Chapter 181
Chapter 181
After saying that, he turned and walked away.
Elara in the car had a complicated expression, but Betty never once looked over, seeming not to care about them at all.
It wasn't until the car drove away that Elara rolled up the window.
The news of Betty and Adrian's marriage spread throughout the Wright Group.
Everyone was shocked, finding it unbelievable.
Soon, everyone also learned that the equity of the Wright Group had changed.
Betty wasn't actually the person holding the highest shares; the person holding the highest shares in the Wright Group was actually Adrian!
So did Betty and Adrian get married because of the shares?
Everyone was discussing who would really be in charge of the Wright Group from now on.
The Wright Group's PR department issued a statement.
It said that Betty and Adrian's positions had been completely switched.
Adrian became the person with the most authority in the Wright Group.
Betty didn't return to the company, but went back to Layla's house instead.
Adrian had already sent her the address of their new home, wanting her to move in tonight.
She went home to pack some clothes.
Layla sat quietly on the sofa holding Elijah, hearing her coming downstairs with her suitcase.
"Layla."
Layla turned to look but said nothing.
Betty gave her a gentle smile, "You must keep that thing safe. It's safest at the Montgomery Villa, I can't take it with me."
Layla pressed her red lips together tightly and nodded, "Got it."
Betty walked over, picked up Elijah, kissed him, then put him down. "I'm leaving."
Layla still said nothing. She understood Betty's feelings best.
When Layla married Seth and moved out of the Montgomery Villa, although there was worry on Betty's face, there was more blessing.
But this marriage between Betty and Adrian was just revenge, torture.
Just as Betty was about to leave, Layla stood up from the sofa holding Elijah.
"Betty."
Betty turned to look at her. The setting sun's afterglow was too bright, so Layla couldn't really see the expression on her face.
Betty definitely wouldn't be happy, wouldn't be full of expectations and hopes for the future like she herself had been back then.
"If you can't hold on anymore, you can come back anytime. The door will always be open for you. Elijah and I will always be here. As long as our family is together, the Montgomery family still exists."
These words were similar to what Betty had said to her before.
Betty was silent for a few seconds before nodding, "I'll remember that."
After Betty left, Layla couldn't help but tear up.
"Mommy, don't cry..."
Layla kissed Elijah's face, "I'm not crying, I just feel bad for Betty..."
Orla had no idea what had happened. She only found out from the news.
But seeing Betty and Layla's condition, she knew Betty's marriage wasn't voluntary.
So she called Elijah out and took him next door to play.
When Seth came home, he saw Layla sitting alone on the sofa in a daze.
He walked over and sat beside her, but she didn't notice. Layla was spacing out to this extent.
He didn't call out to her directly, but patted her shoulder to avoid startling her.
Only when Layla felt someone pat her did she react. She turned to glance at him.
After seeing him, she looked around the living room. "Where's Elijah?"
"Next door."
When he arrived, he'd heard Elijah's laughter in the yard.
Layla pressed her lips together. "Betty moved out."
Seth glanced at her and asked, "How about you move next door with Elijah?"
Layla immediately turned to look at him, her lips curving as she asked, "What are you thinking?"
Seth also curved his lips, "Wishful thinking."
Layla's somewhat melancholy and low mood was eased a bit by him, so she sat farther away from him.
Seth's arm rested on the sofa armrest, his posture casual and lazy. "Or I could move over here to keep you and Elijah company."
Layla's brow furrowed slightly. She coldly glanced at him from the corner of her eye and said flatly, "Just keep that thought to yourself; no need to say it out loud."
Seth curved his lips, "Let's go."
"Where?"
"Next door."
Layla frowned and was about to retort when she heard him say slowly, "Mira said we're eating next door tonight, it's already ready."
Layla had to swallow back what she was about to say. She still gave him a cold glance before getting up and leaving.
Seth looked at her, then added, "Did you put away what Betty gave you?"
Layla paused slightly, then turned to look at him, "I put it away. No one except me knows where it is."
Seth was just asking. He then got up and walked toward her.
"Good as long as it's put away safely."
Seth and Layla went to the villa next door together.
As soon as they reached the yard, they heard Elijah's cheerful laughter.
Hearing Elijah's laughter, Layla's heavy, oppressive mood finally got some relief.
Seth watched her face relax slightly, his Adam's apple rolling slightly, his eyes gradually darkening.
After having sex with Layla again, he seemed unable to control himself.
Layla was suddenly grabbed by the wrist. She turned to look at him, puzzled. "What do you want now?"
Seth stared at her with dark eyes, "Are you ovulating recently?"
She was stunned for a while before her lips moved, slowly nodding.
Because it was indeed her ovulation period recently, which was quite easy to calculate.
Seeing her dazed, Seth pulled her in front of him, his voice slightly deep. "So should we take medicine tonight or not?"
Layla certainly hadn't forgotten the main task. With Elijah's clear laughter in her ears, she only thought for a few seconds before nodding. "Take it."
Seth raised his eyebrows, "Okay."
Even though it was just a simple response, Layla could still hear the lightness in his tone. She shook off his hand and continued walking forward, not forgetting to instantly shatter his joy. "It's just completing a task, what's there to be happy about?"
Seth looked at her back and curved his lips.
After all, because of Adrian and Betty's situation, he and Layla hadn't been intimate for some days. Of course, he was happy.
After dinner, Orla took Elijah back, and Layla directly brought the fertility medicine to Seth's place next door.
Because every time she took medicine, Elijah would complain about the smell.
Mira wiped her hands with her apron while asking, "Mrs. Stanton, what medicine are you making?"
Layla said, "Fertility medicine to nourish the body."
As someone with relevant experience, Mira wasn't unaware of what Layla and Seth did upstairs every night.
They made such a commotion; she was the one who went up to clean up every time.
"Let me make the medicine. This medicine has quite a strong smell."
Layla nodded and let Mira make the medicine for her.
"Mrs. Stanton, do you still have your menstrual pain problem?"
