Chapter 103 Guilt
Because DNA tests between siblings can sometimes be inaccurate, he specifically called Hayden to the hospital.
A few days later, when the DNA test results came out, he finally confirmed that Sophia was indeed his long-lost sister.
However, the entire Brown family had treated Isabella like a precious gem, so they instinctively decided to keep this information hidden.
Later, when the Brown family was on the brink of bankruptcy, Hayden heard that the White family was looking for a marriage partner for Benjamin. Immediately, he thought of Sophia.
Even though Heath didn't agree with this plan, they had no other choice at the time.
The Brown family owed Sophia too much.
Perhaps they could never repay her in this lifetime.
Thinking of that cold and distant girl, Heath felt a pang in his heart.
The entire Brown family atmosphere was extremely tense that night.
Isabella cried in her room for most of the night.
The servants didn't dare to make a sound.
Heath looked at the bright moonlight, and suddenly the image of the first time he met Sophia came to mind.
She appeared so petite, with delicate features, and her brows and eyes bore some resemblance to Olivia.
She had always been quiet and never fought for anything.
She never asked them for anything.
When she first arrived at the Brown villa, her clear, bright eyes were filled with curiosity and anticipation.
At some point, the light in her eyes began to fade.
She must have been disappointed in the Brown family. Heath felt a sudden sharp pain in his chest.
He covered his chest with his hand and let out a bitter laugh.
Had they made a mistake?
Upstairs.
Olivia tossed and turned in bed, her mind filled with the malicious and cold voice of Isabella from the audio recording.
Olivia had watched Isabella grow up and couldn't believe she had such a vicious side.
But the evidence was right in front of her, and she had no choice but to believe it.
Olivia nudged Hayden.
"Hayden, do you think we made a mistake? Sophia is our biological daughter. Weren't we too harsh before?"
After all, she had carried Sophia for ten months. Despite not having much of a bond, Olivia still felt some guilt.
Hayden suddenly opened his eyes and said coldly to Olivia, "Sophia came back and caused chaos in the family. What's there to pity? Isabella grew up with us. Don't you know her by now? Sure, she can be a bit spoiled, but there's no way she would do something so malicious. It must be Sophia framing her..."
Olivia frowned, finding his words strange.
But before she could think more about it, Hayden continued, "You should be thinking about how to deal with the Stewart family's anger. We've already offended the White family, and now the Stewart family wants to break off the engagement."
Olivia's attention was diverted. She hesitated and asked, "What should we do?"
"The engagement between our families was arranged by the elders. If they want to cancel it, they'll need the elders' approval." Hayden's face darkened, and a cold glint flashed in his eyes.
Olivia's eyes lit up. "I'll take Isabella to see Mason Stewart tomorrow. But he cares a lot about appearances. Will he really want to continue this marriage?"
Hayden gave Olivia a cold look. "You said it yourself, Mason cares most about appearances. If people find out he doesn't keep his promises, what will they think of the Stewart family?"
Olivia suddenly understood.
"Alright, let's get some sleep. I have work tomorrow." Hayden coldly withdrew his gaze and turned his back to Olivia, falling into a deep sleep.
Watching his back, Olivia couldn't help but frown.
Lately, Hayden had been turning his back to her every night, which made her feel sad.
Olivia pursed her lips and slowly moved closer to Hayden, wrapping her arms around his waist.
"What are you doing? Go to sleep." Hayden's body stiffened, and he quickly pushed Olivia's hand away.
Olivia pouted, feeling wronged. "We're married. What's wrong with me hugging you?"
"I told you I'm tired and want to sleep." Hayden was already frustrated with the Stewart family wanting to cancel the engagement, and now he was in an even worse mood.
He got out of bed, grabbed his pillow and blanket, and headed for the door.
"Where are you going?" Olivia asked in a low voice.
"The guest room." Hayden left without looking back.
Olivia stomped her foot in frustration and had a restless night.
Sophia knew nothing about what was happening with the Brown family.
In the past few days, she re-examined the data and samples and found that the samples had indeed been tampered with.
Looking at the tampered samples, Sophia's face turned cold.
Only five people had keys to Alaric's lab.
Sophia's key was newly issued, and she had only received it a few days ago.
This meant that the person who tampered with the samples was one of the five.
Due to confidentiality, there were no cameras in the lab.
So, Sophia couldn't be sure who did it.
Alaric kept them on because they were highly skilled and trustworthy.
No one expected something like this to happen.
After discussing it with Alaric, they decided to wait and see.
If the person tampered once, they could do it again.
They needed to be patient.
"Sophia, how's your wrist? We saw the trending topic on Facebook. I can't believe Isabella's fans are so crazy." Aurora asked with concern.
"Seriously! Are there any sane fans left?" Steven muttered in agreement.
"I used the ointment Elijah gave me. It's much better now." Sophia replied with a light smile.
She looked down at the wound on her arm.
The redness had faded a lot, but the wound hadn't healed yet.
Aurora's eyes widened in surprise. "How did you get hurt so badly?"
"Yeah, Sophia, you're hurt so badly. Why aren't you resting at home?" Steven frowned, glaring at Alaric.
Sophia was the gem of their lab.
Although they hadn't known her long, Sophia's medical talent far exceeded their expectations.
Sometimes, when they encountered problems, they would instinctively ask Sophia.
And the problems they found very difficult, Sophia could solve quickly.
Steven was both envious and jealous, wishing he could open up Sophia's brain to see how it was wired.
"Don't blame Alaric. I can't sit still and wanted to come by." Sophia smiled, her face radiant.
"Did you hear that? Don't blame me." Alaric raised an eyebrow and then looked at Sophia. "If your hand isn't up to it, don't do any heavy research."
"I understand."
Sophia nodded with a smile and then took out several herbs from her bag, placing them on the table.
Steven looked at her curiously. "Sophia, what are you doing?"
"Making some ointment for burns." Sophia replied with a smile.
