Chapter 189
Chapter 189
But what Mira was thinking was that she'd have to wash the sheets again tomorrow.
As she walked next door, she pulled out her phone to order a few new sets of sheets and duvet covers.
Looking at the delivery time, they should arrive tomorrow.
The weather hadn't been great lately—it was kind of damp, and they hadn't installed a dryer room here yet.
The sheets couldn't dry as fast as they got wet.
She'd better prepare a few extra sets.
When Layla came downstairs, her legs felt a bit weak. She held onto the railing as she slowly made her way down, gritting her teeth.
Because this time, Seth had given up the chance to get her pregnant.
After coming downstairs, Layla clenched her fists and couldn't help but look up at the second floor and curse. "Seth, you bastard!"
After cursing, Layla turned and walked away with a cold expression.
When she got back, she saw Mira and Orla sitting in the living room, chatting.
Seeing her, Mira instinctively glanced at the time, then yawned. "Mrs. Stanton, you're back. I'll head home now..."
Layla felt a bit embarrassed, but she nodded.
Orla looked at her with a smile and asked thoughtfully, "Want me to make you a late-night snack?"
Layla was about to refuse, but her stomach happened to growl. She had just used up quite a bit of energy.
She nodded, "Make me a plate of pasta. I'll go upstairs to check on Elijah first."
"Okay."
The next day, Layla dressed Elijah up to look especially bright and handsome.
When Marianne saw Elijah, she couldn't stop smiling, holding him, and kissing him over and over. "Elijah, did you miss me?"
Elijah was a particularly smart child. He hugged Marianne's neck and said sweetly. "I missed you, Grandma!"
"I missed you too."
Elizabeth, watching from the side, came over and asked, "Elijah, do you miss me too?"
Elijah looked at Elizabeth and nodded, "Yes!"
Layla smiled knowingly from the side, looking at Elijah with pride.
Marianne was also amused by Elijah's cleverness. "Our Elijah loves everyone, doesn't he?"
Elijah didn't quite understand that sentence, but seeing all the adults laughing, he laughed too.
After Elizabeth took Elijah, Marianne looked at Layla. "Layla, shall we go?"
Layla glanced toward next door and nodded. "Okay."
Marianne noticed and looked at the wall that had been opened up. "Is he coming too?"
Layla nodded.
Elizabeth immediately said with disgust, "Why bring him?"
This tone full of disgust left Layla at a loss for words, though she felt the same way.
"You're holding my son." Seth's calm voice came from next door. Everyone turned to look and saw that today he wasn't wearing a suit for once, but casual, fashionable clothes. His usually slicked-back hair was down, covering his usual sharpness and adding a touch of softness.
Layla looked for a few seconds before looking away. This version of Seth gave her a feeling of going back many years.
But she only felt a bit dazed—that heart-fluttering feeling for him was gone.
Elizabeth looked him up and down. "We can just take Elijah to the amusement park. What are you going for? Isn't your company busy? Or are you just free?"
Seth glanced at the disdainful Elizabeth and took Elijah directly from her arms. "No matter how busy I am, I need to make time to play with my son. I'm not like you."
Elizabeth found herself countered. "What are you saying? If I hadn't been busy back then, could you be enjoying the fruits of my labor now? Wasn't it me who built this empire day and night?"
Marianne frowned at Elizabeth and Seth, speaking up in warning. "If you keep arguing, neither of you is going. Layla and I can take Elijah to play."
Elizabeth quickly stood beside Marianne and said like she were tattling. "Marianne, talk to him!"
Marianne looked at him with disgust, giving him no face at all. "You shut up. The reason Seth isn't close to you is that you never took him out to play when he was little. Do you want Elijah to be distant from Seth?"
Elizabeth immediately fell silent, awkwardly touching her nose and saying nothing more.
Marianne looked at Layla with a smile. "Let's go, Layla."
Layla nodded. "Okay."
So Marianne and Layla got in the car first.
Leaving Elizabeth and Seth silently looking at each other.
Elizabeth glanced at Elijah in his arms. "How about letting me hold Elijah?"
Seth seemed to smirk, touching Elijah's head casually. "You don't even hold your grandson, why hold your great-grandson?"
When the group arrived at the amusement park, they found there weren't many people.
Layla was puzzled and took out her phone to check the date. Today was Saturday—why were there so few people?
She turned to look at Seth. Seth noticed her gaze and looked back. "I arranged it. Too many people are dangerous, but too few aren't fun either."
So yesterday, he had people buy up two-thirds of the amusement park tickets.
Layla couldn't argue with his reasoning.
She had also been worried about the amusement park being too crowded and unsafe.
Seth doing this actually made her feel he'd thought things through.
Elijah got incredibly excited when he saw all the rides.
For some of the gentler amusement park rides, Layla and Marianne would take turns accompanying Elijah.
This was the largest amusement park in Sovereign City, with tons of rides. To try everything would take a whole day.
And that was without waiting in lines.
Today's situation meant they didn't need to wait at all.
Perhaps because their appearance and temperament were too outstanding.
Quite a few people secretly took photos and videos.
Some even recognized them, but no one dared to approach and disturb them.
After all, they were from prominent families, business people, not celebrity public figures.
Seth took Elijah on the pirate ship. Elijah wasn't scared of these things—from below they could hear his clear laughter.
Layla handed water to Marianne. "Marianne, have some water."
The temperature in the morning and evening was just right, but it was noon now, and it was still a bit hot.
Marianne smiled and took the water, drinking a sip. Looking up at Seth and Elijah on the pirate ship, she sighed. "This is Seth's first time at a place like an amusement park."
Layla was surprised. "First time? But when he was little..."
Marianne shook her head. "Never once."
Layla fell silent. She looked up and couldn't help but ask, "Why?"
This amusement park had been here since she was little.
They'd just replaced a lot of equipment and added many new attractions.
But she clearly remembered that every Sunday, her parents would bring her here to play for the whole day.
When they had time, it was four times a month; when they didn't, at least once or twice a month.
The amusement park should be a place every child dreams of going.
Seth had never been here even once?
"As you've seen, Seth and his father aren't close. Seth's father was busy with his career when he was young, and neglected Seth a lot. I also went through postpartum depression for a while and wasn't very close to Seth either. Seth and I only gradually grew closer later, but there seems to always be a barrier in his heart. Even though we're his biological parents, we can't seem to cross it. His grandfather..."
"Seth was basically raised by his grandfather, so his personality is more like his grandfather's. By the time his grandfather passed away, he'd grown up and didn't seem to need his parents' company anymore. He was already completely independent. To be honest, as his parents, we weren't qualified. Looking back now, we owe him a lot emotionally."
