Together Again.
Together Again.
"Why are we here?" I ask as I rub my sleep filled eyes and find out that Guzman has brought me to Ross's house.
He looks at me seriously.
"I can't endanger your life Mrs Elenora. Please! For the love of God and everything good, stay at home. There will be a police car in a few minutes that will watch over you and I have another security detail waiting inside."
I open my mouth to protest but he continues.
"I cannot under any circumstances take you to find Ross. Trust me, you will be safer here than anywhere else. Think about the babies."
I look at my bulging tummy and I can't help but think about how Guzman is right. I have to think of the twins.
"What about Ross?" I ask.
"He's going to be fine, there's already evidence linking Nick, Carter and his father to the crime. And with Nick's confession it even makes it all better. I already contacted the police. Now I have to leave."
"Okay. Just make sure you get Ross okay!"
"Yes, I will. Please go inside. I have to leave."
I nod my head as I walk into the house.
The door opens before I can even knock on it and I find a tall man in a dark suit that I've never seen before.
He must be the new security detail.
"Hello Ma'am."
"Hi. You must be Corbin. Can I borrow your phone?" I ask eager to call Kathy, Grandma and Julian.
They must all be worried sick.
He hands over his phone and gives me space. One of the maids that I vaguely recognise comes out. Mary or Marie I can't remember her name but I always leave her tips because she's a meticulous cleaner.
"Mrs Elenora! You're back."
"Thank you." I smile lightly.
"Can you please run me a bath?" I ask as I try and stretch my back.
My back is a little sore from the car rides.
"Right away ma'am"
I call Kathy first, but her number is unreachable so I call Grandma next.
"Hello?"
"Grandma Marcella! It's me Elenora!"
"Oh My God! Elenora!!! Is that you?"
She cries on the phone.
"Yes. Yes it's me. I'm back. I just got home."
"Really? Did they hurt you? Are you okay? We tried everything. We tried to get you back. Ross was so worried..."
"I'm back home now Grandma. Where's Kathy? I tried her phone..."
"Oh..."
Grandma Marcella pauses for a long time on the phone.
"Is everything fine? I'm coming to the apartment right now."
I announce.
"No no no! It's fine. We're just in the hospital. Kathy's having a little checkup, that's all."
My heart skips a beat at the thought of Kathy.
"I'm coming over now."
I say as I signal to the security detail.
"No! It's fine. It's nothing major. Just a few tests and all. She's doing okay."
"Why don't you have some rest and maybe tomorrow you can come back and check up on her."
She adds and I immediately go into full panic mode.
"Are you sure?"
"I'm sure Elenora. Now call your brother. He is worried sick about you."
"I will. I'll call you later. I need to shower."
I hand Corbin back his phone and go into my room.
Damn...
I can soak myself in the water for days. I haven't had a proper bath in days I think as I lay in the bath.
I wonder what is up with Ross. Has Guzman found him yet? I think as I stand up from the bathtub.
I ask Corbin to try Guzman's number but once again, it's unavailable.
Ross's phone too. I wonder if they smashed it like mine.
Or something worse.
What's taking so long?
I decide to sleep in Ross's room. I have missed the smell of him on my body. I'd very much like to have him near me.
Ross's room is dark and empty. I bury myself under the large covers and try to inhale the scent of Ross on the sheets but the sheets smell clean. They must have washed them.
I walk into his closet and pick out his pajama shirt and boxers after savouring the familiar scent of him on the clothes.
I miss him so much, I think as I lie on the bed.
I wonder if Kathy's fine, or if Ross is fine.
There have been so many things to worry about lately that I barely have time to worry about myself and the twins. I feel bad that at times like this It has to take something drastic and serious before I remember that I'm pregnant and expecting twins.
Ross slips into my mind again. I wonder how he is. Is he fine? Is he okay? Is he hurt?
Thoughts of him being hurt, killed or maimed runs through my head and I try not to think of the worst.
I fall into a troubled sleep.
I wake up to a hand around my belly.
I rub my sleepy eyes and turn slowly and find Ross lying in bed sleeping peacefully.
Tears blur my vision as I raise my hands up to cover my mouth.
He looks perfect. Simply perfect.
He looks so tired even while he sleeps and he smells like he's been wearing the same clothes for three days. His hair is unruly and he has a stubble.
Just six days and Ross Hamilton is already a complete mess.
I press my lips to his, eager to feel him on me.
Ross replies instantly, pulling me closer regardless of the fact that my huge belly is blocking him.
"I thought I'd never see you again." He whispered and I smile.
He uses a hand to wipe the tears streaking down my face.
"Me too."
"I love you Ross." I say quickly and he widens his eyes in surprise.
"I love you and I choose to love you everyday. Six days without you taught me that life is short. I want to make you know that you and our twins mean everything to me."
"Thank you for everything Ross."
"I love you too Elenora. The past six days without you, I blamed my self for dragging you into all this madness... All this pain..."
I raise a hand to Ross's lips.
"Don't talk like that. I don't care. All I care about is you and the twins, whatever we face, we'll face it together."
For the next two hours, I narrate my ordeal in the cabin with the guards, Nick and Carter. According to Guzman they were able to find the doctor who was kidnapped and forced to treat me, then threatened to be killed if she said a word. But she was so scared the moment she saw the police she spilled the beans anyways.
He also tells me what went down with his father.
Apparently he didn't get my message, because his phone was seized the minute he got there. He had a long talk with his father. Who revealed that he never truly believed Ross was his own son even after there was a DNA test proving that Ross was his son. Carter joined the meeting later and Ross gets to know that his father had orchestrated the whole thing all by himself with Carter being the minion. Carter isn't the true enemy after all. That was how deeply his father hated him. Because Ross reminded his father so much of his younger brother Logan Hamilton. And his mother had an affair with him, which only made his father hate him more.
They tried to get Ross to sign the documents, scaring him with pictures of me in the basement looking scared and tired. And pictures of me blindfolded and hurt. When did they take that? I have no recollection of my photos being taken.
"I'm just glad this nightmare is over."
"Yes. Thank God it is. Carter was shot when he tried to get away. He's in the ICU, we don't know if he'll make it. But my Dad and Nick are already detained."
"What's going to happen now?"
Ross shakes his head.
"We're trying to suppress the whole matter. My father being involved in all this will be a PR nightmare. So I got the company's publicist to handle it. We don't want any negativity for the company."
"That's good. That's good. I hope Carter's fine, I know he kidnapped me and all but I still don't want him hurt."
"He's going to be fine."
"I hope so."
Ross and I lie in bed for a few more moments till I remember Kathy and decide to call Grandma Marcella.
"Do you know Kathy's in the hospital?" I ask Ross as he takes off his shirt to take a shower.
Ross's face instantly changes, it can only confirm one thing, he knows.
"You know?"
"Yea, I would have told you but we had so much going on."
I pull away from him quickly.
"I'm calling Grandma Marcella..."
I announce but quickly remember I don't even have a phone anymore.
I borrow Ross's.
It takes her a long time before she picks the call.
"Hi Grandma Marcella! How are you doing?"
"Oh! I'm doing fine."
Her voice seems far from fine, in fact, she sounds tired and stressed out.
"Is Kathy good now?"
There's another long pause on the line.
I look at Ross's face.
He has a sombre expression on his face which has me thinking that there is something seriously going on with Kathy.
"They're still running some tests honey. Don't bother yourself, why don't you stay home and have some rest. I'll call you back."
The line goes dead. Just like that.
I turn to Ross who quickly looks away and busies himself with changing out of his clothes.
"Ross, what's happening with Kathy?"
"Elenora, you need to rest."
"No. I need to fucking know what the hell is going on!"
I snap and he flinches.
What are they all hiding? I ask myself as I watch him look away.
"Kathy had a heart attack three days after you were kidnapped."
My hands fly to my mouth.
I look at Ross for any hint that he might be lying but he's not!
He's not lying.
From the looks of his face, there's more.
"What else?"
"Her body... It's rejecting her heart."
