Comoros?
Comoros?
"Carter! What a pleasant surprise!" I reply with mocking cheerfulness as I force myself to smile the moment we arrive back into the basement.
Carter raises his eyebrow in surprise.
"You look different. Have they been treating you well?" He asks as he quickly glances at the two stoic masked men next to him.
I shrug, trying to show indifference.
"It certainly looks like it. I've been given this nice room with the comfortable bed and room service"
Carter nods. His eye twitches out of anger or frustration, I don't know. But I can tell that he is angry for some reason.
Maybe he expects me to be sobbing and crying to be let out. But no, I won't stoop so low to beg him
The phone still well hidden in my underwear is my little ray of sunshine. If I didn't have it earlier today, I would most likely be on my knees begging to be released.
"When I heard you were in labour, I came as fast as I could. But! It was a false alarm. Tell me, what were you thinking? That you could escape?"
I give Carter a look as I seat on my bed and join my thighs together, suddenly feeling self conscious in my sweatpants and see through shirt that I am wearing.
"It wasn't a plan. I really thought I was in labour."
Carter raises his eyebrow as his eyes travel down to my chest and belly.
"Really?"
"Yes. Really. Now when do I get to leave this five star hotel?"
I ask with sarcasm heavily dripping from my tone.
"Not yet honey. Not until your dear husband signs off his rights to the company and the island."
My throat suddenly goes dry.
I knew it. I knew that was what they wanted to do. They want to force Ross to sign away his rights to the island and company.
Carter cocks his head in amusement.
"Do you want to know what's going on with Ross?"
My heart skips a beat and I look up expectantly. Carter starts to laugh cruelly.
"Do you really want to know?"
"Is he okay?" I whisper in a small voice and Carter shrugs.
"Hnmmmm, I'll tell you later. You don't have to worry. Just a little more time and it'll be over."
Carter slowly rests a hand on my thigh and I push it away quickly.
He smiles slyly.
"I see the appeal. You're a feisty one."
"You're never getting the company. Or Ross's island."
Carter shrugs as he rolls his eyes.
"I'm kind of tired of people telling me what I can or can do. It's only a matter of days."
Carter stands up to leave.
"What about me? What are you going to do to me, when am I going back home?"
I ask with some of my confidence wavering.
Carter signals to one of the guards and he leaves.
"I'll leave all the explaining to Nick."
"Right now, I've got to go. Got a company to take and an island to own."
I watch Carter leave, too baffled to utter a word.
The tears come in an avalanche before I can even stop them.
I rest my hands on my face all in an attempt to cover up my tears.
I don't think I've ever felt so much pain or felt so depressed.
I'm still quietly sobbing when I hear the basement door being opened and I hastily wipe my tears away.
It's Nick. He's alone and he looks worried.
"How are you doing?"
"How do you think I'm doing ugh? My best friend kidnaps me and has been letting me rot down in here for six whole days!"
I scream at him and he raises a hand to tell me to calm down.
Suddenly he raises his eyebrows in confusion.
"How do you know how long you've been here?"
Shit!
Busted.
"Do you think I'm stupid? Of course I know how long I've been here." I retort back in anger hoping that Nick doesn't notice.
He doesn't.
"It'll soon be over soon. Once Ross signs away his rights, be rest assured that you'll be fine. Carter will let you go but you'll have to stay away for a long time so Ross won't try and do anything."
What the hell is going on?
What the fuck are they planning?
Leave where.
"Stay away? I thought I was going home after all this! What the hell are you talking about?"
Nick shakes his head strongly.
"No. You can't go home. Ross might try and take the issue to court and contest the validity of the contract. Carter wanted to take you out of the picture permanently but I managed to convince him. We can go somewhere far and remote. I was thinking of Comoros."
Good God!
Where the hell is that?
They had it all planned out. I have to get out of here before it's too late. If they're leading Ross on and pretending that after signing the documents he's going to get me back, I don't know if there's a way in hell that Ross will be able to change that especially since he'll never get me back since the plan on taking me far away.
This spells out a lot of doom.
They'll not only have the company and the island but they'll also have Ross in the palm of their hands.
They'll be able to do whatever they want with him.
"How long does he have to sign the documents?" I ask.
Nick shrugs.
"A day or two from now. If he doesn't we'll send him a picture of you dead. If he does, we'll tell him he'll see you in forty eight hours, which he won't frankly."
My heart skips a bit as goosebumps spread all over my skin. The mere thought of me being killed while pregnant, the mere thought of how my family or even Ross might feel if they see pictures that shows I'm dead.
Are they really going to kill me? Is Carter so desperate?
"Don't worry. We won't kill you. But trust me, if Ross doesn't sign those papers, we'll make it so damn convincing."
He whispers in my ear and I move away from him.
He's so disgusting!
I can't believe he was ever my friend.
"So even if he does sign the documents, he won't get me back?"
Nick shrugs.
"I'm afraid he won't." He says as he lays a hand on my shoulder.
I slap his hand away as fast as I can.
"Get your hands off me!"
I snap as I move away from him.
Nick looks seriously hurt.
"Don't be like this Elenora! You're going to have to start getting used to me. You will never see Ross Hamilton again"
He replies with a voice laced with scorn and malice.
I stand up to him burning with renewed anger.
"You're wrong! And Ross is going to get me out of here. And I'm going to watch you rot in prison for all you've done!"
Nick laughs loudly. It's a cruel laughter tainted with the tiniest hint of nervousness.
"Ross's never going to find you. As far as he's concerned, he thinks you're out of New York!"
I pause for a while and hear Nick speak. Apparently Nick and Carter have been trying to drop hints to suggest that I'm not in New York. Most especially with Nick making enquiries about plane tickets to New Jersey.
A false lead.
Ross might be following a false lead. And I hope it's not too late before he realises that.
God! I have to do something.
I have to get out of this fucking basement!
I calmly watch Nick as he watches me.
There's got to be something to do.
At least I have to leave this goddamn basement first.
"Can you take me outside?" I ask out of the blues.
Nick looks taken aback.
"You can't go outside." Nick replies and I shrug.
"Why? There are lots of guards around with guns and bullets. What can a harmless pregnant woman like me do?"
Nick doesn't look convinced. Yet.
"I've been holed up here for days. Days without seeing anywhere else but this godforsaken basement and the bathroom. I need to go outside!" I growl.
"Please." I add as an afterthought.
"Very well then. Let me talk to the guards upstairs. I'll take you outside."
Did that really just work?
It did.
I'm going outside!
I don't care how I'm going to do it but I have to get out of here.
I only hope that what I know and think in my heart is true....
Nick won't ever kill me. I just have to find an opportunity to slip out of here.
