Chapter 92 CHAPTER 92

Chapter 92 CHAPTER 92
Andrew’s POV

“You should go out there and do your job properly. After all, that’s why you are being paid,” I urge him.

“Yes, sir,” the policeman nods and turns to leave. He seems to recollect something as he turns back towards us, “Erm… I think the kidnapping might have been planned. The culprit was seen lurking around until Miss Aurora came with her child. None of the other kids were taken too. This is just a wild guess but it is a possibility that the culprit aimed for Miss Aurora’s child specifically. I have to ask, do you have bad blood with anyone?”

Aurora shakes her head, “I don’t think I’ve made enemies for myself. But then…”

Aurora glances at me and then keeps quiet. I know what she is thinking.

“Do you suspect anyone?” the policeman asks.

“No, not yet. I will give it a deeper thought,” she says.

“Alright. As for the culprit’s face, you wanted me to send it to you, didn’t you, sir?” the policeman asks.

“Please send it to me. I will do some digging on my own side,” I reply. The policeman nods and steps out. When I glance at Aurora now, she doesn’t keep eye contact with me and she looks paler. She turns to Callum instead.

“Can you leave us for a moment?” she asks him.

“But I should be here with you…” Callum insists.

“Please,” she tells him. Reluctantly, Callum exits the room and I get Aurora’s full attention. Even before she talks, I know what it is about. “The only person I know that might do this to me is your mother. She threatened to deal with me if I didn’t do her bidding.”

I sigh, having no words to say.

She continues to talk, “I don’t know why she would go that far. If she has business with me, she can confront me. Why does she have to go after my child? He is only two years old, Andrew. He must be very scared right now. He cries easily even when I’m with him. How do you think he will be when I’m not around?”

I take a deep breath.

“Listen Aurora, if my mother really did kidnap Jayden, I will get him back from her,” I say convincingly.

“Will you do that for me?” she asks in a low voice.

“I will,” I assure her.

“Will you let her get away with it?” she asks, studying my every move. “You know it well enough, Andrew. If she can kidnap a two-year old, she can do worse things.”

“It isn’t confirmed yet,” I interrupt. “It might not be my mother.”

Who would have thought a day would come when I will defend my mother? I guess even after all the fights we’ve had, she is still of the same blood as me. I guess I am still tied to her somehow.

“I don’t blame you. She is your mother after all,” she mutters and then she looks away. “But I’m very bothered. I don’t think I can entrust the safety of my child in the hands of the son of the person who kidnapped him.”

“But Aurora…” I interrupt but she doesn’t give me a chance.

“You can leave now, Andrew. Please call in Callum while you’re at it,” she tells me flatly. Her eyes betray no emotions. Even though she is cruel right now, I can’t blame her for it. She has no idea where her child is. Her actions are justified.

“Stay safe. I will find Jayden,” I promise her once again. I step out of the room and Callum is out there, arms akimbo. From the smile on his face, he must have been listening to our conversation. He ends up confirming it without any pressure.

“So your mother kidnapped the little boy,” he mutters. “Such vileness. I can’t relate. My mother would have offered him chocolate and some scholarships, yours abducts him. Very great difference.”

Having nothing to tell Callum, I begin to walk away.

“If it turns out to be your mother, you will be unable to cover up for her,” Callum tells me firmly. “If you won’t punish her, I will. That’s how I will protect Aurora.”

I continue to walk away, nonstop. I manage to get into my car and there, I realize I am overwhelmed. I do not cry nor do I smash things or hurt myself. I keep silent and try to breathe while I’m at it.

I call Anna’s phone and she picks up on the first ring.

“How may I help you, Andrew?” she asks.

“Where is my mother?” I ask. “I need to see her right away.”

Apparently, my mother was invited to some evening show as a guest. I drive there as fast as I can but it takes over forty minutes. By the time I get there, the show is on. I know I have to wait but I am very impatient. I walked to Anna who was backstage.

“What time does the show end?” I ask in haste.

“About an hour,” she replies gently. “Why are you here? I don’t think it is…”

I walk forward, not hesitant to ruin the show and bring it to a premature end. They can sue me if they want. However, Anna steps in front of me, blocking my path.

“What are you doing?” she asks, her voice deliberately low.

“I need to talk to my mother and I need to do it NOW,” I say firmly, not minding the people around us.

“Calm down,” Anna holds me back. “In seven minutes, they will have a ten-minute commercial break. You can see her then.”

“It’d better not exceed that time,” I mutter under my breath. Well, it doesn’t. Anna is the first to rush to my mother and she brings her to me. I am led to one of the rooms for privacy and Anna keeps watch at the door, preventing anyone from coming near.

“What is this about? How dare you invade a place I work so rudely?” she asks angrily.

I go straight to the point, “Where is Jayden?”
