Chapter 19 Grandpa's Bragging
Finn turned around and eyed Sophia suspiciously. "Mrs. White, how do you know the Lumina Group has these kinds of meds?"
Sophia's nerves tightened, debating whether to spill the beans about Matthew being her mentor.
It wasn't like she was deliberately hiding it.
Matthew didn't know she'd been taken by the Browns.
And he definitely didn't know she was married to Benjamin.
If Matthew found out, he'd drag her back for sure.
Then she'd never see Benjamin again!
Just then, Finn clapped his hands suddenly. "Oh, I get it! You're a doctor, so it's normal for you to know about meds. I'll head to the Lumina Group right away. Mr. White's illness is the priority."
With that, Finn left the White Manor.
Sophia watched Finn's retreating figure, exhaling slowly but feeling a pang of guilt.
If it weren't so risky for her to show up, she would have gone to beg Matthew herself.
Sophia lowered her eyelashes, her face full of melancholy.
Benjamin came downstairs and saw Sophia looking utterly dejected. "What's wrong? Did someone mess with you?"
Benjamin's first thought was that someone had bullied Sophia while he wasn't paying attention.
Otherwise, how could the usually lively Sophia look so lost and helpless?
Sophia shook her head and looked up at Benjamin. "Honey, if you found out I was hiding something from you, would you be mad?"
Benjamin shook his head, his deep voice carrying a hint of tenderness. "No. If you don't tell me, you must have your reasons."
Sophia blinked in confusion, lost in thought.
Benjamin raised his hand and gently ruffled Sophia's hair. "Everyone has secrets, me included."
In Benjamin's eyes, Sophia was like a child who couldn't hide her emotions.
She was pure and innocent.
It was clear she had been well protected.
Though he had never met Robert, he could guess that Robert treated Sophia well.
This thought made Benjamin's heart relax a little.
"Thank goodness..." Benjamin murmured to himself.
"What?" Sophia didn't hear him clearly and looked up. "Honey, what did you say thank goodness for?"
Benjamin chuckled and shook his head. "Nothing."
Thank goodness Sophia met someone like Robert who treated her well.
Thank goodness fate brought her to him.
Thank goodness... there was still time to fulfill the promises that had once been missed.
In the study, Preston sat lazily on the couch, looking completely at ease.
He opened a video call to an old friend.
While talking, he picked up his teacup and sipped it slowly.
He looked so relaxed, his eyes slightly squinted, fully enjoying himself.
There wasn't a trace of his usual stern and cold demeanor.
Tobias Martinez and Ronin Sterling looked at the person on the video call with confusion, wondering if Preston had been replaced by someone else.
Tobias asked, "Preston, what's up? Why are you so happy?"
Ronin added, "Yeah, you seem really strange today, like really strange."
Preston smiled and took another sip of his tea, even making a sound on purpose.
He waved his hand nonchalantly. "Nothing much. What could happen? It's just that Benjamin got married. I'm happy."
Ronin laughed. "Come on, there's gotta be more to it. We all knew about the wedding. You were still frowning a few days ago."
Preston chuckled, pointing at Ronin on the screen. "Good eye!"
With that, Preston excitedly recounted how Benjamin met Sophia and decisively married her, embellishing the story with great flair.
Of course, some parts were a bit exaggerated.
Benjamin walked in just in time to hear Preston proudly say, "My grandson is really something. When he likes someone, he goes for it without hesitation. Just like me!"
"See this? This is the sleep aid medicine that Benjamin's wife made for me. I took it after lunch and had the best nap."
Listening to Preston's bragging, Tobias and Ronin couldn't help but twitch their lips.
They had known Preston for forty or fifty years and had never seen him so flashy.
They asked curiously, "This Sophia really knows medicine? How did that happen?"
Preston's expression turned serious. He leaned closer to the tablet screen, pretending to be mysterious. " Sophia is no ordinary girl! Have you heard of Robert?"
Benjamin sat on a nearby chair, a look of helplessness on his handsome face.
He pinched the bridge of his nose, unable to help but chuckle inwardly.
If people outside knew that Preston was like this at home, they'd be shocked. After all, Preston was even more intimidating than Benjamin.
Back in the day, he single-handedly founded the White Group, solidifying the White Family's status among the elite. His decisive methods were enough to instill fear in anyone.
Benjamin suddenly thought of himself. Since he took over the White Group, people outside had secretly called him the "Cold-Faced Satan."
Whenever they saw him, they couldn't help but show fear. Unlike Sophia. She naively approached him, showing genuine affection for someone who was on the brink of death.
Thinking of Sophia, Benjamin's cold heart softened for a moment, just as Preston said, "Benjamin, you must treat Sophia well. Don't be like your father, abandoning his wife and child!"
"And don't forget the White Family's code. Since you're married, you can only have one woman for life. If you follow in your father's footsteps, I'll break your legs!"
This was the first time in over twenty years that Preston had warned Benjamin.
When Benjamin was born, his parents left him to fend for himself.
Preston, outraged, took Benjamin in and raised him. Preston had always doted on Benjamin, rarely scolding him. This warning was the harshest thing Preston had ever said to Benjamin in over twenty years.
Mentioning Magnus made the aura around Benjamin darken, a fierce glint flashing in his eyes.
He straightened his back and nodded firmly at Preston. "Don't worry, Grandpa. I won't."
Sophia was all he needed.
Hearing his assurance, Preston nodded in satisfaction. "That's good. Girls like Sophia are rare. You're really lucky, Benjamin. You two should stay home for a while. As for your mother..."
Preston's tone paused, seeing Benjamin's face darken. He sighed heavily in his heart and said helplessly, "You don't need to pay attention to her. It's been hard for her these years."
