Chapter 180
Chapter 180
Layla gripped her phone tightly, but her mind was in complete chaos. Could this be possible? How could it be? But what if everything Seth said that day was true?
Because he liked her, because he had feelings for her, that was why he agreed to marry her, why he wanted to marry her.
Could Adrian feel the same way about Betty?
She couldn't see any sign that it was because he liked her. If anything, revenge seemed like a more reasonable explanation.
"Betty, are you gambling?" Layla asked.
Betty looked at her and nodded. "Yes, I'm gambling. But isn't life just one big gamble? It's just that this time, it's a high-stakes bet with everything I have."
Layla clenched her fists and lowered her head, closing her eyes. "Nothing I say will change your mind, will it?"
Betty shook her head. "Layla, I have supported all your decisions because I trust you. You need to trust me too."
Layla finally had nothing more to say. She turned her head to look at the contract. "But this thing about having children..."
"Whether I agree or not is up to me, but whether I actually have them is also up to me."
Layla's eyes flashed as she looked up at her.
Layla and Betty exchanged a glance and understood each other.
Indeed, a woman who didn't want to have children had many ways to prevent it.
"You need to protect yourself. If he dares to bully you again, tell me. At least don't let him hurt you like last time."
Betty patted her shoulder. "Don't worry, I know."
Outside the door, Elara watched two equally outstanding men walk out of the office.
Seth glanced at Adrian and said in a low voice, "Mr. Evans, speaking from experience, leave yourself a way out when doing things. Don't block all your paths."
Adrian raised an eyebrow. "Mr. Stanton, sounds like you have left himself a way out?"
"It's not the same situation."
Adrian took a drag of his cigarette and raised his eyebrows. "Good cigarette."
Seth glanced at him and placed a cigarette on the windowsill.
"Mr. Stanton, you must have also seen what Layla's father had hidden. I'd like to hear your thoughts."
Seth just smoked silently without speaking, because currently all the evidence proved Adrian was right. What else could he say?
Adrian raised an eyebrow at him. "What? You have nothing to say?"
Seth exhaled smoke and said quietly, "Seeing isn't always believing."
"If you're going to say that, Mr. Stanton, there's no point in talking."
Seth looked at him, flicked his cigarette ash, and said in a low voice, "Aren't you afraid it's all a misunderstanding and you won't be able to fix things in the end?"
"A misunderstanding?" Adrian stubbed out his cigarette, his eyes cold. "My mother left a suicide note before she killed herself. Care to guess what it said?"
Seth's hand paused, but he said nothing.
"Mr. Stanton, I've already been merciful."
In just the time it took to smoke a cigarette, Layla came out of the office.
She saw Seth and Adrian to the side and walked over.
When Seth saw her come out, he instinctively put out his cigarette and opened the ventilation window.
Adrian raised an eyebrow at this scene and laughed silently. "Mr. Stanton, when did you become so afraid of your wife?"
Seth just gave him a bland look without speaking.
Layla didn't even look at him, but fixed her gaze on Adrian. "Mr. Evans, I'm very sorry about what happened to your parents, but we firmly believe that my father absolutely did not kill your parents. We will get to the bottom of this."
Adrian put his hands in his pockets and raised an eyebrow at her. "Mrs. Stanton, blind confidence isn't a good thing."
Layla looked at him for a few seconds before turning to leave.
Seth glanced at Adrian and naturally followed along.
Elara nodded to Seth and Layla, and only after watching them enter the elevator did she turn and walk toward Adrian.
Adrian just glanced at her. "What do you want to say?"
Elara looked at him coldly. "Lunatic!"
"No new words?"
Elara took a book out of her bag and pushed it into his arms.
Adrian caught it and glanced at it. "What's this?"
"A novel."
Adrian raised an eyebrow. "You want me to read it?"
Elara stared at him intently. "Yes, take a good look at the male and female leads in there, and see what tragic ending awaits a love story that begins with revenge!"
Adrian dismissed it and threw the book directly into a nearby trash can, saying disdainfully, "What love?"
But Elara stepped forward, getting closer to him, staring at him relentlessly. "Then why do you have to marry her?"
"I'm not just going to marry her, I'm going to make her have my children."
Elara froze for a few seconds, then couldn't help grinding her teeth. "Adrian! I think you've really gone crazy. If you really do this, you'll definitely regret it!"
Adrian looked at her with indifferent eyes. "I remember the first time you saw me, you said you wanted to make the Wright Group pay."
"I..." Elara clenched her fists and closed her eyes. "My original intention hasn't changed, but she..."
"Elara, this world is survival of the fittest. There's no such thing as fairness. Her last name is Wright, so she should bear the responsibility for her parents' mistakes!"
Elara was quiet for a while before asking, "No matter what I say, it won't make a difference, will it?"
Adrian didn't speak; clearly, his mind was made up.
Elara lowered her head and laughed. "One last question. When did you come up with this plan?"
Adrian still didn't answer, but Elara continued, "Was it after you saw her, or did you already have this idea before?"
Adrian turned to look at her, his expression indifferent. "Does it matter?"
Elara looked at him quietly for several seconds before saying one sentence.
"You will regret this." After saying that, she turned and left.
Adrian stood there quietly for a long time.
Adrian and Betty did end up signing the prenuptial agreement.
So when they came out of the marriage registration office, Adrian played with the marriage certificate in his hand.
"Move out." He said.
Betty turned to look at him when she heard this, with no extra emotion on her face.
Whether pain or sadness, she had remained calm from beginning to end.
Adrian lifted her chin and leaned close to her. "Betty, I married you not to live separately. Move out tonight."
Betty looked at him and asked flatly, "Move where?"
"I'll send you the address in a bit. Also..." Adrian moved closer to her. Betty instinctively wanted to avoid him, but he gripped her chin tightly.
"I like women who are a bit more charming. I'm not asking you to be passionate when we have sex, but if you keep that cold face all the time, it's really off-putting."
Betty's expression remained calm. She said flatly. "I'm naturally reserved. If you like charming and passionate women, you can go find them."
Adrian narrowed his eyes, then laughed mockingly in her ear. "So generous. On our first day of marriage, you're already telling me to find other women?"
Betty also curved her lips slightly. "Yes."
Adrian wasn't angry. "If you're going to say that, I could have those women come over and teach you how to be a wife who pleases her husband."
Betty said nothing, her expression cold and hard.
Seeing her silence, Adrian instead stroked her face. "Betty, happy wedding day."
