Finnley breathed in the faint fragrance from her body, his lips curving up as he teased, "One of a kind? If you had to choose between me now and me from two years ago, who would you pick?"
Sophia: "..."
Wait, are you seriously jealous of yourself?
Why make things difficult for her?
"Can't choose?"
Seeing her silence, Finnley glanced at her sideways. "You just said I was one of a kind, and now you're hesitating? Women really are fickle."
Watching Finnley act jealous and pouty with that handsome face, Sophia's lips twitched.
Who's the one who's really fickle?
"Do I have to choose?" Sophia looked troubled.
She seriously suspected this was a trap - no matter which one she picked, it would be wrong.
But Finnley was looking at her expectantly, waiting for her answer.
She was really stuck now.
Finnley nodded. With one arm around her slender waist and the other propping up his head against the sofa, he watched her leisurely.
Sophia went straight for Finnley's lips and kissed him. "I choose you, I choose you, I choose you!"
Say the important thing three times!
When Finnley gets his memory back, she can always change her answer.
She's so smart!
