Chapter 108

Chapter 108

Oliver pov

“What do you mean by what you just said?” I glared at her in surprise. Although I had an idea of what she could possibly be talking about, I just couldn’t believe it.

“Come on inside,” Isadora pulled my arm, trying to lead me into the penthouse but then I stopped her, “there are still a couple more gifts in the car, you didn’t even bother to get in and see them.”She glared at me like I was some weird creature who could talk, “What?!”

“Oliver now is not the time.” She got down the stairs, hurried towards the car and shut the door immediately. “Are you okay now? I’ll come check it but that will be after we’ve figured this whole thing out.

Daddy is bummed and for what it’s worth, he’s just been trying to use this whole wedding thing as a distraction.”

“I’ll come with you.” Once again, she pulled my arm and led me to the bedroom. I didn’t see Mr Langford when I came in but with the news I’m hearing, things aren’t just falling apart, it feels like they’re actually tumbling apart because Langford’s downfall hadn’t come to an end yet.

I couldn’t just stop thinking about what could possibly be remaining for myself especially if he goes bankrupt and then decides to start selling things, what then will be in his will? What then will he hand over to me?What if what’s left is so little he doesn’t hand anything to me at all, then what do I do—“Oliver?!” Isadora quacked my arm with her elbow, forcefully pushing me out of my trail of thoughts, “Ow! What was that for?!”

“What was that for?! Oliver, haven’t you been listening to me— you know what, don’t answer that question because you haven’t actually been listening to me.” Isadora had her fingernails in her mouth and bit on them, nervously while pacing around the room.

“This won’t help you or him or any of us.” I reminded her.

“Why did you tell daddy about the day we went to the mall?”

“What type of question is Isadora? I told him because he’s your father plus he asked?”

“So you also had to add that I wasn’t bubbly?”I slowly approached and grabbed her hand to stop her from pacing around, “Isadora, I just wanted to help you, I’m not in your head which means I don’t know what’s going on in your mind now, I don’t know if something is bothering you or not and you’ve refused to talk to anybody about it, except Nathan who you slept with and now he’s behind bars—“ she slapped her hand on my chest, immediately I grabbed her hand, “Okay sorry, but that was what happened.”

“Enough about talking about Nathan.”

“Well then, perfect for us both.” I sighed.

“Daddy is in the gym, we should go meet him there and have this conversation.”

“Won’t you at least shower first?” She glared at me and then stormed out of the room heading towards the gym, “I guess that means no then.” I sighed and followed her behind.

By the time we got to the gym, we met Langford sitting all sweaty on a chair, and panting softly, “Darling…” he started and grabbed his water bottle.

“Daddy I found Oliver.” She looked back at me and I walked closer to Kade.He took down a few gulps of water, “We’ve been searching all morning for you, Oliver where were you?”

“I was overseeing the preparation of a surprise package—“

“Oh wow.” He interrupted with a smile and turned to Isadora who wasn’t looking at either of us.

“I was at the company where it’s being prepared.”

“Issa, did you like the surprise package?”

“Daddy please can we focus on the matter at hand? Why the hell would Charles invite you for his celebration party.” She sparked.

“Honey, this isn’t something you should be bothering yourself about, do you know that? Because I’m not even bothered myself.” Kade said and got up from his seat.

“Wha— why?!”

“Because it’s a waste of time, that’s why. He invited us to get us to react this way. Honey it’s a thing we rich men do to spite one another, at least it’s one of them. You have a romantic relationship with him, you should know this.” Kade muttered.

I turned to see Issa's facial expression and she wasn’t having it at all. “We can simply just ignore the invitation instead of making it a big deal.” I added.

“Exactly, Oliver. You don’t need to waste your time processing the whole thing.” He walked right past us and headed to the door, “Also Issa, you should go take a shower.” Then he disappeared into the other side of the door.

Her mouth fell wide open, I grabbed her hand and led her out of the gym, “come on let’s get you ready for work.”After a moment of freshening up, she was almost done getting ready. She sat in front of the mirror while fixing up her jewelry and makeup.

Then came a knock on the door. The door flew open, revealing Kade who was dressed in a suit with his bag in his hands, “Issa, I’m waiting for you downstairs.” She didn’t say anything to him but he closed the door and his footsteps slowly disappeared.

I followed him downstairs and from the stairwell, I saw his assistant, already seated in the living room and flipping through the pages of some books. Kade took a seat, “Let’s wait for Issa.” He said to her.

“Alright sir.” She responded.

“Did you reject the invitation yet?”

“What invitation sir?”

“The one from Charles ? For his party as CEO?”

“Sir you were invited?” She raised her brows in shock, “Yes I was, but it’s not a big deal for me.”

“Oh my… nice one Sir.”

“What was that?”

“Sir, rejecting the invitation would be a horrible idea—“

“Do you want to know what the real horrible idea is? Actually listening to you and not rejecting those invitations, that’s the real horrible idea.” Isadora interrupted her while she was on her way downstairs already dressed.

“It’s not. Think about what it would do to you sir. I mean I get the fact that he’s already caused more damage than good but if you reject this invitation, it will get people talking again and they would even raise more scandals in your name.

Sir you've been in this business for way longer than we all, you know the ropes.”Kade rubbed his hand against his chin, “hmm..”

“Think about it sir. what do you say?”
