Chapter 39 039
Chapter 39 039
"Say." The voice was direct, blunt, and basic.
Stella licked her lips and said, holding the earpiece, "I just realized that my...antacid is missing, I don't know if I've left it in your office."
"No." Clarence did not wait for her to continue talking after he was done; he immediately hung up.
Stella couldn't say anything. If he didn't have, that was okay too. What a miserable man, and why did he have to be so mean?
Stella was on the bed, resting down. Even if she purposefully stated that the folic acid had an antacid effect, the miserable man would undoubtedly condemn her for wishful thinking if it was actually left there with that function. But Stella felt a little concerned even if this was the state of affairs. That night, she was unable to get a good night's sleep.
She went to the cafe and restaurant she had visited the day before to inquire when she woke up, but the employees at both establishments claimed not to have seen it. All she could do was pray it ended up on the road.
It was afternoon, and Stella was not free. When she found the ideal home—in the Conrad Group—she scheduled many appointments to view them and was almost ready to sign a contract to move out.
Looking up from a stack of papers was Clarence. He stared icily at the folic acid and IOU that were positioned next to him. He sneered sharply. Unexpectedly, she revealed that it was antacid.
Pursed were Clarence's tiny lips. After a while, he pulled out his phone, looked up the number Stella had given her the previous evening, and gave her a call back. He was curious to observe Stella's reaction when she saw the folic acid bottle in front of him. He also wanted to see what new justifications she might come up with.
A kind female voice said, "Hello, you're calling Cloud Top Hotel. How may I help you?" once the call was answered, Clarence's brows went up a little bit.
A hotel? Why did she travel to the hotel when she was supposed to be staying at her friend's house? Clarence's expression quickly become icy as he considered a certain scenario. His eyes were covered with a thin film of frost. He ended the call, got up, and sauntered out of the office.
He turned around as he approached the door and went back to get the folic acid that was on the table and place it in his shirt pocket.
Nathan hurriedly followed him after spotting him emerge, saying, "Mr. Conrad..."
In a somewhat icy voice, Clarence said, "Go to the SG Jewelry Magazine office."
"Yes."
"Mr. Conrad, the members of the Jason family have gone to the Conrads' Mansion and I hear that they are going to discuss the marriage of Mr. Jason and Miss Conrad," Nathan said over the phone, seeming a little dejected.
Clarence's features were entirely expressionless, devoid of any emotion. After a few seconds, he finally said, "Go back."
The Conrads Mansion was the direction in which the Rolls-Royce turned. This time, Phoebe was among the guests who visited the Conrad family in addition to Horace's parents. For many decades, the Conrad family and the Steward family were close friends. Because Phoebe was calm, kind, and intelligent, Joanna really loved her. Phoebe felt she shouldn't have stayed after saying hello to the elders.
"Auntie and uncle, l've found some classical music records abroad this time," Phoebe said. “I'll take them to Justin; he'll like them for sure."
"Go ahead, he's in the garden," smiled Joanna. “It's been a while since you two have seen one another, so he will be overjoyed to see you."
Since this was initially a problem between Annie and Horace, it only made sense for her parents to decide Annie's marriage. After all, she was only Joanna's younger sister's kid, and even if she had adopted the Conrad last name, she was still not a true part of the Conrad family. But both families were well aware of Annie's lack of significance. The union of the Conrad and Jason families was what was truly needed to be done this time.
Dempsey and Joanna, naturally, would be the ones to come out and make the decisions this time. This type of business-related marriage was rather frequent among the nobility. Annie was also very polite and behaved beautifully among the seniors.
Horace's parents believed that since she was a young child, she should be spoilt and free from negative notions. She might change after the marriage. With Annie's assistance, the two parties quickly made progress after discussing the marriage for their respective goals.
It was almost over when Clarence reappeared out of nowhere. Upon his arrival, it seemed as though everyone had hit the pause button and nobody was speaking anymore. Only Annie smiled and added, "Clarence, Horace and I will be engaged soon, nobody will be able to steal him from me anymore in the future. According to Dempsey, it is my intention to wed next month, and the Conrad Group subsidiary Coastal Hotel will serve as the setting. What do you think, Clarence?"
"I don't agree," remarked Clarence, aloofly sitting on the couch.
Annie became a little nervous at hearing this. "Clarence..."
Rebecca responded, "Can Mr. Conrad tell us what is the reason for your disagreement. What kind of mess does Clarence have outside, he himself knows it."
"Mr. Conrad, words cannot be said without proof," scowled George. “Horace is a kind individual who is honest. He never compromises his moral character and would never act immorally outside of it."
In a low tone, Dempsey asked, "What's going on."
Annie got to her feet swiftly and said, "Horace has been bothered by that woman. She has defrauded Horace!"
Joanna questioned, "Which lady? Annie, state it emphatically."
"It's Ste..." Annie responded, "halfway," and Clarence shot her a chilly look. Shoving her foot and clenching her teeth, “There is absolutely nothing separating her and Horace. I will only ever marry him."
At this point, Rebecca stated, "Even though Annie is Mr. Conrad's younger sister, parents always decide on a marriage. It appears that Mr. Conrad exercised too much control."
Clarence's tone was even more detached, and his thin lips twisted viciously. "I don't care about Annie's marriage, and I don't have the time to worry about this. However, all of the shares registered in her name would be given back to the Conrad Group upon her marriage."
The sitting room erupted into another strange quiet as soon as these words were spoken. That much was made obvious by Clarence. Their wish could only be unfulfilled if they intended to utilize this marriage as a means of working with the Jason family to strengthen their hold on the Conrad Group. This implied that the Jason family would not be cooperating with the Conrad Group. In the end, this business-related marriage was for nothing.
Worse than before, Joanna said, "Haven't you gone too far." Joanna's request for Annie to alter her last name was the reason Annie changed it to the Conrad Group shares. However, Clarence's actions definitely dashed all of her hopes. The Jasons were well-known. They would much benefit from the marriage to the Conrad family, but Clarence's remarks were too severe, and they could not take it.
George spoke up and remarked, "You guys have a family issue here. Our involvement is inappropriate, and we will depart beforehand."
"Mr. Jason, Clarence didn't mean that, hurriedly attempted to stop them from leaving because Annie was quite nervous. Please, Mrs. Jason, convince Mr. Jason that I..."
"Annie, it's better to wait until your family has discussed it and then we talk about this matter afterwards," Tabitha said, removing her hand.
Rebecca departed as well. Only a handful remained in the living room after some time.
Annie was outraged, but she was afraid to say anything about it. "Clarence, I don't want anything, I just want to be with Horace," was all she could say with eagerness.
“Annie, shut up-“ said Dempsey.
