Chapter 100 Xander’s POV
Chapter Hundred
Xander’s POV
I stepped forward. “She’s not going anywhere with you, Daniel.”
Bella tried to dissuade him. “Don't worry about me, Daniel. Just go… I'll be fine.”
He didn't look convinced.
“Are you sure?” he said, eyeing me suspiciously.
She nodded weakly. “I'll be fine, I promise. I'll call you later.”
Seeing them acting all caring in front of me almost made me go crazy with rage.
I clenched my fists and stormed out of the office before either Bella or Daniel could say another word.
Why is everyone I trust betraying me like this?
And my mum? How could she do that to her? Her own grandchild? This type of hate transcends family ties, she hated Bella even at the cost of her grandchild.
I needed to pay Elena Knight a visit.
I reached into my pocket and dialed her number. She picked up on the second ring.
“Hello son,” she drawled over the phone.
“Are you in the house?” I cut in rudely.
“Of course Xander dear, what's the…”
I hung up without giving her a chance to finish her sentence.
I jumped into my car and slammed my foot on the brake, the tires screeched against the pavement as I sped off.
I arrived at her mansion faster than I realized.
Elena Knight wore a two-piece bikini and was sitting outside the pool. The layout of the pool was beyond impressive, the type people spend millions on.
Her silver streaked mane caught the sunlight as she sat tall, imposing and elegant.
She was sipping a cocktail with an exotic name, when I stormed through the doors fuming.
“Why mother?” I spat at her face.
“Why what, son?”
I looked at her for a few seconds before asking, “Promise you'll tell me the truth. Nothing but the truth mother.”
“Always son, when have I ever lied to you.”
“Why didn't you tell me about Bella and Noah?”
She was taken aback and her eyes bulged open.
“Whatever she told you is a lie Xander.”
I smashed one of the glass cups and yelled, “Don't fucking lie to me mom. You knew. You knew about Noah. And you let it happen. You forced her to lie. You kept me away from my own son.”
Her expression flickered for a moment. “Xander… you don’t understand…”
“Oh, I understand perfectly.” I cut her off. “You found her with that pregnancy test. You forced her into hiding. You threatened her life. And all for what? Your pride? Your control?”
Panic coursed through her. “Okay, okay. I'll tell you what happened.”
“Make it quick.” My voice thundered.
“You see son, I've always told you she was not good for you son, I've always told you that. You can't have babies with that nobody.”
My chest heaved heavily from anger, “What? What has that got to do with you threatening the mother of my child and my baby?”
“When you put it that way son, it sounds terrible. But I promise I only did it for your best interests.”
“What do you know about my interests? Who gave you the right to decide on my relationships? How dare you mother?”
“Oh cut the crap, Xander.” She cut in sharply. “You were too blind, too in love with that girl to know what's good for you and the family. I will not have you embarrass the family with that poor girl.”
“So, the baby? You couldn't even accept her for the sake of my son?”
“Don't call that bastard your son. How are you sure he's yours?”
“I did a DNA test, he's mine.”
“Whatever. You could have another baby with someone else. I've always wanted you to marry Anna, she's a very fine, elegant young lady, from a good family too.”
She looked at me pleadingly, “Why don't you settle down with Anna and get more children, for my sake, okay? I'm sorry about the bastard and it's pauper mom.”
“Too late, you already lost that privilege.” I replied coldly.
I made my way towards the door when her voice rang out behind me.
“Promise me son, that you won't do anything stupid.”
I ignored her and left.
I sat behind the wheel and banged my head multiple times on it. How could I have been so stupid to miss this?.
Bella suffered because of me, I should have been there for her but I failed to protect her.
No wonder she left, she had no one else. She suffered alone all those years with Noah, my son.
My knuckles tightened around the wheels till they became white. How could my mother do that do Bella and Noah? How could she keep this away from me after all these years.
She never planned on telling me. If I did not find out myself, I never would have known.
Who knows what time I would have found out. Maybe when my son was eighteen? He might have believed that I abandoned him or continued to think that Daniel was his father.
Tears welled up in my eyes, I wiped them with my sleeves. It's not time to be weak, I have a son now.
I drove the car slowly down the road, I needed time to process and wrap my head around this situation.
I opened my front door and paused at the door, it suddenly hit me on how clean and lonely my house was.
Everything was squeaky clean, no dust in sight. I imagined Noah jumping all around with his toys scattered all over the place.
I imagined Bella welcoming me with open arms at the doorstep.
I've been lonely for too long, it's time I got a family to call my own.
I got inside and went straight to the shower to wash away the stress of the day. It's been a long day.
I got dressed and sank into my bed immediately. I turned over and looked at the part of the bed where Bella should have been.
I reached over, brushing my hand across the empty side of the bed, it struck me at how cold it was.
