Chapter 61
Elizabeth's Perspective
His gaze made me very uncomfortable. I immediately stepped back to create distance and cleared my throat, "If there's nothing important, stop hanging around me. We're done."
Aiden's left eye was completely bruised. He laughed twice, "Elizabeth, you deliberately came to ruin my business deal. Why?"
I knew that for this partnership, Aiden must have done a lot of preparation behind the scenes. Otherwise, he couldn't have pinpointed Jasper's interests so precisely and gotten close to him so quickly.
Now that the deal was in my hands, just this alone was enough to make him suffer.
"I wasn't trying to ruin your deal. I just thought partnering with Mr. Garcia would be valuable, so I took the initiative to pursue it."
I looked at him calmly and reminded him, "Aiden, have you forgotten who helped you manage company affairs when we were together? I'm just doing what I did back then."
If Aiden hadn't betrayed me and we were still together, then understanding Jasper's preferences and pursuing this partnership opportunity - these would all be things I'd be doing.
Come to think of it, this should be the first time since we split that Aiden tried to secure a partnership on his own.
And he failed. I imagine he must be feeling pretty bad about it.
"Your family went bankrupt, and Mr. Windsor doesn't even need this level of partnership. You're just deliberately trying to get revenge on me, right?"
"What guilty thing did you do that makes you think I must be getting revenge on you?"
Aiden froze, looking at me with hesitation in his eyes.
I looked at him and continued, "Get it straight - this is fair competition. You lost, so stop acting like a sore loser."
The bodyguards were brutal but controlled their force. Aiden wouldn't be beaten to death, but his whole body was swaying, looking completely disheveled.
Aiden hesitated several times. I got straight into the car.
"Elizabeth, Elizabeth, come back!" Only then did he seem to suddenly react and chase after me, but the car had already started, and he was forced to step aside.
Inside the car, the atmosphere was tense.
I looked at Alexander beside me, his eyes closed in rest, feeling uncertain.
When we were teaching Aiden a lesson earlier, he didn't seem to care and didn't comment on my actions at all.
"Mr. Windsor, thank you for coming with me. Now..."
"Go home." Alexander cut me off directly, not even lifting his eyelids.
I pressed my lips together and looked out the window.
The words "go home" felt strange, since it was Alexander's home. What did it mean to include me in that?
Yet Alexander said it so naturally, as if I were the only one he cared about.
After leaving the Smith family, I seemed to have nowhere to live.
"Mr. Windsor, wouldn't it be inappropriate for me to stay at your place? I won't run away. How about I move out?"
Alexander opened his eyes and slowly looked at me, his eyes showing displeasure, silently questioning me.
"Do you have somewhere else to go?" he asked, his tone calm.
To someone else, these words might sound offensive, as if he were saying she had no home.
But I knew Alexander was simply asking the question without any other meaning.
"I could have." I gave a vague answer.
When I agreed to join Julia's design project, I had her open a new account under her name.
The final payments were mostly deposited into that account - a considerable amount.
Whether it was Aiden or Alexander, neither could trace that money, and using it to buy a new place would be easy.
Most importantly, not having to face Alexander all the time would make me feel relaxed.
With this thought, my tone became firmer, "I just think staying at your place would disturb you. I can take care of myself."
Alexander frowned, as if thinking about what I meant, his pupils widening slightly.
"You mean you don't want to live with me?"
That's what I meant, but hearing it come from Alexander's mouth had a subtle feeling that made me unsure how to answer.
"Yes, I feel like I'm causing you too much trouble."
A force suddenly came at me, and then Alexander moved completely close to me, flames of anger bursting from his pupils.
He grabbed my wrist, making it impossible for me to break free, his tone cold and heavy, "Elizabeth, I won't allow you to leave me."
His words were domineering. I clenched my teeth and took a deep breath.
"Looks like I've been too nice to you, and now you're thinking about leaving."
Hearing Alexander's words, I finally realized and quickly waved my hand at him, "No, I never thought about leaving. I'm just worried I might disturb you."
I looked into his eyes and instinctively looked away.
Looking directly into his eyes while saying this, I felt guilty.
We rode in silence back to The Windsor Family. I was as nervous as the first time I was brought here, following behind Alexander with my head down.
Until Lisa helped me back to my room and removed my makeup.
"Ms. Spencer, Mr. Windsor seems a bit unhappy. Did something happen?"
I shook my head without speaking.
Actually, at the party, I felt something was off, but I couldn't quite tell what.
In the car, when I suggested I could move out, his face completely darkened.
Lisa handed me a face towel. I finally couldn't help but speak, "What is Alexander thinking? I'm carrying his child now and want to share the responsibility with him, but he always seems like he doesn't trust me."
"Ms. Spencer, did you say something to Mr. Windsor?"
I told her what happened at the party, and saw Lisa shake her head at me, "Ms. Spencer, you're the first person I've seen Mr. Windsor truly care about. I think his concern for you isn't just because of the baby you're carrying."
I frowned, confusion in my eyes, "What do you mean?"
Not just because of the baby? Then, because of what?
Lisa pressed her lips together, "Mr. Windsor used to be quite silent. He hardly said a few words at home, but after you came, he's been communicating with us much more."
I was a bit confused, not quite understanding what she meant.
After cleaning my face, Lisa seemed to fall into some kind of memory and continued, "When you first came, Mr. Windsor explained everything about you. That was the first time he talked to us so much. We were all shocked."
"That's just because I'm carrying his child." I felt nothing, my tone even calm.
Come to think of it, I should thank this child.
If not for this baby, I might have been killed by Aiden already.
But...
I suddenly looked at her seriously, "Alexander is so outstanding, there must be plenty of women who want to have his child, right? Why would he care about the one in my belly..."
