Chapter 192
Chapter 192
Beatrice glanced at Seth and Adrian, then suddenly let go of Beckett's arm and linked arms with Layla instead. "Layla, let's go."
Layla smiled slightly and let her pull her into the resort.
Seth looked at Adrian, and Adrian withdrew his gaze from Layla to look back at him.
Seth and Adrian just stared at each other, their expressions neither warm nor cold.
Beckett obviously sensed the tension. He pointed behind him. "Should we head inside too?"
Seth was the first to look away and walk through the entrance. Beckett glanced at Adrian and shot him a glare. "What's going on with you two?"
Adrian raised an eyebrow and snorted. "Why didn't you just ask him? Picking on the easy target?"
Beckett was indeed thinking exactly that—between the two of them, he'd chosen the one who was easier to talk to.
He gave Adrian a meaningful look. "So you're admitting you're soft?"
Adrian smiled contemptuously and said to Coralie, who was nestled in his arms. "Coralie, tell Beckett if I'm soft."
Coralie's face turned red, and she shyly hit his shoulder. "You're terrible!"
Beckett rolled his eyes. "I'm going in."
"Adrian, should we go in too?"
Adrian pinched Coralie's soft cheek playfully. "That eager to hot spring with me?"
Coralie's face flushed completely red, but she was actually looking forward to it, so she boldly nodded.
Coralie's honest response made Adrian chuckle, and then he put his arm around her and entered the resort.
Beatrice handed Layla a new swimsuit. "This size should fit you."
Layla took it. "Thanks."
But when she opened it, she was at a loss for words. "Isn't this a bit too revealing?"
Beatrice looked at her in surprise, her gaze moving from the swimsuit in her hands to Layla's body. "How is it revealing? Besides, with a body like yours, what are you worried about?"
As she spoke, Beatrice couldn't help but curiously touch her stomach. "Don't they say women's bodies change after having kids? You don't look like you've had a baby at all."
Layla blinked at her. She felt like the Beatrice now was different from the Beatrice she'd first met.
Seeing her stare, Beatrice smiled. "What? Have I changed somehow?"
After thinking for a moment, Layla nodded. "A little, I think."
Beatrice crossed her arms and leaned against the closet door, looking at her. "More approachable? More lively?"
Layla's eyes flickered, then she nodded. "Something like that."
When they first met, she'd thought Beatrice was a perfect career woman—perceptive and confident.
But now she seemed to have gained some liveliness and spirit.
Maybe that was the approachability she mentioned?
Beatrice smiled and said, "I actually used to like Mr. Stanton. You could probably tell, right?"
Layla nodded, seeing her suddenly bring this up.
"You must have been pretty curious seeing me with Beckett?"
Layla tied up her hair and shook her head. "Not strange, just a bit unexpected."
"Right? I really liked Mr. Stanton back then, but after finding out you two were already married, I can't say I was heartbroken, just pretty disappointed. Then I got closer to Beckett, and as we spent time together, we developed a friendship. So we'd often hang out privately, and one time I really did get too drunk."
Layla could guess how things developed from there.
"Drinking led to trouble. Normally, this kind of thing wouldn't be a big deal if two people talked it out, but he was unlucky—my dad found out."
Layla raised an eyebrow at her.
"After all, I considered Beckett a friend. How could I hurt him? If I'd said it was just drunken sex, my dad would've killed him, so I lied. I said we'd been dating all along to save his life."
"So you made it real?"
Beatrice turned to look at the lights above. "Sort of? Once we'd slept together the first time, the second time was easier. I found that being with him was actually pretty relaxing and fun, so I suggested we try actually dating for real."
"He agreed, so we've been together for about a year now. We got engaged a couple of months ago."
After finishing, Beatrice turned to look at her again. "In life, you're bound to meet many people. Love at first sight is that heart-fluttering feeling, but most people tend toward another choice."
"What choice?"
"The kind where being together is most comfortable, where you never get tired of each other—that sense of compatibility should last longer than just being attracted to someone. It's not like I haven't dated before—three months, six months—but gradually, when the passion fades, it gets boring. But when I'm with Beckett, I feel relaxed, and I actually enjoy being with him."
Layla nodded. "That makes sense."
But Beatrice added, "You and Seth seem to have that kind of feeling."
Layla froze, almost wanting to laugh. "How can you tell?"
"Didn't I say it's a feeling? You seem pretty cold toward him, but there's just something between you two. I had that feeling from the first day I saw you together, but I just got the person wrong."
"Got the person wrong?"
"Seth and Adrian!"
"Mr. Evans?"
Beatrice nodded. "The first time I met you all, I thought you were Mr. Evans's secret girlfriend, but I kept noticing Seth's eyes wandering to you. I thought he had some interest in you, but it turned out I just had the people mixed up."
Layla just pressed her lips together. "I'm not close with Mr. Evans. We've only met a few times."
Beatrice raised her eyebrows in surprise. "Really?"
Layla hung up her clothes, closed the closet door, and nodded. "Of course. I've probably met Mr. Evans fewer times than you have."
After all, she'd never been part of Seth's social circle before.
Beatrice touched her chin. "That's strange. Did I make a mistake in my judgment?"
Layla shook her head, not thinking her judgment was right.
She looked down at the swimsuit in her hands and asked again, "Don't you have any other swimsuits?"
Beatrice shook her head. "No, the resort only has this kind. Just wear a bathrobe over it. It's not like you're going to walk around in just the swimsuit, and besides, the hot spring pools are separated by gender."
Hearing this, Layla felt relieved and pulled back the curtain to enter the changing room next to them.
Beatrice also turned and went into the adjacent changing room.
After changing into the swimsuit, Layla put on the bathrobe right away. When she turned to look at Beatrice, Beatrice walked out boldly wearing just that sexy swimsuit.
Layla didn't think there was anything wrong with it.
It was just that she personally didn't like revealing swimsuits.
"Let's go."
