In the car driving home, while I drove, he sat beside me in the front seat.
We talked and laughed. Chatting about various things from his school to the aspects of his life I was not well versed in.
“ so.. what about dad?”
He asked the dressed question again, and once more my heart sank.
I sighed and smirked.
Careful to watch the road at the U-turn.
Just round the massive bill-board.
Soon he exclaimed.
“ Mum, Look that's Degeant, you work there don't you?”
I caught a stare at the Billboard just in time, before we drove past it, and I smiled.
“ He is a fighter ain't he?” I murmured unknowingly, and Elgreen chuckled
“ Nah… it was just an advert for the All sports festival. Nothing about fighting.”
I smiled and nodded my head, “ oh wow. They added the name of my company, I love it.”
He seconded, “ yes mum, me too.
I love it.”
I sighed, and drove on.
Successfully escaping the earlier question about his father.
Or so I thought, cause almost immediately, he turned to me again.
“ You didn't reply me, when I asked about dad earlier.”
There was a brief moment of silence, as I drove into the parking lot.
“ Son, here is one thing that I will assure you.
Your dad is a great man, and when God wills, you will get to see him.
And if God does not will, so be it.”.
He stood still for a while, while I walked away, but soon I came back to him
“ Elgreen. Do you think I purposely want to get you starved of your father?” I asked, and he shrugged.
“ I have no idea, and it feels you actually do.”
I paused and tapped his shoulder.
“ Allright Elgreen.
You will meet your father. I will make sure of that.”
I stopped to his height, and gave him a kiss on the forehead.
“ Let's go now”
——
The atmosphere at the office today was very friendly and lovely.
There was smiles everywhere and everyone seems to be in good spirits.
And quite frankly, I also felt the same.
“ Good morning miss Brooks”
Tyler greeted as he came out to welcome me.
He also seemed to be in high spirits.
“ Yeah good morning, how was the night?”
He smiled, and nodded.
“ Quite good, even better than the past few nights.
Trust you're refreshed now.
You seem energized unlike yesterday.”
I smirked, “ oh really you think? Well, you're not wrong my dear, I am indeed feeling good.”
We chatted as we walked to the office when I could not help but ask.
“ But do you also feel like everyone is happy today? Or am I the only one feeling that way?”
He paused and squinted his eyes at me.
“ Hmm. Of course we all are.
Days into weeks of steady labour and boom just last night, we finally..”
Just then Jonathan came in.
“ Hey Kayla!”
He rushed over to me, smiles on his face, and I forced a smile, sincerely oblivious of the reason behind the smile.
“ I saw you coming in, I didn't think you would come to work today, but yeah here you are, you did.”
I shrugged, “ what choice do i have?”
We both laughed, and I ushered him into the office.
Tyler excused himself into his seat, while Jonathan and I walked in, and I shut the door behind us.
Just as I closed the door, it seems to click.
Oh my days! Now I actually understand why!
The Billboard in the night.
It had the company on it.
He had finally won the bid and the strategy had finally played out perfectly.
I nodded slowly.
He took his seat, quite unprofessionally.
His leg on my desk, but I didn't care to mind as of course we were in a celebratory mood.
“ So.. uhm I think you have once again proved why you were the best choice for your father to hand over the reins of his empire”
I smiled at him while I walked to my seat.
He smirked and got up to dust his blazer.
Then spread his hands.
“ Of course.”
I laughed, and he smiled.
There was soon a knock on the door.
He paused and stared at me.
“ Excuse me, but I think my order is here.”
He left to the door, and after an exchange with someone, he turned to me with a bottle of whiskey and two glass cups.
“ Celebration time?”
Me eyes widened in surprise.
“ Allright, if you will.”
He smiled and poured a glass for me, and one for himself.
“ Cheers?”
I nodded and obliged, “ cheers”
“ So talk to me, I was thinking all this while.
A lot of struggle and tribulations all this while, and now there is a reason to be glad finally.
Why don't we make it quite memorable?”
He asked and I squinted my eyes at him with a smile.
I took a sip of the liquor.
“ Hmm”
“ And what do you mean by that exact?”
I asked, and he shrugged.
“ It's simple, we make it one to remember, and probably use to opportunity to finally burry the past totally.
You know, finally close that chapter, and move on with the current flow.”
I tried to talk, but he interrupted.
“ Wait, I know you have moved in, or so you claim.
But then I know that is not exactly what this is.
I can tell, the times I cannot but feel guilty, your reaction at times, it's obvious ain't it?
We can't go on like this.
We really need to find a solution to this tension. I can't live on with it. “
He paused, and I smirked.
“ So.. what am I to do about all of that?”
He seemed disappointed, and he sighed.
“ I only need your consent for us to let go of the past.
Look to be precise, I am proposing that we go out on a date. And probably we get to sort things out properly.
I mean, we have accomplished a lot of lately together, and I really think that should say enough about our chemistry.”
I smiled as he spoke, and I nodded slowly.
“ Hmm, all right then I'll see to that.”
He chuckled, and shook his head. “ Nah… that's not what we're doing here girl.
None of that.
I'm saying will you be free on the weekend?”
His confidence was top notch, and to be fair, impressive.
To be honest, considering the tension between Elgreen and I, I really took this as a sign from the heavens.
He really needed to get to know his father.
Even though I would have wanted it to come as a result of way harder effort from Jonathan's side.
“ Yeah Friday to be exact. I will be free.”
He smiled, and raised his glass.
