Chapter 80 Chapter 80
Chapter 80 Chapter 80
Vamica's POV
The door was pulled open as I pushed down on the knob, Ethan’s worried face filling my vision. “I was about to go looking for you. Where did you go?” He asked, his eyes scanning my whole body.
My lips ticked up in a slight smile at his tone. For all of his fault he was a really caring person. “I went to check up on my grandma” I replied, stepping into the house.
“I made dinner already; do you want some tea? To heat up your body” He offered, his bluish-green eyes peering at me.
I tried considering the offer he had made to me. The thought of us living together like this felt…weird. I shook the thought away, replying to his question.
“I would like some tea, thank you” I settled into the sofa in the living room. The image of what had happened there the last time flashed across my mind.
“Do you want to eat there or on the dining table?” He asked his voice echoing from the kitchen. “I would eat at the dining” I stood up from the sofa, shuffling to the dining room.
Silence filled the air has I dug into the meal he prepared for me. “I…I want to apologize once again. I shouldn’t have made a move on you at that point in time” he said, his voice solemn.
I swallowed, raising my head to meet his gaze. “I would always appreciate you as a friend but I can’t…we can’t…” I trailed off, my gazing dropping once more to my meal.
I didn’t want to break his heart. He is a good friend to me and the least I could do for him was let him down slowly.
“I…I understand what you are trying to say. I would respect your decision” His shoulders slumped forward slightly before he chugged down the cup of tea he had before him.
The night ended with both of us parting to our room, a quiet almost silent goodnight shared between us. I collapsed into the bed, the soft material of the bed bouncing me back.
“Should I just leave his house?” I asked myself, not liking how we had parted that evening. The image of the wolf that had almost ate me came flashing into my mind.
I shivered, my hands clutching the comforter around me harder. “I would leave once everything is settled” I decided, I standing up to check if the door was locked.
A howl was the last thing I heard before I slept off, for some reason, the howl reminded me of Knight.
“Do you think I should go to work today?” I asked Ethan, breaking the self-imposed silence, we had going.
“I think you should leave his office if you want to keep working in the firm” He let out, something hard projecting with his voice.
I thought about it for a minute. The idea was good; I would get to keep my job and Knight wouldn’t be…
I shouldn’t be thinking of anything that would be favourable to him. I never hated having this condition like I did right now.
If I were a normal healthy person I would have had a little cushion fund for myself. I would be able to get a job in another company.
I wouldn’t be stuck in one spot. Despite how good Ethan’s idea was, I felt…reluctant to do so. “I would do just that” I decided, it was time to take control of the situation.
I wasn’t going to give up on my livelihood just because of what they did. “We would branch by my apartment, I need to pick up my clothes” I said to Ethan, determination etched onto my face.
I freshened up quickly, conscious of the time. I was going to keep working at the firm but I wouldn’t let the chairman get away with what he did.
I would make him pay by the law. The first thing I had to do was gather evidence. What better way was there to do that except diving back into the muddy waters where I first found the clues linking my parents and the chairman.
I stepped out of the room, confident in my plan. As Ethan sped down the lane that led to my apartment, doubt crept in about my plan.
What if Knight decided he was going to keep him locked up n his office? It was something I knew he could do.
The thought made me flush for some reason. “Do you need me to wind down the window for you?” Ethan asked, his eyes taking a quick glance at me.
“No, I am good” I replied, clearing my throat. Soon enough, Ethan pulled up in front of my apartment. “I would not take long” I told him as I stepped out of the car.
I pushed open the door to my apartment, my eyes checking the space for any unusual movement. My hand flickered the switch on.
Illumination flooded my apartment, making me wince slightly. The light seemed to shine even brighter than usual.
I hurried into my room, the space smelling slightly musty due to me not been there for a while. I searched through my wardrobe for clothes to wear.
I selected a few dresses and some pants and shirts into a carry-on bag I had inside my wardrobe. I changed into a dress suitable for work, slipping my flats on.
I was about to step out of my room when a creak sounded from the front door. I froze for a bit before I concluded it could only be Ethan coming inside to check on me.
“Freckled girl with a broken heart, the throne calls for you” My breath caught in my chest, my eyes going wide at the haunting words.
The voice sounded familiar. The image of the woman who had told me something similar at the hospital flashed across my mind then.
How did she enter without Ethan seeing her? And most importantly, what does she want from me?
