“Kayla!” 

I heard his voice call out to me just before I could get in the car and almost immediately I freezed, and turned to his voice. 

He had an expression of hope on his face. Close to a smile, but not one. 

“ Hi Joe” 

I managed to smile at him as I turned to face him. 

“Yeah where you headed to? It's not close time yet is it?” 

He paused then continued, “ oh.. I almost forgot you are the boss here. 
My bad” 

He chuckled, and I smiled. 

“ So uhm.. what Is the news? You seem quite energized unlike the past few days.” 

He smiled and nodded. 

“ Yeah indeed. We are finally getting somewhere.” 

He walked closer to me, and smoothened my edges, before taking his seat in the car. 

The driver's seat I had opened to get in earlier. 

“ Oh my days I feel relieved. Comfy seat you got here.” 

He commended, tapping the leather seat. 

“ Nice interiors too.” 

I nodded my head, and forced a smile. 

“ Yh absolutely, or maybe.” 

He chuckled and shrugged.

“ well, we now have a shot at something finally. 

We now placed a bid that was successfully passed. 

This time, we actually did work, rather than usually relying on reputation. 

Degeant is a fans favourite, making waves at the moment, and yeah after a few propagandas and what not, we were able to spark the public's interest in the brand.”

I could gradually feel myself zoning out as he spoke. 

I did not want to listen to any of this, especially at this time. 

The thought of Elgreen had clouded my mind. 

I really needed to find a solution for him. 

I had to either let him know his father, who had no idea of his existence up till now, or I had to actually relieve myself of a lot of my duties in order to be in full control of him. 

It was a tough period and a tough decision. 

And surprisingly enough, the cause of it all stood right before me. 

“ Kayla!” 

He called out, yanking me out of my thoughts. 

“ Hey Kayla. You look lost of lately.

What's going on with you? 

Talk to me is there something wrong at work?” 

He asked and I shook my head, “ absolutely not, nothing is wrong, I guess so just need a lot of time to actually rest and get over the world stress you know. 

Nothing that serious is wrong trust me.” 

He paused and stared at me from head to toe. 

“ You sure?” 

I nodded my head, and he smirked. 

“Allright then, see ya later. 

Take quality time off, and call me whenever there is trouble or anything at all okay?. 

I'll check in steadily.” 

He patted my shoulder, and stood up from the seat. 

I nodded and got in Closing the door.

He still stood watching me, and it got me even more vexed. 

I turned to him, “ what?!” 

In a rather harsh tone, and his eyes lit with shock.

“ Oh,” 

I could bear to take another at his face. 

In as much as he was the very origin of my troubles, he had done just enough to prove his repentance. 

The only cause for my hesitation was the threat of Miriam. As she still was a force in his life in some way or the other. 

I just shook my head, and turned to him. 

“ Hey Joe, Goodluck pal. I'm sorry for raising my voice, I was just like I said earlier, frustrated. 

And I'm really sorry for even thinking of taking out a bit of it on you.”

I snuggled, and waved at him. 

He patted my back immediately. 

“ Yeah I know, it's fine though, take your time off. 

Matter of fact, as long as you want. 

Whatever help you need in your part, you tell me I have just the right tools for a fix.”

I nodded my head, and winded the windows up. 

He soon smiled and waved. 

My glass was tinted, and I knew it wouldn't matter if I waved or not, but still waved at him. 

I took a deep breath, and hit the road. 

I needed to head to the hospital to check on Elgreen. 

He was a few hours to be discharged from the hospital, and I wanted to atleast have some time with him in the car from the hospital. 

For the first time in a long time, I actually felt the motherly love and connection quite deeply. 

And at this point, if the presence of Miriam meant I wouldn't let him know his father, then I would be ready to actually stay with him and relieve myself of a lot of duties. 

He was my priority now. 

I had gotten into the room where he lay, and stood at a corner. 

I took out a towel, and wiped sweat off my face. 

I wasn't sure if he would be any happy to receive me. 

A nurse soon came in. “ Hey miss brook, you're here already?.”

I smiled at her and nodded. 

“ Yes nurse, I'm here” 

She stretched her hand for a handshake and I obliged. 

“ He has done so well, you can take over in a few hours.” 

I smiled, “ thank you for doing your job perfectly” 

She chuckled and pressed her palms together. 

“ My pleasure.”
She smiled and left the room. 

“Hey mama, you came?!” 

I paused, and turned to his direction, walking slowly to him. 

He spread his hands for a hug, and I couldn't hold back the years from flowing. 

“ My love! How would I not come? Now that I have realised all of my mistakes of the past? How will I not come to take you home?” 

He smiled, and patted my back.

“ It's allright mum, I know you have work to do all the time. 

It's just that sometimes I can't help realising that Elsa is not my mother. 

I have a mother, just that she never gets enough time for me. It's really saddening you know.” 

He explained and I smiled. 

“ Yes my love, I know that, and I have decided to step up.

I will now be actively involved in all things pertaining to you my love. 

I will be with you henceforth okay?” 

He nodded his head and hugged me tightly. 

I could feel relief in my body, as my nervous system seemed to come to an ease.

Soon we detached from the hug, and he lay on the bed staring at me, and me at him. 

Truth be told, I actually was frustrated by his presence in my life, and the sufferings I had to pass through earlier on with him. 

But now, I could understand that he had no role to play in how my life had been. 

All he ever did was be born by the collaborative effort of I and his father. 

In an unplanned circumstance.
