Chapter 182
Chapter 182
Layla shook her head, "It seems like it went away after I had Elijah. Now when I get my period, there's just a little discomfort, backache and bloating, but no pain anymore."
Mira turned to look at her with a smile, "I told Mr. Stanton back then that having a baby is an effective way to treat period pain. Though you got pregnant with Elijah pretty quickly."
Layla turned to look at her, "Treat period pain?"
Mira nodded, "Yeah, didn't Mr. Stanton want to have a baby back then to treat your period pain? Good thing it worked, otherwise you would have suffered so much."
Layla had always thought getting pregnant with Elijah was an accident.
Although she and Seth were in a reconciliation phase during that time, they actually didn't have many opportunities to be together.
But it was just that coincidental; she got pregnant with Elijah from those few times they had sex.
Turns out it wasn't an accident; he had planned for her to get pregnant.
But getting pregnant with Elijah went so smoothly, so why wasn't she pregnant this time?
"Having a baby is about fate. When it comes, it's the bond between mother and child. When it doesn't come, the timing isn't right. You can't rush it. You weren't expecting to get pregnant with Elijah either, right? That's what fate is."
After the medicine was ready, Mira poured it out and found there was quite a lot. "Is this bowl for tomorrow?"
Layla shook her head, "This bowl is for him."
Mira was stunned for a few seconds. "Mr. Stanton has to drink it too?"
"That's what the doctor said; it works faster if both people drink it together."
Mira couldn't help but laugh.
Layla was a bit curious, "What's wrong?"
Mira shook her head and said, "I've never seen Mr. Stanton drink medicine before."
"What's so unusual about that?" Layla didn't understand. Everyone got sick, wasn't taking medicine normal?
"Mr. Stanton just doesn't take medicine. If he really can't handle it, he calls a doctor to come give him an IV at home. I remember in the first year after you left..."
"One day, Mr. Stanton came home really late. We had all gone to bed. I didn't even know he was home, but I woke up when I heard noise outside. When I came out of my room, I saw him lying on the sofa, reeking of alcohol."
"I wanted to wake him up and get him to go to his room to rest, but when I got closer, I saw Mr. Stanton's face was pale, and one hand was clutching his stomach. He looked really uncomfortable. I was worried something was wrong, so I called Ryan..."
"After Ryan came, he took Mr. Stanton to the hospital. I was worried about Mr. Stanton, so I went along. After the examination, the doctor said Mr. Stanton had a bleeding stomach from drinking. Can you imagine how much you'd have to drink to get a bleeding stomach?"
"The doctor said Mr. Stanton's condition was serious, so he needed to be hospitalized for IV treatment. But the next day, Mr. Stanton insisted on leaving the hospital. Ryan and I couldn't talk him out of it, so I had to call Mrs. Marianne Stanton."
Mira kept chattering on, while Layla stared at the steaming bowl of medicine, listening quietly without much change in her expression.
"After Mrs. Marianne Stanton arrived and saw Mr. Stanton, she didn't say a word and just slapped him across the face. It really startled me."
"Mrs. Marianne Stanton's face looked pretty bad too. She pointed at Mr. Stanton's face and said..."
"Who are you putting on this devoted act for now? Who can even see it? Do you have to ruin your body like this? "
"Anyway, Mrs. Marianne Stanton was pretty angry at the time. Mr. Stanton didn't say anything. He obediently stayed in the hospital for three days before asking to be discharged. The doctor prescribed a lot of medicine to take home, but I never saw him take any of it. It probably all expired. We had no choice but to call a doctor to come give him IVs at home for several more days, about ten days total."
Layla didn't respond to this. But Mira turned to look at her and said, "Mrs. Stanton..."
Layla looked up at her.
Mira pressed her lips together, looking like she wanted to say something but hesitated.
Seeing this, Layla had to say, "Mira, just say what you want to say."
Mira nodded and said, "Alright, I'll say it then..."
"Mr. Stanton did change after you left, but I can't say whether the change was good or bad. Except for business trips, he basically comes home on time now. Every year on your birthday, he calls back and has me prepare a nice meal and order a cake. Same for your wedding anniversary. I don't know what happened between you and Mr. Stanton back then, but Mr. Stanton has really missed you these past two years."
Although Mira was hired by Seth, she had always been on Layla's side. After all, they had feelings for each other after spending several years together.
"You know I used to be on your side and had some issues with Mr. Stanton. I'm not speaking up for him, but I've seen it all these past two years. Mr. Stanton hasn't been happy at all. I can actually tell that Mr. Stanton has always had you in his heart."
Layla curved her lips slightly, "I think he's doing pretty well."
"How so?" Mira looked genuinely curious.
Layla was speechless for a moment, but she still said, "Didn't he get a girlfriend? I think he's doing fine."
"You mean Mr. Stanton and that actress?"
Layla didn't say anything, but Mira suddenly turned to look outside the kitchen.
Layla also glanced outside, following her gaze. "What's wrong?"
After making sure Seth wasn't outside, Mira said quietly, "Mrs. Stanton, don't you think it's a bit weird how public Mr. Stanton and that actress are?"
"What do you mean?" Layla asked.
Grace had said something similar.
Mira scratched her head, "I always feel like they're putting on an act."
"An act?"
Mira nodded, with an uncertain expression. "Yeah, an act. Don't you get that feeling?"
Layla didn't say anything. She hadn't thought about this, so of course she didn't have that feeling.
"Mr. Stanton and this actress suddenly got together, but during their relationship, Mr. Stanton has never stayed out all night. He still comes home to sleep. If they were really a couple in love, would they live separately?"
Layla thought of the news she'd seen before. It wasn't that she cared; she was just discussing this with Mira. "Weren't they photographed staying at the same hotel and leaving together the next day?"
But Mira had a look of exasperation on her face.
She leaned closer and said quietly, "The photos are real, but Mr. Stanton did come home."
Layla looked at her quietly without speaking.
"I remember a few times Mr. Stanton left before dawn, so I suspect Mr. Stanton secretly came back from the hotel in the middle of the night, then secretly went back early in the morning, which is why the media caught them."
Layla was speechless.
She thought this possibility was unlikely.
"Are you sure?"
Mira was about to say something more when Seth's low voice came from outside the door. "If you're so curious, why not just come ask me directly?"
Mira jumped in fright and quickly stepped back a few steps, clutching her chest as she looked at Seth.
Layla's heart also tightened inexplicably, though not from fear.
It was just that feeling of being caught by the person she was talking about behind their back.
Layla pressed her red lips together. Seeing him staring at her with a deep gaze, she couldn't help but look away.
Mira coughed awkwardly a few times, "I haven't hung up the clothes yet! Look at my brain..."
With that, Mira made an excuse and left directly.
Leaving Layla and Seth, neither of them speaking first.
