Viola Hamilton

Viola Hamilton

The conversation with the Ross' Grandparents ends with Mr William walking out on me and Mrs Lydia following closely after her husband.

I feel so stupid for even bringing it up or asking them about it so soon.

I plan on messaging Ross to ask him to apologise on my behalf when Ms Lucia arrives to lead me to my room.

The room is perfect. Everything inside is so pristine and white that I'm awed by the simple yet elegant decor it has.
There is a medium sized bed with an elegant white wooden bed frame at the centre of the room with matching bedside drawers and a vanity mirror across it made with the same elegant wood design painted in white. There is a plain pastel pink silk rug on the polished hardwood floor. The walls are covered in a white wallpaper dotted with pretty baby pink flowers.

There is a small wooden bookshelf which contains a few books and a tall vase on top of it with a deep red velvet armchair beside it.

The curtains are white and they are open so I stare outside for a few minutes before there's a knock on my door.

"It's open!" I answer and Guzman comes in with his towering build taking over the entire door frame.

"I want to ask if everything is to your liking?"

"It's perfect. Thank you Guzman"

He nods the same time he raises up his phone.

"I want you to put me on speed dial. I will be sleeping next door. Just in case you need anything."

I almost raise my eyebrows in surprise. I don't think that it's necessary to put him on speed dial but if that's what he wants then I'm going to do it.

"Alright Guzman. Thank you." I answer dismissively as I look away and he leaves.

There is another persistent knock and I'm pretty sure it's Guzman again.

I sigh in frustration as I open the door.

"What is it again?" I snap as the door swings open and I find Mrs Lydia Whitby staring at me in surprise.

"I'm so sorry Mrs Lydia. I thought it was Guzman..." I try to explain as she smiles.

"Oh no! I understand. He's outside the door."

"Really?" I ask as I peer outside my room and yes, Guzman is actually standing guard outside my door.

"Guzman? What are you doing?"

"Mrs Elenora, I'm guarding your door."

"That's not really necessary right now" I reply with a nervous laugh as I look back and find Mrs Whitby patiently waiting.

"You can go back to your room"

Guzman shakes his head.

"My only job is to guard and protect you." He replies and I almost face palm myself.

Trust Ross to get a bodyguard just as over protective as he his.

"Fine then. Suit yourself" I reply as I slam the door shut.

"Mrs Lydia, I'm so sorry for what happened earlier. It was just a silly idea..."

I start explaining but she cuts me off with a raised hand.

"It's okay, my husband gets like that sometimes, it had nothing to do with naming the baby Viola"

"But I am sorry, Ross and I can always change our minds and find another name"

Mrs Lydia smiles sadly, she looks so lost in thought that I believe mentioning their daughter's name back in the living room must have brought back painful memories for her.

"Can we talk?"

She suddenly asks and I nod my head.

"Sure, I'd love to" I eager reply.

"Well, let's go talk while we enjoy a cup of coffee"

"Maybe a cup of tea for me" I answer as we both leave the room.

"Oh yes! Definitely, how can I forget"

Back in the living room where Lydia and I both sit in opposite armchairs, she sips a cup of coffee taken with sugar and milk while I take plain chamomile tea.

"Things haven't been easy for Ross since his mother died. I know you might see him as some spoiled rich boy, but he worked hard to get his place in the company"

I nod slowly and wait silently for Mrs Lydia to continue.

"I must admit, I had some fault in this."

My eyebrows crease in confusion, Ross didn't mention his grandparents involvement in preventing him from being CEO, in fact from what he told me, I think they tried to help him.

"How so?"

I ask setting my cup of chamomile tea back on the saucer.

Mrs Lydia signs.

"Back then, Viola never wanted to marry him. She never wanted to marry Charles Hamilton. But we had to force her to do it. The marriage was based on some sort of business alliance. Charles Hamilton was a prominent new and upcoming businessman. And as usual, he sought help from us to be his investors. Our daughter Viola was young, wild and unmarried. Well, we thought we were making the right choice..."

Her voice goes softer by the minute till she finally takes a long pause.

It is obvious that Ross's grandparents regret marrying Viola off to Charles. As Ross has once said it, his parents' union was not one borne out of love. And it affects him in more ways than he cares to admit especially since he had to get into a union that wasn't out of love.

"Viola and Charles did not have a happy relationship, at all. Charles even hated her more when he suspected she was having an affair with his younger brother. But I know my Viola didn't do such."

"Wait! Ross has an uncle?"

"Yes! Yes! He did. Logan Hamilton. Oh! He and Ross used to be so close. But now we barely hear from him. He disappeared right after Viola's burial"

"He sends postcards once in a few years though" she adds with a shrug.

"That's strange Mrs Lydia" I comment and she shrugs.

"Strange indeed. Charles and his brother never did have the best relationship. They were always at loggerheads when it came to the company, Viola was always the middleman. It wasn't long before Charles bought his brother Logan out of the company and Logan left."

"Well, do you know where he is?"

"No idea. He's probably gallivanting around the world without a care in the world."

"How is Ross's relationship with his father? Has it always been so strained?"

"Well, I don't know. All I know is that Charles Hamilton has always been at war with his wife and son. Ross always had a rebellious streak, which naturally angered Charles. Their relationship became even more worse when his mother died and he spent a whole year drinking and partying around the globe."

"Ross must have been angry at him. Losing his mother and watching his father remarry so quickly"

Mrs Lydia's face hardens at my statement.

"I believe it was Charles's infidelity that finally drove my Viola into the grave! He married that hateful woman Chloe Cox so quickly it was as if he was waiting for my poor daughter to die! Ross was furious with him! We were furious with him!"

Mrs Lydia's voice raised higher and higher with every word.

"On top of all that, he tried to make his stepson CEO of Milton Corps when my poor grandson had to work for the position. And then he tried to claim the island that is Ross's birthright by some stupid loophole."

She scoffs as she takes another huge gulp of her coffee. It's clear that the subject has already gotten her all worked up.

I try to calm her down.

"Why would he want to take away his son's birthright?"

Mrs Lydia shakes her head.

"Oh My dear, I don't have the slightest clue. I don't know why we ever forced Viola to marry that scumbag. She would have been a lot happier in her life without him. "

"This must all be so hard for you, I'm sure Ross told you why we got married..."

Mrs Lydia nods her head as she takes my hand in hers.

"Yes, he married you because of the pregnancy. And I was so scared that it was going to be a repeat of what happened with his mother and his father, but everyday I'm convinced that it's different. Ross loves you and I'm sure you love him very much too."

My face slowly spreads into a smile, I've been so scared that Ross's grandparents wouldn't accept me because they think Ross only married me because I got pregnant but now I'm happy they're going to be seeing things a lot differently, even if it's one of them.

"I'm happy Ross found you. He's been lonely for a long time. Even when he was dating that Sophia girl."

As she mentions Sophia's name she shudders a little and I can't help but chuckle.

"I don't think I've ever met anyone so vain and self centered! I don't know how they ever lasted so long."

"I'm glad I found Ross too Mrs Whitby, he's been a wonderful addition to my life lately."

"Oh really?" A voice calls from behind, my heart practically skips a beat as I turn to meet Ross smiling at me.

A smile spreads on my face as I watch him approach us while Ms Lucia takes her leave.

"Ross! What are you doing here?"

I ask as I stand up and he stretches his arms out wide to give me a hug.

"Well, I couldn't stay away from you. I just had to see how you're doing"

"With you here, she's not going to get any rest that's for sure!" Mrs Lydia says as I make way for her to hug her grandson.

"Oh! I won't stress her too much! I just had to see her. I miss her already" Ross replies with a look that makes me pull him close to me.

Ross leans in for a kiss and our lips are about to meet when the voice of Mr William Whitby stops us.

"None of that here!" He says sternly and I jump a little.

He comes down from the stairs slowly and we all watch him cautiously as he approaches.

"Just kidding!" he laughs as he pats Ross on the back.

"Oh Willy!" Mrs Lydia chastises as she gives him a stern look which later turns into a smile.

"You two lovebirds just can't stay away can you?" Mr William asks again as Ross and I sit close to each other in the nearest chair.

"I missed my babies. All three of them" he replies with a smacking kiss to my forehead.

"Awwn! We missed daddy too" I reply as I rub my tummy.

"Lydia, I think Viola would be a very pretty name for the baby girl. What do you think?"

Mr William asks with a mischievous glint in his eyes and Lydia shrugs.

"I think so too. What do you both think? Viola Hamilton?"

Ross and I look at each other briefly, Ross is smiling at me while I stare at him with a look of disbelief before turning to his grandparents.

"Oh My God! Thank so much!" I practically squeal as I jump up and hug William and Lydia simultaneously.

"Careful dear! You're welcome anyways. We'd be honoured to have our great grandchild named Viola."

"Thank you so much" Ross says in all sincerity.

Ross looks so happy and peaceful, his grandparents are radiating with happiness.

Everything is good. At least for now we can all forget about our problems and live in the moment.

I turn to look at Ross, the love of my life and I find him already staring at me.
